I am very content to find Kate as my math tutor. She's very organized and knows how to explain the math problems thoroughly, even though it took me like 5 times to understand the question or equation :( (I'm not a math person). She prepared me for my math placement test in college and I was able to advance at a higher math class. I am very happy with my results. Kate was simply great and very patient with me. I truly recommend her if you are struggling in math.

Jeff was by far a great teacher, mentor and friend to my son. My son completed his course and I know that Jeff was instrumental in helping him do so. Jeff was always on time and his greatest desire was to see my son be successful. I know that tutoring is his passion along with his magic. He shared with me on the first day that he used a magic trick to lighten up the mood; he made my son smile. I will use Jeff again in the coming school year to help my son.

Yelena was an excellent tutor for my son who needed help preparing for high school Algebra. She able to teach him what he needed to learn to be prepared for high school math. She also was able to assess his current skill level and adapt her lessons to fit his needs. She is very professional and able to adjust her teaching style to make sure my son learned everything at his own pace. All her previous teaching experience was very evident and helpful during the tutoring sessions. I'm recommending her to everyone I know who might need math tutoring!

    About

I offer teaching and tutoring in a variety of disciplines in the humanities. I can accommodate a range of ages and abilities, from school-age children up to the skill level of an advanced undergraduate. I will work with you to arrange the time, date, and place of your choice, traveling to meet your needs. I will do private tutoring or semiprivate/group instruction. My goal is to encourage the development of necessary critical thinking, linguistic, and communication skills cultivated through studies in the humanities. Today, these fields are undervalued in the face of a growing commitment to STEM pathways. While these fields are lucrative and practical, any promising technical student will be able to work interdisciplinarily with a variety of intellectual methods. My style of instruction and academic specializations might be ideal for the K-12 student who needs a little extra time with reading and writing or an adult/continuing education student who just wants to brush up literacy skills for an interview or a college application. Fields of study include English language, French language, English literature, French literature, reading and writing skills, proofreading/paper and essay help, social studies, language arts, history, poetry, new media, media studies, film studies

Are you having trouble with math? I am an Ann Arbor based math tutor who enjoys helping people reach their goals.

    About

I have been a private math tutor for nearly 10 years. I approach math from a different viewpoint than most teachers. I learned math because I wanted to understand how it applies to be an engineer. Though my current career has taken me into another direction, I still enjoy sharing my knowledge and love of math with students who want to learn. Normally, I am able to explain most concepts in multiple ways in case a student is not able to understand one way or another. My best range of math is from Algebra I through Pre-Calculus, though I do work with students in courses before or after. I am a coach at a local high school, so I have a background check run on me every year. As for meeting, I usually meet at the client's home, provided there are little to no distractions. If there will be too many distractions, I recommend meeting at a local library. For home schooled students, I am also available earlier in the day.

Is your child struggling to complete school work and catch up with materials they've missed in precious grades? Private tutoring is often the answer the these questions. I provide science and math tutoring to students in elementary, middle school and high school students and college students taking intro level math and physics courses. I offer competitive rates and lesson packages. I am a a full time teacher with a masters degree who enjoys seeing students succeed in what they do. About

Hi! I'm offering tutoring sessions for elementary and high school students. Since graduating from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2011, I've been traveling, playing music, a care worker, teaching piano lessons, tutoring, and trying to do good work in general! As a tutor, my subjects of focus are math and science. These are the subjects I was best at in school, and these are the subjects that schools seem to have the most trouble teaching. I believe this is because schools are mostly one person talking to a large group of people that all learn in different ways! Many students get left behind, and teachers don't have time to work one-on-one with all of them. One-on-one time with a student can make a world of difference. I have a car and can drive to the student's home. If you read this and think we'd be a good match, send me an e-mail and we can get to know each other a bit. I can put you in contact with references, etc. Thank you! I have a GPA of 3.8. I got 5's on AP Calculus BC and both Physics AP tests, scored in the 99th percentile in ACT math and in the 93rd percentile in ACT science.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs.
