Brayan and the crew arrived and had my lawn trimmed/mowed and cleaned of tree debris in 15 mins. On top of that they charge half of what everyone else does. Him and his crew were nice too. I will definitely recommend and rehire. Good job.

Jonathan and his crew did an outstanding job on a fairly complex wall removal and structural support project. Jonathan himself was very professional, responsive and easy to work with. The guys on his crew were knowledgeable, polite and hard working. Pricing was reasonable. The most impressive part was how quickly they got the work done. The job was quoted by other contractors to take at least 2 weeks and Salazar Express got it completely done and cleaned up in 3 days. I will definitely hire them in the future for other remodel jobs on my rental houses.

We just had a very large oak tree removed by D&S. I was nervous about how it would be removed but they put my mind at ease. They were very professional, showed up on time, and completed the work as expected. They even stayed late to make sure the work was completed on time. I would definitely recommend D&S to anyone looking to have their trees trimmed or removed.

Everything looks great. We lost 1/4 of a huge tree in hurricane Irma. JJ came by to chop up and remove the tree. Not only that but there was a big pile of other trimmings I had from other post hurricane clean up. I didn't request to have that hauled away but it was taken care of anyway - that was awesome!

After minor scheduling Snafu, single worker showed up, removed tree, ground stump and cleaned up debris. Happy with result, although he had to borrow rake and rope to tie down branches in undersized pickup truck bed. Also, did not bring blower to remove sawdust and debris from driveway - told him that I would handle that. Jerry worked hard in sweltering heat and accomplished job in less than an hour. Price was reasonable.

I am writing to discuss the superior service we received. Lightening struck a tree in the front of our house on a Sunday night. I sent a request through thumbtack Monday morning. This company was the first to respond. They arrived in a timely manner and was able to take care of the tree that had fallen on both of our cars mind you. I was preparing to leave on a business trip and had so much going on. They were courteous and timely. The tree was removed, we were able to get the cars to the shop, I got my rental and made my business trip. Thanks for all of your assistance.

Just used Verdes today for the first time. I was in a pinch to get a tree pruned and yard cleaned up before my father’s house was being listed for sale. Edwin responded promptly and had all the work done in less than 24 hours! The tree and yard look great, so good that I plan on using them for regular maintenance. On a scale of 1-10, they deserve a 12.

Mr. Stone was very prompt in getting back to me to set up a time. He came out to look the job over and made me a quote. He was here when he said he would be and had the job done safely in one afternoon. Of all the people that quoted on this job (safety issue with 70ft. tress broken at ground level and leaning against another tree) he was the only one that showed me what he hoped to do and then he and his crew did it better than what they said they would do. There was minimal damage done to yard. Very Impressed and I would recommend Mr. Stone to anyone.

Bought a home that had been empty for four years full of overgrown shrubs and trees. Walls in the basement were torn out to replace rooms in the basement due to water. Excellent service and price. I couldn't be happier with the work done.

I used Scruggs Lawn Service to replace my dying fescue front lawn with new Bermuda sod. I also used Scruggs to take down about 12 medium sized trees on my property. Jason is a nice guy, he's honest, and does quality work at a fair price. I highly recommend him for any of the services he provides.

Right before hurricane Florence and yet he delivered early and with quality. His home base is in Spartanburg, but he was able to do this in Rock Hill. My only downfall was the equipment damage to the yard, but guess that can't be prevented. Better the yard than the house when a tree falls.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
