Jerrie is a wonderful pet sitter. We have used her numerous times to stay at our house and also come in the middle of the day to walk our dog. She writes down how your pet is doing in her care and takes good care of your house. My dog really likes her too!!! I feel comfortable having her stay in our house while we are out of town. I highly recommend Jerrie for your pet sitting needs!

Working with Rita has been a phenomenal experience. She is professional, knowledgeable, but more than that she is an excellent instructor. You explain what you need and she has a resolution. Rita makes training easy. She makes sure you know how to work with your dog. Her hands on training gives you the knowledge and confidence to continue training. Both you and your dog will benefit from working with Rita. It’s reward based and fun. Don’t worry if you’re not getting it Rita is a phone call away. Her time with you is not just a schedule and we’ll talk about it on your next visit. She is there in between to guide you. I can not say enough about this remarkable woman and Canine Revival.

Debra often took care of our dog and cat when we were away from home. She would not only ensure that they were properly feed and watered, but she made sure the litter box was cleaned on a regular basis. Debra is also invaluable to observing abnormal symptoms in animals. A couple of times she notified us of an ailment in our pets and we were able to expedite treatment. She is also a very caring person who a trust. She has no malice towards anyone. If you have a chance to hire her, you will not regret it.

We love having Wag Sniff and Stroll dog walking services for our 10 year old dog. Very reliable, responsible, nurturing and flexible. Makes the day fun and active for our dog, who would otherwise be very bored at home all day.

Amanda did a great job with our training session for our 1 year old Cockapoo Leon. In the past, we had spent our money on group training classes, which were informative, but lack the the type of hands on one on one training that we really needed. However, with Amanda, we were given the tools tailored to us to succeed with training our dog. We felt like Amanda brought a breath of fresh air to dog training, because implored us to be a little more instinctual with our approach in training Leon. Most importantly, we felt she trained us on HOW to train our dog. We worked on recall, loose leash walking, seizing jumping on guests that come over and also becoming more flexible with Leon diet(Our dog eats whenever he wants). We have made strides in all of the above in 1 week.

Lori is amazing with my dog Winnie. She offered a board and train that went very well. Since then, my dog has been there for daycare most every day. She is definitely a dog person and knows how to talk to them.

Ali from At Home Pet Care came into our home twice a day to care for our dog and two cats. She had to give medicine to the dog, feed the animals, walk the dog and bring in the mail. She left notes every day, left the kitchen quite clean and our animals were in great shape when we returned. One of the cats is pretty skittish and previous times, we have heard that the pet sitter hasn't seen much of him. Ali was able to entice Bilbo out of hiding and even pet him - I was surprised and grateful that she took the time to work at that. We are thrilled with At Home Pet Care's service and recommend them highly!

Paw Print is a fantastic business. I often tell people about the wonderful care they have given my dogs. They take their time on visits, giving each dog a good walk and personal attention. They communicate with a note each day, and contact me if they have a question or concern. My dogs look forward to their visit from Paw Prints, and it takes the pressure off of me to have them available when I need them.

Roxanne is amazing! She has worked so diligently with our family and our puppy's needs. Any problem we were having, she had a way to address it. The best part is, it works!! She has a miracle solution for every instance. Roxanne is always willing to listen and do what is best for the family and the dog. Her techniques are easy to follow and always positive! She has reassured our family that we are making progress and are doing what is best for our puppy. We have seen wonderful changes in our puppy and are excited to continue to work with Roxanne. :)

Sarah has been walking my dog, Angus, over the past 2 years. My dog has always been very shy and nervous and Sarah has always been patient with him and he warmed up to her very quickly! When we run into her on our walks, he always runs right up and wants to say hi to her! She is extremely responsive and reliable when I need her to dog sit or take Angus on additional walks. Her prices are extremely reasonable, and she does such a great job. She always sends photos from the daily walk and I can tell she genuinely cares about the dogs. I would recommend her services to anyone in need of a walker!

Michelle has been there for our family since the day we met her over a year ago. Our family has since grown to 2 dogs and she has taken on the additional responsibility of a new puppy like a champ! She obviously loves dogs and they love her. She consistently sends us updates after each visit and we also enjoy the photos of our little "kiddos" that she sends. It's so nice to have someone we trust to take care of our dogs, as they are our family. Michelle not only ensures they are taken care of, she gives them love like they are family to her as well. We are lucky to have her!

My elderly cat, Phoebe, was diagnosed with kidney disease just 2 weeks before I was scheduled to be out of town with my entire family for a week. Her behavior was changing, she had just started needing bi-weekly subcutaneous fluids, and she was touch-and-go in the days leading up to my trip, so I was very stressed out about leaving her. I took Mary Jo up on her offer to stay the night with Phoebe each night while I was gone and also check in on her each afternoon. Mary Jo came by a couple of days before my departure and took in the volumes upon volumes of information I had for her about everything there was to know about Phoebe and her many needs. She took notes to make sure she remembered everything. :) While I was gone, Mary Jo sent me texts each night to update me on how things were going, which allowed me to relax and enjoy my time away with my family. And Phoebe did very well while I was gone! Even though she's a self-described dog person, Mary Jo is a conscientious and skilled animal lover who is totally comfortable with caring for a special-needs kitty like mine. I definitely recommend her to anybody who needs to find someone they can trust with their beloved little critters while they travel.

I heard about Cameron through friends. I was very emotional wondering if I may need to give up my Great Pyrenees. I could not get him to obey commands. He had run away and I almost lost him. I took him to see Cameron. Cameron listened to my issues and totally understood. He was very caring and knowledgeable about my situation. He taught me how to treat my dog in a way that made him want to please me. His technique is kind, firm and effective. He really knows and understands dogs. I highly recommend Cameron for anyone who truly wants the best for their pets.

Sammi always does a great job taking care of the huge menagerie that we have. She's flexible and is easy to work with (and puts up with all the changing and long-winded instructions I leave). The animals all love her. She leaves great notes about how things went while we were gone. We've been using her for years and love her.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

        • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
        • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
        • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
        • What are your different walk routes?
        • When will you pick up and drop off?
        • How will we communicate?
        • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
        • What’s your cancellation policy?
        • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
        • How and how often do I pay you?
        • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
