Jayme has been an amazing design collaborator and vision crafter for my home office space--my primary place of business. I had a ton of different ideas and he was enormously helpful in listening, interpreting, offering suggestions, culling things out, and finally drafting a design with product suggestions and sourcing information that was invaluable. I'm on a budget and that didn't faze him a bit--he was glad to source high-quality services and items in a reasonable range as well as trust our DIY skills to take on parts of the project ourselves. He has been clear, friendly, and just generally a joy to work with. I can't recommend him highly enough! I will absolutely use him again.

Julian was hired to clear out land of trees and shrubs and just growth. He came out and gave us a quote. He beat everyone by a mile. I was a little sceptical as he was a newer business but we decided to give him a shot. Great decision. He has been working his heart out. We had 10+ larger trees that needed to be taken down and he did it with ease. He has worked so hard and really gone above and beyond. He cleared out the land and graded it so we can lay our foundation and begin our new home. We are so grateful for him. We even have him a little extra since he was so well priced and we still saved! Can't beat that.

We used KayRon in helping us remodel our 70's ranch home. KayRon was always very pleasant, flexible and prompt. She had a good understanding of our decorating style and made recommendations that enhanced it. KayRon has a good eye for color that worked well in our home and offered a variety of good vendor choices. We would and continue to use her services.

I provide services in home staging that are all centered around the home buying and selling experience. A home stager helps prepare your home for sale for the top dollar and show potential buyers how their things and life can look in your home. I have ten years of experience. I work with realtors and sellers. Please visit my website: for more information. I work in Greensboro area, Raleigh area, and Wilmington. I absolutely am honored to help people move on to the next phase or stage of their lives by helping them prepare their homes for sale (staging to sell) or helping redesign their environment (staging to dwell) for the next step. As an extension of this work, I also assist i paint color selection, and next-stage living in place. Since 2003, I have worked as a stager part-time, and now have been able to devote full time to this work. I am very quick and thorough, working smoothly with realtors, contractor/flippers, and homeowners in residences with or without existing furnishings. Please let me know how I may serve you! In your case, if you could send me three photos of each room (stand in one place near entry door of that room and take a left view, center view and a right view from your one stance), I might be able to write up a consultation which would be a room-by-room to-do list for you to complete. That cost will be $250. If you want me to travel to your house, that fee would be $100 more. I’d love to do this project with you. I did one just like this situation in FL and the house sold in less than 2 weeks after lingering for 6 months on the market. In your case, I need to see the property for a quick walk-through, assess the buyer pool and their likes and dislikes/expectations, and then write a proposal. Do you want to rent furniture from me? Do you want me to buy furniture for your use in another home? We can get these questions answered quickly, I'm sure. Initial fee is $150 to come to the property. Then, if you choose me as your stager, this fee can be absorbed into my estimated price. Thank you! -Carol at

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

  • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
  • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
    • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
  • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
    • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
  • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
  • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.
