I hired JCM to clean my tile grout in my kitchen and two bathrooms. Amazing job. In and out in less than 2 hours, a great price, great results. Not sure what else you can ask for. Will definitely use again.

I had a wonderful experience with Correa Drywall. Christian Correa (owner) was an excellent worker, his skills with dry wall exceeded my expectations. But what I really like about Christian was his attitude! He always cheerful and positive even though when he ran into difficult situations that need to be resolved. He also does painting, floor works (tiles, laminate & hard wood). I highly recommended this company to anyone that needs these services.

Nick did an excellent job on our mini kitchen upgrade. He installed a floating LVP flooring over a previous horrible ceramic tile, changed a lighting fixture, re-installed our dishwasher and fixed our refrigerator water line. (we now have ice! YAY!) This is our first home and he's an excellent source of information and expertise! Will definitely be calling him for future reno projects.

In early May I had a pipe burst in my kitchen. I quickly saw there was significant damage. Through a friend I was introduced to Bobbie Jones. He came in accessed the damage and helped me file with my insurance and began a large clean up job. Bobbie sucessfully removed mildewed sections of walls that the water damage recovery missed; then put the sections of the walls back so seamlessly that you can't tell where a repair was done. He continued to do the same quality work as he replaced all my floors down stairs (living room & kitchen in vynl wood, kitchen in tile). He continued to do a high quality job replacing my front and back doors, vent covers, and even a few eletrical socket or covers. Bobbie always acted professionally, provided a work schedule, and was prompt. Bobbie explained each step to me in a way I could understand, and took the extra time to make sure I understood what potential unexpexted difficulty we might encounter. Over all Bobbie not only did a high quality work, but you could tell he took pride in his work and enjoyed what he did. It's rare to find this level of quality, professionalism, and personabness in our curent culture. I was very blessed to have Bobbie work on my house.

Pullen Contracting was extremely professional, fair, and did outstanding work. I worked directly with Bill Pullen and couldn't have been more impressed with how easy he made everything. We had what I considered to be a few "tough" problems, but he made it seem easy and he and his team did the work quickly and for a very fair price. Drywall and painting work was seamless and blends in perfectly with each room he worked in. Mr. Pullen is friendly, offers excellent suggestions about problems that may have caused repair needs, and his work matched his estimate. I will not hesitate to go directly to Pullen Contracting for any future needs. I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone looking for drywall or other contracting work. My husband and I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you to Pullen Contracting for solving a problem for us and making it painless!

I hired Raleigh Property Services to repair grouting around my granite kitchen counter top. Michael Garr responded to the urgency of my request, performing the work needed on a Saturday to address the grout issues in time for a scheduled Sunday Open House. In fact he worked well into the evening and did a superior job, well beyond my expectations. He is hardworking and has the experience to properly prepare for the project by accurately mixing multiple grout colors to achieve a color match to the ceramic tile grout. Further, this re-grouting job creates an INCREDIBLE MESS!!! Not to worry with Michael Garr's dedication to cleaning all traces of grit from your surfaces. I am very pleased with the timely service and attention to detail that produced professional results above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend you consider contracting your repair work with Raleigh Property Services as Michael Garr will not disappoint!!!

I went with my gut instinct and chose Kimberley and Patrick to re-tile my guest bathroom floor. They were quick to respond and answered all of my questions. The thing that set them apart from the rest was that they eased my concern about leaving subcontractors at my house to help with the job. They assured me that it would just be the two of them, and they held to their word. They estimated how long the job would take, and they worked very hard to make that happen. Highly pleased and definitely have them on my "call list" should I need any other projects completed (which knowing me...I will!). Great job, guys!

Juan did a great job with a tricky backsplash tile job for me. Little did I realize there were 13 different outlets/light switches he had to cut around. Needless to say he did a great job with the small tiles and I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

Carlos and his team have been just fabulous to work with. They have handled so many projects for us, from small to massive. All handled until we were 100% satisfied. Below is list of the projects they have completed for us over the last year: 1. Total renovation of master bathroom - Demo, all tile work, electrical, sheetrock repairs, paint, plumbing, repairs to lots of water damaged areas, and construction of pony wall. 2. Repairs to damaged wood rot due to woodpecker. 3. Painting (to include smoothing out ceiling) 4. Paint/glaze kitchen cabinets 5. Construction of retaining wall and revisions to existing irrigation set up. 6. Various other small projects, as needed. As you can see, Carlos' group can handle just about anything. We will never call anyone else.

Reversible Renovations built a wheelchair accessible bathroom and remodeled an adjacent room to make a bedroom for my husband, who has a traumatic brain injury and uses a wheelchair. Richard worked closely with my husband's physiotherapists to design the project. Richard also provided a very detailed quote for the job. Heather, the designer, worked closely with me to choose the tile, fixtures, cabinetry etc. A custom sink was designed to accommodate the wheelchair but it also looks beautiful. A terriffic site manager did a lot of the carpentry and coordinated the other trades workers. The quality of the work was top notch, the project came in slightly below the estimate, and was done before expected. An added plus was the way each of the workers cleaned up after themselves and took pride in quality work. They were willing to make changes as they worked on the project to accommodate issues that came up, like an existing doorway that was too narrow. I can't wait to have them back to redesign my kitchen to accommodate to my husband's needs once he reaches his highest recovery point.

    About

When I do ceramic tile and mosaic and if you dream of it, I can do it no matter what it is! I do showers, countertops, backsplashes and foyers. Well, basically, everything is what I do!

    About

We are a full-service whole house company specializing in stone and tile installations. As owner, I started out in ceramic, porcelain and stone installations almost 15 years ago, and this continues to be our specialty. We do full remodel, if desired, but can do jobs as simple as small repairs. We have been in the remodel market since our conception, unlike others who dropped out of new construction and transitioned into remodel after 2008. Remodel takes a unique mindset and technical skills that most of the checkbook contractors don't have. Myself and my guys are the ones on the jobs, and not subcontracted out to the lowest guy to go in. We are the only one of two kitchen and bath remodel companies that do all of our work without subcontracting out in the Raleigh, Cary, Apex and Chapel Hill area. Most K and B companies work by having a group of contractors to send in to do the work once the job has been quoted. Who do you think pays that markup for them to push paper across the desk? We look forward to working with you, no matter how big or small the project is.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

For more on how to remodel a bathroom and bathroom tiling check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.
