Bridget cleaned and painted a condo we rent out. She was very professional, and worked well with the tenant and I. It can be awkward having work done with tenants in the condo, but Bridget worked with everyone's schedules. She suggested colors and made the place look better than it ever has before. We were really impressed with her work. We felt her fees were very reasonable as well. I would hire her again in a second!

I had an amazing experience with ScriptInteriors. My designer responded quickly, listened to all my concerns and created a bedroom that was perfect. I already have recommended to several friends. Before I used Scriptinteriors I was always overwhelmed and eager to move. I had no idea what I was doing decorating nor selecting proper colors and my house just felt like a mess. Once we redecorated with the help of ScriptInteriors, I finally feel at home. The house feels so cozy and its just beautiful.

When we decided to have our master bathroom remodeled, we met with four uninspiring designers before happening onto the Labra Design+Build web site. We met with the owner, Rufino Labra, who really listened to our design wishes and personal taste, and within a few days came up with two impressive design options (in 3D!) We were excited about both options and after talking further with Rufino knew for sure that we wanted him and his company to handle our remodel. Throughout both the planning and remodeling, Rufino was patient, accommodating, and always accessible getting back to us the same or next day with answers to our questions, concerns and change requests. He kept us apprised of the progress letting us know when task were scheduled to start and be completed, plus he always made sure that we were completely happy with every decision. When Rufino and/ or his crew needed to work late, they were always respectful of our plans. Rufino and his crew took great care of our home protecting our floors and minimizing tracking. At the end of each day drop cloths were removed and everything was kept as clean and organized as possible. All debris was hauled away the same day (no dumpster on our property and no rubbish in our yard or garage!) We absolutely could not be more pleased with the results, from the more functional configuration, the large curbless shower and custom cabinets, to all the materials installed and the soothing paint colors Rufino selected to blend with our monochromatic style. The workmanship is outstanding (first rate). Now, our master bathroom is beautiful with lots of storage, and we love, love, love everything about it! Thanks to Rufino and his amazing crew, especially Abe who worked on our project daily, the whole process was a pleasant experience and the remodel was started and completed within the timeline constraints.

I cannot say enough positive things about Slavica! She truly listened to our wants and needs and turned our outdated family room into our favorite room of the house. We get so many compliments on the room from the style of furniture to the color of the accent pieces. The room truly has so much personality and suits all of our purposes for a growing family of four. We never felt pressured by Slavica and can't wait to have her back to help us design and decorate our office!!

I hired Lori to assist me in coordinating materials in my kitchen renovation. I gave her a few samples of what I liked and she coordinated everything from the paint color, flooring and counter tops, down to the fabrics for the window treatments. She has an amazing eye for mixing color and texture. My kitchen turned out so beautiful! After the kitchen was complete, I contracted her to help me finish decorating my living room. I did the room partially and could not seem to complete the project. She helped tie all of the loose ends together with just the right paint color and accessories! With her help of a new furniture layout, the room now looks like it's right out of the catalog!

"An Incredible Design Perspective, that is truly outside the box. Rob Sapp is described by many as a genius. More than just a compliment, in his case this is a description earned and deserved. Rob is an exceptionally intelligent and creative force who is constantly thinking forward. He generates energy, enthusiasm and vision for an existing or project in concept. Rob has an unsurpassed work ethic and the innate ability to take a project from the initial stages of design and creation, where he effectively communicates, motivates, and inspires his team, through to the completion of a successful finished product. Above all else Rob Sapp is PRINCIPLED in his approach to design. He is one of only a handful of people I have ever worked with that has the ability to see all the way through to the final product from the initial draft. He definitely dreams in color. His imagination, aptitude, and accomplished perspective as a practical visionary, brings balance to the cutting edge. I have watched Rob begin with only bits and pieces of ideas sketched on a napkin, and see the steps of progression that will bring life to that initial concept, on budget, on time, polished and delivered. From concept to creation, from design to production, there is not one person I know who is more equipped to produce a successful and desirable result every single time. He just gets it. Genius is often overused and misplaced these days, but if ever there was a person who qualified for the term, it would definitely be Rob Sapp." - Paul Swaim (Allied Van Lines/Corporate Relocation, Executive Accounts - 35 yrs.)

Joey LaFata & her staff do a fabulous job of making my listings look great. I am always impressed by the huge change they create in making any house look homey and welcoming. Their professional handling of every aspect of the process from consultation, cleaning, repairing and staging a property makes me happy to refer them to my clients. They have staged numerous properties for me and my clients and have always made a positive difference that helped obtain numerous showings and got fair offers usually within the first 30 days. I know how important staging is especially in the current market. The first time I met Joey for a consultation I hired her to stage a property that had been on the market for 6 months - after she worked her magic on the staging the house sold the first week for full price! They have done a great job for me every time and I wouldn't even think of trying to sell a house without her making it look it's best. Thanks Joey. You are the Best!

What a great experience and so much fun. Leen was fantastic to work with, the way she coordinated the colors, textures and the furniture together for the look and feel we desired was spot on. Our Master Bedroom looked better than we could have imagined. She found ways to help us reduce the cost of the project by picking out the key pieces we needed to complete the room without compromising the coastal theme we desired. In the end it looks fantastic and was within budget. We look forward to working with her again on future projects.

Woods Color and Design Consulting provided expertise while transforming my home into a work of art. WCDC consulted with my family on color matching, design details, and an overall custom interior painting of the entire home. Their patience was the best we've ever encountered front start to finish of the project. The colors flow throughout the home from room to room without any colors clashing.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
