I hired Bruce Davis and Around HIS Image Publishing to publish a book for me, a novice writer. After making a few other contacts with less than desirable results I made contact with Bruce Davis. I had no clue what I needed to do except write but he and the Around Him team made it an awesome experience, holding my hand throughout the entire process. With God's confirmation we've been working together and I have nothing but admiration and respect for him as a person and business man. If you find yourself in need of a marketing company or publisher he is the right person.

Jackie was great to work with. She wrote fundraising appeals for my clients. I am a lousy writer but have strong opinion about what needs to be said. Jackie listened and delivered - every time!! In addition to perfect content, she was easy to work with and always met my deadlines. I will work with her again if the right project comes up. Jackie can provide my email to you if you have specific questions. She is the best!!

Wonderful writing tutor and coach for my 12 year old son. Jami has great insight and techniques to help the young, struggling writer. I have great confidence that she can help my son to be successful. Jami is very supportive and nurturing as a teacher and my child is really responding well to her approach.

Diane worked direct for me as a Tech Writer at DRI corp. She was an invaluable addition to the company and brought order and clarity to all documentation, internal as well as external. She quickly picked up the technical aspects and then inventoried and made a gap analysis of the documentation set. She then worked diligently and effectively with all SME's to close the gaps and reform the entire set of product documentation, with minimal guidance, including technical content and adaptation to specific audiences. I can highly recommend Diane!

I have had the pleasure of working with Sherri Orner for since 2002. She is the consummate professional, always turning out work that is high quality and error-free. She is an outstanding writer and editor and has very good attention to detail. Virtually every important piece of communication I have shared in the past 15 years- be it a letter, PowerPoint presentation, documentation, etc. - has been reviewed and vetted by Sherri. I enthusiastically recommend her to any person, from entry level to executive, who needs help with communication and administrative tasks.

As a freelance writer, researcher and editor, Kat consistently and reliably turns in polished, professional grade work, on time, without fail. I recently hired her to do some research and copy writing for Carolina Partners in Mental Health Care; she finished every assignment well within the deadlines, taking painstaking care to craft well-written, exhaustively-researched pieces without typos or grammatical errors. I now consider her a go-to resource for our company. Kat is highly communicative - if she has questions, she will get in touch with you right away, to ensure that she goes into any assignment with all the requisite information. In short, Kat is a good writer, a hard worker, and a delightful person to work with. I cannot recommend her skills enough.

        About

I have an undergraduate degree in industrial and systems engineering, and a Juris Doctor from a prominent law school. I practiced law for almost 30 years, during which time, it was necessary for me to generate many written documents both for the court and in the form of reports to my corporate clients. I was on the editorial board of a prominent legal publication, and published a section of a guide used by attorneys for continuing education purposes. Additionally, in my capacity as a partner in various large law firms, it was necessary for me to edit and critique the writing of numerous young attorneys over the years. In recent years, I served as an English and writing instructor at the community college level. For over five years, I have maintained a Google Blogspot blog, The View from Outside My Tiny Window. Additionally, I recently published an e-book, Starting Your Business – The Fundamentals: A Comprehensive, Thinking Business Owner’s Guide, which can be found on Amazon.com. As a result of my experience, I have extensive writing skills. I can generate all sorts of legal documents, both litigation and transactional in nature, and I can perform numerous paralegal functions. Outside of the legal domain, I can perform a number of different tasks, including, but not limited to, the following: (a) generate blog or other web site content; (b) generate timelines after the review of documents; (c) generate difficult and complex letters; (d) organize and summarize voluminous documents; (e) edit scholastic papers; (f) write speeches; (g) simplify complex documents; (h) write articles for various publications and newsletters; and (i) generate business policy and manuals. As you can see, I have a wide range of experience in many different fields.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

        • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
        • Strong writing skills.
        • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
        • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
        • Expertise in your target area.
        • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

        • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
        • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
