Everything was fantastic, from the first email to picking out our photos! Rich was very easy to communicate with and the whole process was much better than previous experiences we've had with photographers. Our photos look so good, we are having a hard time narrowing down which ones to choose. We will definitely be using Rich again and will recommend him! So glad I took the time to look for the right photographer.

Lyn is absolutely amazing! She came to us here in Greenville,SC. She chose an amazing location after I told her exactly what I wanted. Her prices are super cheap for amazing quality! I would never use another photographer again. It was blazing hot and she was extremely patient making sure she got every shot and that they were perfect. I've used a lot of photographers in the past and she outdid them all by a long shot and I couldn't be happier with our amazing photos!

Elizabeth is a great communicator and very responsive. She was willing to work with us and was incredibly flexible about getting together around our limited availability. She is an impressive photographer and videographer. When producing our video her creative talent has a great sense of timing that matched the music to our video very well. She is a multi talented and creative person who is very personable and relatable. We gave her a very basic framework of what we wanted and were hoping for even though at that time we didn't have a lot of direction to give her. She gathered our ideas, put together shooting locations, addressed our top desires and guided us through our project through the end. On top of that she even extended us many courtesies which she didn't have to do. The video she produced is top quality and something we will cherish for years to come. Working with Elizabeth was truly a pleasure and we cannot wait to work with her again in the future!

I cannot say enough good things about Scott Clinton and the photo shoot we did with him. I worked for a national ad agency for many years prior to coming to BonWorth and we used photographers from all over the world--Scott was better, more creative, easier to work with and generally the best I have ever had the pleasure to work with. We plan on using him exclusively from this point forward. Lynne Strickland, BonWorth Marketing

I was in a pinch (timewise) to have my professional headshot completed for a presentation the same week. Cody was immediately responsive to my request (less than 5 minutes) and was present at my office the very next business day before noon. We took a variety of shots and chose various backdrops that were lit in different ways. Cody selected the best shots and sent them via Dropbox the next day. So while there are many local photographers in the greater Charlotte, NC area I would recommend Cody for any of your project needs based on his professionalism and availability and quality work.

The girls and I had a great time while working on my photoshoot. Lindsey and Jamie are both laid back, and pleasant to work with. Lindsey had some ideas beforehand, so we didn't go blindly into the shoot- everything worked out smoothly, and it didn't take long at all (compared to other shoots that I've done)! Excellent photographers with top notch work!

I had the best experience with Kingdom Entertainment!!! They did a slide show for my wedding and they did a video of the entire wedding and reception. The work and products both were phenomenal and we are so pleased!!! They were able to capture all our special moments, they interviewed our guests, they live-streamed our wedding so my husband's family could see the wedding live in Ghana, and they created a finished product that we will forever treasure. The package we chose was well-worth the money and I am so pleased with all we received for the money we spent. It was very reasonably priced and I am so glad that we chose Kingdom Entertainment as our videographers!!! I highly recommend them to anyone and I will definitely use them again in the future!!! If I could give ten plus stars, I would!!! Great job!!!!

INCREDIBLY easy to work with. That along with their assistance in creative direction is why they are our 'go to' photographers when we launch new products. Their work pops on our Shopify and Amazon stores.

Working with Demario of Hollow Township Entertainment LLC was truly a pleasant experience. From the swift response to my request on Thumbtack, all the way through to my birthday event, Demario was professional, punctual and followed my specific instructions for the celebration video completely. When my family and I watched the draft video of my celebration, we laughed and cried as if we were attending the party all over again. Demario captured vital portions of the event which included speeches, laughter, dancing and well wishes from my family. Hollow Township will be my "go to" videographer for future events.

I have worked with other photographers before, and she definitely stands out from my previous experiences. She covered my daughter's quinceañera and did an excellent job. She's very down to earth, arrived early, has been very responsive to communication, is fairly priced, and knew precisely when to take the most memorable shots. She took the most awe inspiring candids and knew just how to stage portraits and group shots. Honestly, there's a shortage of good photographers in the area. You get photographers who overcharge for shoddy simple portraits to others who won't even go for family events unless they charge ridiculous rates. I am very pleased with the rate, customer service was top of the line, and I'm very pleased with the results. I would most definitely recommend her to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
