We hired Giovanny for the replacement of our front porch steps, a large sidewalk area, driveway paving (remove asphalt and install concrete) and Belgian Block work in our garden areas. It was a very expensive undertaking, but we couldn't be more pleased with the results. He and his crew were here early every day and even worked on a Saturday. Including one day off due to rain, the entire project was completed in 10 days! They are hard workers and excellent craftsmen. We were delighted with the great job they did of cleaning up at the end of each day. I will post pictures as soon as our front railings and columns are reinstalled. We've received numerous compliments from our neighbors. If you need masonry work, call Giovanny! We highly recommend him!

Lazaro fixed a portion of my paver driveway that sunk due to the base washing away. He explained and showed me what had happened and identified what he was going to do to resolve the problem. Lazaro called before he came and was always on time. He never left us hanging. He did a very nice job and the price was very reasonable. I would recommend him to my friends.

Carlos and his team were given the job of completely rebuilding my 70' x 12' driveway and 20' x 15' garage floor. The job required demolition and pouring of asphalt and concrete. The job was completed quickly, neatly, and finally my driveway was pitched correctly! I have received many compliments from my neighbors and the town inspector! Thank you Carlos, I would definitely hire your company again !

Originally, I requested concrete and asphalt removal, a gate, and grass sod for our new yard. Twin lakes provided an onsite consultation and a fair estimate for the work. After realizing the cost of the entire plan, we chose to concentrate on the driveway gate and other fencing to enclose our yard. Twin lakes remained flexible with our plans and maintained a very professional and positive attitude. They installed the gate perfectly, modifying the gutter so that it would not interfere with enclosing the yard. Twin lakes are true professionals and I would recommend them to anyone. We plan to continue using them for many projects to come.

It’s been several weeks since Tri-Force completed redoing the front of my house and let me tell you, the compliments are still coming in on a daily basis. I manage commercial and residential properties and work with contractors on a regular basis so you can imagine the type of standards I have for any work that’s going to be done on my own home. These guys are really good. They totally redid my driveway with pavers, solar lights and put in new concrete for the length of my property. Their prices are fair, they were courteous, on time, professional, accommodating and above all honest. I had gotten estimates with several other local companies and none of them even touched on the issues that my driveway posed. I got suggestions that were completely unnecessary and the quotes I got were all over the place. Tri-Force went above and beyond to make sure that the problems my driveway had like water pooling in certain spots were taken care of. I had tons of ideas about how I wanted things to look and Singh worked with me to make sure that I was able to get what I wanted. The job went smoothly and that is largely in part to the great communication I had with them. They kept me up to date on what was going on and let me know what was going to be happening and when. When you have a lot of things going on (and don’t we all) this is priceless. Again, I’m really pleased with the job and have no qualms giving Singh and his guys my highest recommendation.

Our backyard was a disaster. It had so many branches and leaves it looked horrible. EW Landscaping did a professional job, they gave us back our backyard that we hadn't had in a long time. Their cleanup was phenomenal. They made sure that all the grass, driveway, and street was clean of all leaves that had been blown around. Our neighbor also use them after seeing the job they did for us. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they work is excellent. I would wholed-heartedly recommend them and use them again.

Ryan came over today as planned. Good attitude, ready to work and a funny guy too. Our deck and stairs look great, and he even threw in painting the wood lining our driveway. He did such a great job, he’s eventually coming back to take care of the cracks in our concrete, and I’m sure that work will be just as fantastic! Thank you, Ryan!

Punctual, weather dependent service-Rubin kept in touch with me to reschedule due to rain. Competative pricing. They did a good job avoiding stone pavers and the garage landing. They brushed in these areas- that did leave a noticeable transition to where the rest of driveway was sprayed(98%). It is manageable but my wife noticed/commented. Other services advertise brushing in the entire driveway, perhaps this is the difference in price but not necessarily worth it to me. Also a couple subtle areas on the edges could have been more covered but they are trying to avoid the lawn too. Overall, satisfied, driveway looks good, and I would use them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
