Comprehensive Guitar, Bass and Banjo Instruction

    (35 reviews)

Besides teaching my students how to just play songs, I like to give them an in-depth understanding of the instrument and of music. I listen intently to what my student would like to be able to do or play on the guitar, bass or banjo, and do my very best to give them the skills in order to achieve their goals, whether it be certain songs (which are extremely motivating) or certain skills. I teach a lot of things I've never seen taught in books, videos or the internet. A lot of the secrets to being successful at playing proficiently and getting right to the meat of what will make you a good player, not just a so so player. I like to give them the tools to take what I teach them and be able to figure things out for themselves instead of them having to have a ridiculous amount of reference material and be at the mercy of just doing what they're told to do through books, videos and etc. Many of my students have taken what I taught them and went on to successful careers in music as teachers, performers and even producers! It is very rewarding to me to see the fruit of my labor! I've had many students that I've taught from early childhood until they graduate High School, and some adults for as long as almost 20 years. I am good at keeping my students motivated and engaged, giving them the flexibility to make decisions of what they would like to learn! My retention rate (ability to hold on to students) is approximately 95%! I love that I'm able to do what I love to do for my living! I feel very fortunate to be able to do this! I started out teaching at my home back in late 1989 with a few students at first and was able to build up my student load to over 80 students a week and have stayed for the most part very steady for all these years. I like to be a positive influence on my students helping to direct them into a very rewarding profession or just to do it for fun! I like to help them become the best possible player and to play as effortlessly as possible. I like to have a fun time, which helps it to be an enjoyable experience for my students! Each season the store has a recital that a number of my students are very excited about being involved with! I am on cloud nine for much of the week following each recital! My students always do great! I am so proud of each one of them for putting the necessary amount of practice in to nail the material! I love to motivate them, and encourage them to become the kind of player I know they can be!!

    Master Guitar School

    (13 reviews)

I have a comprehensive method for guitar that is first and foremost conceptual in nature. The method progresses in a logical and linear manner through 900 years of musical development and applies it to the guitar. Most teachers just teach songs. If you study with me you will gain the knowledge and tools to figure the song out for yourself. If I've got a guitar in my hand I'm a happy guy!

  • Agee Music Lessons

    (7 reviews)

FAQ What do I need to bring? An instrument, a recording device and a small notebook What does it cost? $35 for one hour lesson, $30 for a 45 minute lesson or $25 for a half hour lesson What if I have to cancel a lesson? Give 24 hours notice and Dave will set up a make-up time. Do I need to read music? No, Dave primarily teaches by ear. Reading music is always a good tool, however learning to play by ear helps the student remember the tune and gives them the freedom to think about rhythm and ornamentation. What levels does Dave teach? Dave teaches beginning students through advanced players. Does Dave teach any other types of music? Yes, besides Traditional Irish and Scottish music Dave also teaches Appalachian or 'old time' music, French Canadian tunes and music from Brittany. I love teaching and seeing people grow as musicians.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Jarrod Stephenson

I teach students of all ages, and all genres of music. My students also get back what they put into it. The more they practice, the faster they grow as players and as musicians.

Jarrod Stephenson had been honored with a Greensburg Guitar Scholarship for his studies. His interest in jazz led him to study with the renowned jazz guitarist, Rod Fleeman. In 2006, Jarrod received his Bachelor's Degree in guitar performance, and then later turned on to the art form of flamenco. In 2012, he co-founded the modern Flamenco group "De los Barrios", performing throughout the Midwest and accompanying flamenco classes with Kansas City Ballet.

The best project that I have been involved with is teaching, giving my students the ability to make a career in music by either performing or going to college to pursue music.

Jarrod has been teaching every genre of music since 2002. He has acquired his teaching style through impeccable technique, music history, and music theory, and through his numerous years of studying with various teachers. Grab the opportunity now, while he teaches privately out of his house in Kansas City, or online via Skype.
