John was a perfect JP. My daughter loved his speaking voice. The way he organized the wedding party when people seemed very flustered. was such a relief. John even took selfies with the wedding party after. Very happy we chose John and encourage everone too. Thank You for making her day perfect and caling in those extra favors for the weather.

Little Miss Sophies did a wonderful job catering my wedding of 175 people. The vegetable, fruit, cheese & cracker display had a great variety and was very well done. For dinner, the taco bar and slider bar were a huge hit, especially with the addition of homemade baked macaroni and cheese! Guests were very satisfied and Jessica, Sue and team were seasoned professionals even when the weather didn't cooperate at times! I would recommend them to anyone in the area that is looking to hire a caterer for their next event.

Event has not yet occurred, but I am looking forward to a great experience. Mike is very professional on the phone, and has a great selection of extras to make the event extra fun. Mike's service offers online scheduling of events that can be revised at any time. He also has online music library to hand select the playlist. I love this feature.

Tiffany is an amazing make up artist! She was very professional and quick to respond to messages when I was first inquiring about make up services for a wedding. This past Saturday she came up to Nashua, to apply make up for my wedding to myself, as well as my bridal party. We all received many compliments of how beautiful our make up was. I would definitely recommend hiring Tiffany! Thank you so much for everything!

We felt imediately comfortable having Julie in our home. She was professional, friendly, efficient and an excellent cook. Enjoyed every morsel she prepared for the tasting prior to our upcoming wedding. We ended up selecting the same menu items we tried at the tasting and are looking forward to seeing Julie again on our wedding day.

Jim Barbere was our wedding photographer in August, 2016, and he was fantastic!!! We highly recommend him! From day one, he was responsive and engaged in our event. We first met to review the contract and to discuss our vision for our wedding... he was enthusiastic and brought creative ideas, but also listened to us and learned about who we were. He also suggested an engagement shoot, which was really helpful to serve as a great "get to know you" session and helped us get comfortable with being in front of the camera. We had so much fun! Then, in discussing our wishes for our wedding photos and learning about the size of our event, he recommended a second shooter, which was a terrific idea! Together, he and the second shooter were able to capture our wedding so beautifully in their photos. Overall, he was fantastic; he listened to us, executed as we wished, and brought enthusiasm and creativity... which resulted in the delivery of beautiful pictures that help us remember the day (which to us was a blur!) and perfectly capture the love we felt that day from our friends and family.

Pablo and his staff worked great together for perfect coordination. For our June 2016 wedding we had picked Pablo well ahead of time for his creativity and great personality. He is always reachable and gets back to you in a timely manner, they listen to the needs of the client and delivered, pictures were given with great presentation at the time promised, and Pablo kept us calm in times of stress during crunch time. We met with Pablo to begin with, his staff that shot our wedding were willing to keep in touch and meet if needed as well. On the very few shots the business stamp was on, it is discreet and elegant. Pick Essence Photography, and you won't regret it! They are fun, creative, and easy to communicate with to make the photography experience what you need it to be. Thanks Pablo!!

We hired Joe to DJ our wedding, giving him a little less than two weeks notice. He communicated well with email, phone, and even made a home visit. He had everything we wanted for our wedding, even accommodated a photo booth set up. On our wedding day, he was prompt, professional, kept us on schedule, and had everyone entertained. Overall, we had a fantastic experience! Joe was the most competitively priced DJ out of all our choices. What a great deal. Thanks, Joe! You are worth every penny! Lisa & Dan

Working with Tomas was a great experience. The cost was reasonable. He was very patient and willing to work with my difficult schedule. He also did his homework and came to the shoot with a number of photo ideas. But he was also very open to the suggestions I made for possible shots. He also had the photos to view before he said he would And the photos?? I love them! You can see in them the love and artistry that he has for the craft. He did such a great job of capturing the different shades of me. I'll be asking Tomas to do me wedding photos when I get married. If you need a photographer, Tomas is definitely your man.

Couldn't possibly complain about anything Brian provided for us at our wedding. He was courteous, interacted with the guests well, wasn't too obtrusive but made sure that he got the best shots possible, and the finished product is absolutely incredible.

Trevor was very accommodating with our last minute venue change. 2 weeks before our wedding day we found out our venue had been double booked and we had been bumped. Instead of rescheduling our entire wedding we just opted to move it to The Victoria Inn in Hampton. It was nice to know that we could count on Trevor to be accommodating when everything else was turning into such a mess. He even brought a second photographer because of the venue change! The weather was great and the photos he did turned out beautiful! We are very glad we went with him.

Beth agreed to be our officiant after our previous one told us last minute that she could not do out wedding. She met with us and went over our ceremony and really wanted to make sure it was personalized and special. She did some editing and took our comments to heart to create the perfect ceremony. She was very easy going and a pleasure to work with. I could not have imagined anything better.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
