Nick Martin and his American Dream Company crew members have painted the entire interior of my home and recently our new garage doors. Nick provided me with a thorough consultation and estimate of services requested. He assisted me with the selection of paint and color schemes. Thanks to his expertise my home room colors flow throughout , creating a peaceful and put together look and feeling. Nick is a knowledgable and experienced painter and business owner. His work and the work performed by his crew members is of the highest quality. Excellent! Nick is a genuine , reliable, and trustworthy individual. He and his crew were always kind and respectful. I never had a worry while the work was being done in my home. When in need of additional work done in my home Nick is the only person I will call. My recommendation ....FIVE STARS!

Everything from start to finish was handled top notch! We received several quotes and the quality product that Premier Door had to offer was well worth the price. Tyler came out and checked out our current situation and we gave him a deposit to order the door. It was originally a 2 week time frame for delivery and installation which was what we had expected after researching garage doors. About a week into that window, the manufacture notified Premier of a delay and they contacted us right a way. It unfortunately pushed our installation date out a week, but they promised to get out and install it asap and set the date for 1 week later. Tyler called the evening before our scheduled date to confirm the installation. The guys were on time and worked diligently to remove our old door (which had fallen off the tracks and was a piled up mess when they arrived), the old hardware and opener. They answered all of our questions and set up the new opener for us. It looks fantastic, from the inside and out! Top notch job guys, five star for sure!

John was extremely through in giving me the various options with my project. And he was very helpful in guiding me when I wished to purchase materials myself. The craftsmen ship displayed in my shed repair is amazing. Before it; my floor slanted, it was rotted, and I couldn't close the doors. That is all fixed, and John also made sure to elimate the underlying issue that caused it. I would recommend his services to anyone.

Mr. Morris completed 4 jobs for me covering a three month period. 1) Involved rennovating my enclosed back porch by putting in a ceiling, removed/replaced surrounding screens & door, removed/repaired wood frames, installed electric wiring & put in a ceiling fan/light for first time, painting of woodframes, sealing bottom base bricks, and fixing gutters. Excellent job. 2) Installed gutters on garage for rain off, re-roofed garage & installed ventilation at top of roof. Well done! 3) Installed gutter brackets, repaired damage wood, repaired & fixed front house gutters for rain off. 4) Re-balancing of garage beams and adjusted tracks of garage door to prevent jamming or inconsistency of door opening or closing. All jobs were pre-appraised, with an estimate delivered within several days. Mr. Morris was very professional , detailed & courteous in explaining each job, cost, and timeframes. He exceeded all my expectations, in quality, timeliness, & proficiency, completing each job ahead of schedule. He cleaned up each area after completion of job very well. Partial monies paid up front and balance of bill not due until I did a walk thru & stated satisfaction of work done. I have told Mr. Morris that I will be retaining his phone number in my directory for future home repairs and have no concerns about referring him to my neighbors because of his professionalism and the quality of his work.

Right from the get-go, this was a great company to work with! Quick response to initial request, easily scheduled hours convenient for me, too! The garage door repair job was completed correctly, within the time expected, for the cost estimated.... that's amazing in itself. But the icing on the cake was the very kind, friendly, professional and knowledgeable technician who came to our home. He updated me on parts and costs and showed me what needed to be repaired. If the rest of the company is anything like him, they're going to go far.

United garage door pros was exactly the kind of service I was looking for when I search on thumbtack -- a smaller business that pays attention to details and to the customer. The cost of the work was very reasonable and Sam was very willing to spend more time with me to answer all my questions and explain my options. My spring and cables were all shot and the panels on damaged on the door -- we had him replace the spring and cables, but Sam worked with me on whether or not it'd be possible to get by without replacing the whole door (because of the messed up panels). In the end, by his suggestion, I spent about $20 to pick up 2 garage door struts, installed them relatively quickly and now the door opens and closes as smooth as butter. Before working with Sam, I was already somewhat resigned to needing to replace the whole door, so I'm definitely glad to have worked with him and ended up with the results I did for as small a price as I had to pay.

Everything went as promised. They were timely and did a very nice job. Needed a tear off and re-shingle on my garage. They were available and in contact all the way. I have found a few nails in my driveway, but other wise no complaints. Without the nails I would have rated the job as excellent.

We had Richard of Horn Construction come over for an estimate. Our job was to mud/tape/prime and paint drywall that we had installed in our garage. Not only was he prompt, but his estimate was very fair. We were impressed that he started the very next Monday on our job. Richard and his team are real pro's. He was able to completely hide our seams and finished the drywall like we never would have been able to. If you're looking for a contractor that has a fine attention to detail, I would not hesitate to recommend Horn Construction.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.
