Difficult customer with a difficult roof Gabe at Golden Gables is great! Quality Work and a Quality Price! He answered every one of the 200 questions I asked him, and if he didn’t know the answer, he found it. Gabe gave me honest answers that made making a difficult decision an easy one. My roof has multiple gables and overhangs with window accents and molding that needed to be handled properly. Everything that Gabe said he would do, he did, and if it didn’t need something he passed the savings back to me. This was not an easy roofing job and I knew whomever I choose would need to know their stuff and Golden Gables does. The few issues that I had were handled quickly and professionally that very same day. I have the quality and look I asked for at a fair price. I would recommend Gabe and Golden Gables to anyone needing a new roof or any roofing needs. Sincerely, Dan Martinez Wildwood, MO

After we sold our home and went through the process of negotiating the terms of agreement after inspection, we were hit by the hail storm of the year. We had two weeks until closing. JV and his crew replaced the roof, siding, and gutters in that short time, and we made it to closing. Whew!

My proposed vent repair involved tearing out a ceiling. That would have made it a three-day project. Mike, from Above and Beyond proposed venting in the opposite direction through an unfinished store room. The job was done in three hours, and the installation showed masterful engineering and craftsmanship. Their slogan says it all, "If I can't fix it, it ain't broke."

Roesch Brothers Construction were hired to install shingles for my new roof. I was very impressed with the work they did. The whole process from the starting bid to putting the final shingle on was a great experience. They are very easy to communicate with and show up to get the job done right.

During the Summer of 2016 our roof experienced high winds and damage that created a roof leak. The team from B. Raines was out at our home within 24 hours to install an emergency tarp and get the process started on replacing the roof. While getting a roof replaced can be a lot of paperwork and timing, dealing with B. Raines was honestly the easiest part of the whole process. Customer service is very important during this process and they continued to stay in touch with my wife and I. This level of attention is what really impressed us. Even after the roof was completed they continued to call to check in, making sure everything was okay. If you are in looking for a professional and honest company, call them.

B&C Contracting Specialists did an outstanding job replacing my roof and gutters. They arrived early, stayed late and worked through the heat of the day. They cleaned up all their debris and worked hard to make my house look good again. They went out of their way to make sure everything they did met with my approval, they by far exceeded my expectations. Look no further than them for anything you need.

We had them install a new roof on our home caused by hail and they did a wonderful job. They worked with the insurance company on my behalf too because I was unable to during work hours. They even got the insurance company to pay out more money for items not listed in their estimate that was also damaged.

I recently used Thumbstack to find a roofer after being told by several they were too busy due to several recent storms in the area. WCC responded to my Thumbstack search, and they did an outstanding job. I recommend them highly. For reference, mine is a flat roof in the City that needed extensive flashing replacement.

I can recommend Chris Mallet highly and without reservation. In December 2013, Chris supervised a roofing, gutter, and fascia project at my home. Since he personally has experience as a roofer in the past, I felt much more comfortable and confident with his recommendations. His knowledge and experience became evident to me as we discussed some of the finer details of the scope and cost of this project. This job presented some particular challenges which Chris attended to each one without hesitation. Case in point: three other roofing contractors said drip edge could not be installed on my roof but Chris figured out how to do it. On several occasions, he came back on his own time to polish up and correct a few mistakes the subcontractors overlooked. During the entire project, he was always courteous, professional and responsive. Chris always made sure I was satisfied with the quality of workmanship at each phase. I would definitely use Chris again and have recommend him to my friends and family.

An old tree made me need a roof repair, I called Enterprise Contracting and they had a crew on my house that afternoon. Not only did they fix the the hole but also gave me a bid for some siding work I asked about. A little over a week later had new siding installed. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
