About

I have used Alvin Smithson's services for over five years as a piano tuner, teacher and performer. I am always impressed with his skills, artistry and professionalism. Alvin first came to tune my 100-years old Steinway after it had been neglected for a number of years. He first examined the instrument, diagnosed what needed to be done and then proceeded with his expert tuning. Immediately after he was done and started playing, I was amazed at how good the piano sounded. Alvin explained that with a piano that hasn't been tuned or played in so many years, it will take some time to achieve its best form and sound for which it was built. A short time after, my wife started taking piano lessons from Alvin and as she started gaining proficiency in playing under his guidance, the piano itself gained a rich pleasing sound. Alvin paid close attention and adjusted notes or did a full tuning whenever needed. He also took the time to clean the strings and do minor technical adjustments. When a string needed to be replaced, Alvin recommended a technician from a highly reputable company. Overall, we owe it to his expertise to have the wonderful old piano do what it was built for by the Steinway masters. I should also mention that I heard some great musicians at venues where Alvin is the regular piano tuner. People who visit our house and hear our piano, or play it themselves, always compliment its sound. But the best comes when Alvin himself sits at the keyboard, whether at our house, at a social function or performing in the theater, it's such a joy to hear him play some great classical pieces as well as his own wonderful compositions. He is truly a very talented, sensitive and highly knowledgeable artist. And such a pleasant person, too. My wife and I feel fortunate to have Alvin give us the best piano sound to enjoy live music in our home. I would recommend him to anyone as piano tuner, teacher and overall musician.

About

I started taking voice lessons for the first time at the age of 53 from Sam. My only other musical experiences were singing in a church choir as a teenager and taking piano lessons for a couple of years when I was in middle school. I chose Sam because of his willingness to accept different types of voices and his terrific and positive reviews. I have never questioned my choice. When I started with Sam, my voice was weak. I could basically carry a tune, but definitely not in a public setting and definitely not one that was outside of the middle-of-the-road range. I took lessons so I could feel more confident in my singing ability and improve my voice. Sam started by teaching me how to breath while singing. I’ll admit that it was hard work and not the most exciting, but it has made a huge difference in my ability. My range has been broadened and my voice is much stronger than when I began 8 months ago. During that time we have worked on music theory, rhythm, harmony, different types of music, etc. The key for me is that I have always found Sam very patient and encouraging yet at the same time mindful of the technical expertise needed to improve one’s voice. I highly recommend him for someone like me and definitely for anyone who has a more natural musical talent!

So, I took my first voice lesson this past weekend at the age of 29 with Tina Boosahda.. Nervous is just one of the words I felt before I got there. I wasn't sure what to expect coming into a new experience like this... well let me say, I loved it! I felt comfortable. It was nice having someone go step by step with me so that I understand the fundamentals of voice training and singing. We laughed, we hmmmmed, and we laughed some more. I told my family and my friends of my great experience and they too are interested to know more about her. Thank you Tina for such a great time and I can't wait for my next lesson. Guys--- I'm not kidding, she's great! Take a chance. You won't regret it!

I am so glad I found 4Singers Voice Lessons with Tracy Hamlin. I was in need of some vocal coaching for an audition, with limited time to prepare. About

My daughter has been with Dr. Oster for 8 years. Dr. Oster is a very unique teacher and caters to each child's strengths and weaknesses through her teaching. My daughter is naturally shy and not very expressive emotionally, but she has become more expressive and confident through playing piano under the guidance of Dr. Oster. Dr. Oster also provides very rigorous and intense pieces for her students to learn, and gives them the necessary tools to do so more independently as they grow older, but all the while with her counseling. Many people are constantly amazed by my daughter's piano playing due to difficulty of these pieces. The perseverance and work ethic necessary to master these pieces is astounding and are invaluable life lessons that my daughter has acquired through learning from Dr. Oster. Dr. Oster truly wants her students to excel in all aspects of life. We are very thankful to have her in our lives.

I've been taking vocal lessons with Karen through Skype, and despite the distance (Silver Spring US- Mumbai), it has been devoid of disturbances and quite enjoyable. After evaluating my voice and musical tastes, she has helped me improve my vocal tone and power in a surprisingly short time. She has been very helpful, evaluating the recordings i send her by mail. Would highly recommend her as a teacher. Thanks! :)

About

Ms. Alexandra, has helped me tremendously to improve my voice skills. Most of my singing experience came from school or church choir where I always sang the Alto – lower note – parts. My goal for taking voice lessons is to improve the high notes. Ms. Alexandra’s teachings has worked my voice to reach notes that I previously had difficulty and sounded soft or raspy (over-strain). Her voice exercises have corrected the posture of my mouth, interior and exterior, and relaxed the muscles surrounding the voice in order to open-up the voice for clarity and volume. Every voice lesson with her has been a stepping stone to reaching my goal. I can see the troubled areas have improved and become easier to reach. I have even seen my lower-notes sounding clearer, better, rounder, and colorful. Ms. Alexandra identified my strengths, for example, the lower-notes and coloratura. She then expanded on those strengths by taking them further, working that area to sound even better and also to keep me motivated to reach my other goal because if I had only practiced on my goal, I would eventually ended-up believing I was not good enough to reach those high notes; In order for me to reach those notes, I had to be confident, relaxed, and not have my mind preoccupied on reaching that goal. Ms. Alexandra knew this already and kept the lessons varied and interesting. Through her teachings I have come to understand how my voice functions, and identify the shape of my mouth in order to identify different levels of sound. She is very patient and understanding and has great ability expand on your current knowledge, and nurture a beginning singer, like me.

I highly recommend taking vocal lessons from Rob. Working with Rob was fantastic. I wasn't sure about my vocals, so I started taking lessons from him not too long ago. He goes into great detail of what vocal exercises to practice, and how to do them. He'll also answer any question you have about vocals. Even if you can't meet him in person to do the lesson, he does offer online lessons. I intend to take more lessons from Rob in the future.
