We replaced our roof with J & M Construction. The quality of work and service were outstanding especially for the great price. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. They installed a ridge vent and because they had to cut into my roof it caused a lot of sawdust on the things that I have stored in the attic. If they had warned me I would have covered that stuff up. That would be my only complaint. Otherwise the job was very well done.

Polite, prompt, and professional. I had a new sealant installed on my skylight but was recommended to replace. Only reason 4 not 5 is because it has yet to be tested. I would still recommend this company based on their courtesy.

I traveled to Greensboro from Fayetteville to have this roof repair done on a specific day. Sergio called me and was prompt on arriving at the address and after checking the roof, left to get the materials he needed, returned promptly and completed the job. While I called Antonio Remodeling/Renovations for a specific area of repair, Sergio checked the entire roof for me and completed all the areas that needed attention in a couple of hours in one afternoon.

Dave cleaned my dryer vent out from the dryer to the outside of my house. He also checked my dishwasher which I had been having trouble with but recommended a licensed repairman for that. Dave was friendly and professional. I will definitely call him again.

I contacted NOR-DAC after a home inspection report and needed quotes on the "Major" items of concern. Chris was one of the first to respond and view the property. Quotes provided were very reasonably priced and I contracted him to do several items at the property. Plumbing, Electrical, Porch Rails, Subflooring, etc. NORDAC will get the job done at a reasonable price and time. As a real estate investor its good to have dependable people you can count on, NOR-DAC definitely is on our preferred list. Thanks Chris look forward to doing more business this year

Bruno Roofing did our roof in 2017. We were so very pleased with the work they did. Johnny was very professional and had great communication. The crew finished everything in two days and I have yet to have any leaks nor find any remaining debris. They were very courteous and cleaned up after themselves each day. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to replace or repair their roof. They also do free estimates! Keep up the good work and bring on the rain!

We first met JC and Robinson Construction when they performed major repairs after a tree limb crashed through our roof. They did an excellent job with the roof repair including replacing 8 sheets of plywood, interior drywall ceiling and wall replacement, and additional repairs to a rotted sun room roof and exterior over sized sun room window and supporting structure. Robinson Construction also replaced two sun room sunlights. All work was top notch and completed on time. JC's star performer is his lead carpenter Freddie who is clearly an outstanding craftsman and the key to JC and Robinson's success. We were so impressed with this experience that we then paid a reasonable premium to have JC and crew repaint the home and effect other needed repairs, and install two new doors. The end product was equally impressive but the work dragged on for well over a month, partly due to weather but also due to other job conflicts. The length of time it took became aggravating and detracted from an otherwise positive outcome. Still I would highly recommend JC and Robinson Construction, just make sure you have a strong understanding regarding the timeline for completion.

We actually sold the home before getting the roof installed but we also passed along the estimate. Their price with the actual work to be done was much more reasonable. Eco shield was extremely responsive.

Triad Installations put a new roof, siding and gutters on a large new construction garage for us. Rich was quick to respond to our emails and questions throughout the bid process, and he was quite clear about what was included in his estimate. The crew showed up when they said they would and worked hard through blistering heat. The crew chief was very knowledgeable about construction issues, answered all our questions about what was going on and checked the work in progress to ensure it was done right. Rich came by several times to make sure things were going well. The finished garage looks great and we are very happy with it. We highly recommend them and will be asking them to bid on our next project.

Performance Roofing Systems did an outstanding job installing our new roof and gutters. Our first contact was with Travis and we were very impressed with him from the very beginning. The guys (Travis, Lucas and Sam) who installed our roof were very hard working, professional and did quality work. We are very pleased with our new roof and gutters. We would definitely hire this company again and would recommend them to anyone needing their services.

Rises Construction replaced the roof of my home in September 2015. I was very happy with the job they did. They were very professional, and extremely helpful during the entire process from assessing the roof to working with my insurance company to helping us choose the perfect replacement shingles. The owner Pete Trudniak was great to work with, extremely knowledgeable and professional. I would highly recommend this company!

I hired Jacob to install an attic fan in the roof of my home. Jacob's response time on Thumbtack was lightning fast, and he was genuinely interested in gaining my business. His price estimate was extremely fair and he and his crew did a wonderful job of installing the fan. Jacob and his crew were polite, respectful and worked VERY HARD in the heat to get the job done in a timely manner. I HIGHLY recommend Jacob for any handyman project you may have. Outstanding job, guys... Keep up the good work!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
