  • Ashburn Guitar Studio

    (4 reviews)

AGS (Ashburn Guitar Studio) offers quality instruction in the classical guitar: My students are usually referred by Loudoun County Public Schools' middle and high school guitar teachers and they receive four to five, 30-minute private classical guitar lessons each month for $30 per lesson. The classical technique requires students to play with nails (no plectrum) on a nylon-string guitar. The standard repertoire includes the music of notable composers such as Sor, Aguado, Carulli, Carcassi, Giuliani etc. Quarterly studio recitals are held that feature AGS students and local professionals.

Steve's methods, developed over the course of more than 40 years of guitar experience, make learning to play the guitar (or improving upon your guitar playing skills) a fun and exciting journey. Years of study on his own and with some of the country's most talented and skilled players/educators (Berklee College of Music, California State University Los Angeles and Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University) have given him a clear sense of what works and what doesn't. Having taught hundreds of students on both sides of the country, he has developed a sensitivity to the individual needs of his students and is able to plot a course based upon those unique needs and skill levels.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Jarrod Stephenson

I teach students of all ages, and all genres of music. My students also get back what they put into it. The more they practice, the faster they grow as players and as musicians.

Jarrod Stephenson had been honored with a Greensburg Guitar Scholarship for his studies. His interest in jazz led him to study with the renowned jazz guitarist, Rod Fleeman. In 2006, Jarrod received his Bachelor's Degree in guitar performance, and then later turned on to the art form of flamenco. In 2012, he co-founded the modern Flamenco group "De los Barrios", performing throughout the Midwest and accompanying flamenco classes with Kansas City Ballet.

The best project that I have been involved with is teaching, giving my students the ability to make a career in music by either performing or going to college to pursue music.

Jarrod has been teaching every genre of music since 2002. He has acquired his teaching style through impeccable technique, music history, and music theory, and through his numerous years of studying with various teachers. Grab the opportunity now, while he teaches privately out of his house in Kansas City, or online via Skype.
