Hi my name is Teresa Fox
Some 30 years ago while pursuing an acting career in NYC my passion for cooking began. Everyone knows that a striving actor works as a server or cater-waiter to pay the rent. While working in a restaurant, Walter, the German pastry chef, opened that first door. I watched him perform his creations like a mesmerized kid enclosed in a glass room separated from the rest of the kitchen. One day he invited me in to his gallery and asked if I would like to learn his artistry. From that point on, my pilgrimage began.
Devouring cookbooks and food magazines my cooking skills developed enough to open a door. The Silver Palate, one of the first gourmet take out shops on the upper west side of Manhattan, was my first paying job. The owners Julie Rosso and Shelia Lukins with their timeless sense of taste and cookbooks enlighten the average cook…….and still do.
My career path waned and detoured over the years but each course brought me to where I am now. Starting with food styling, recipe tasting and writing, to owning my own biscotti and cookie factory, to FINALLY “French Culinary School”!!!!!!
My new found credentials lead me to a 3 year tenure at the TV Food Network. As a prep chef and on set chef to the stars, my culinary universe propelled. Sara Molten, Emeril Lagasse, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali Aarón Sánchez, Tyler Florence and Julia Child, just to name drop a few!
After my stint there, I started a corporate catering company working with an exclusive post production film company for the next 7+ years until the crash of “08” which brought me to Raleigh/Durham NC, the up and coming “small town food capital in the southeast”. Arriving with NYC restaurant experience, a culinary degree and Food Network pedigree, not to forget my love of preforming, what was the next door to open?
Every door I went through prepared me for this next culinary challenge. My acquired experiences, skills, entertainment factor and maturity unlocked a new passion - teaching. The next stage of my career I shared my information teaching professional culinary school. After 7 years at the International Culinary Institute and as a guest chef, my journey led me to creating Fox Culinary Studio, offering cooking and wine classes for the aspiring “home chef” juniors and teens, private events and corporate teambuilding.
My passion is teaching those who enjoy food, cooking, exploring wine and just wanting to have fun while “finding their cooking confidence.”See more
