About

My 11 year old son has been taking piano lessons with Carolyn for almost 3 years. Carolyn is an absolutely a wonderful teacher. She hand picks all the music so it suits the student's level and interests. It is very motivating to my son because he has a learning disability with how he processes information. Carolyn helps him understand how to read music by playing music computer games and board games which keeps him interested in playing the piano. Since taking piano lessons with Carolyn my son's confidence has soared and he can't wait to attend his next lesson. Carolyn has a unique gift for teaching children how to play the piano and I would recommend her as a piano teacher to anyone. She is the best!!

About

I took lessons from Cheri for eight years, and in that time she gave to me a great understanding of music. At first, Cheri taught me how to play the guitar; I learned on both classical and electric guitars as we worked through a diverse set of repertoire. Cheri is well versed in a plethora of musical styles as I learned folk songs, standard rock-n-roll tunes, blues pieces, and a few Beatles hits too. In addition to working repertoire, Cheri encouraged students to dabble in soloing techniques and to think outside of the music written on the page. The techniques I learned during this time gave me a great starting point from which I could build upon my knowledge and interest in music. In time, I came to take piano lessons from Cheri, and if I thought her guitar lessons were great, the piano lessons far exceeded those. In six years Cheri taught me piano by building my skill set, refining techniques, and giving me an understanding of music theory. Cheri has extensive knowledge in Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Jazz, and Modern music styles, of which I enjoyed Jazz the most. We worked through standards and crafted my own sound on the classics. In addition to teaching music, Cheri has experience with Apple GarageBand, and in my time as her student we recorded a few songs as she guided me in the process of producing tracks on this software. As a college freshman, I am currently pursuing a degree in vocal music education at the University of Minnesota. Without years of private lessons from Cheri Sykes I would not be making it through the School of Music with as much ease as has been the case thus far. I rely on my piano skills and knowledge in music theory every single day in my classes. Had I not taken lessons from Cheri Sykes I wouldn’t have the confidence to pursue a career in music education, and I definitely would not be where I am today.

About

9 1/2 years and two children ago, my husband gave me piano lessons for Christmas. Sara was an awesome teacher for a beginner adult student. She understood that I had family priorities, but really wanted to learn. Slowly, ever so slowly, I was able to play basic songs! However, over time, and with added attention needed for my small ones, my lessons began to suffer. Soon I was no longer able to practice, so I gave my lesson time to my kiddos. For the last 4 (maybe 5?) years she has been teaching my daughters. The girls have VERY different approaches to music, and Sara has been able to keep them both interested & engaged with personalized music choices, reward challenges and just by being REALLY REALLY good with kids. She makes them feel at ease, easily redirects wandering brains, and makes it super fun. They end up learning & getting better every week (even though they don't practice as much as they should)! She has even been teaching a short lesson to our 5yo, who is eager to be like her big sisters! This past spring they played in their first piano recital. It boosted their confidence & made them want to try different, more difficult pieces. I cannot recommend Sara Diedrich & St Paul Music Lessons enough! Smart, talented, GREAT with kids, THIS is the place for easy going but thorough and thoughtful lessons that will have you looking forward to learning! Thanks, Sara, for being you!!!

About

Greg is great. My boys all enjoy having him as a teacher and he is good at working with all of them. All 3 take piano lessons, but Greg has also instructed them in guitar and sax. Greg is flexible when we need to make changes to our schedule and we absolutely love the convenience of him coming to our house for lessons.
