When I ran the upstairs washer, the kitchen ceiling started leaking through a light fixture. Walter was able to come out right away and identify the issue as a broken part in the machine. A couple of days later, the ceiling started leaking again even though the washer hadn't been used. I called Walter immediately and he came out at 9pm on Saturday to see if it was a damaged pipe or residual water build up. Thankfully, it was just residual water leaking. Walter was really great and professional. I definitely recommend him and will hire him again.

Michael was hired to remove and old utility sink/faucet in our basement, install a replacement sink/faucet, replace a failed washer shutoff, replace a spot light fixture on the back of our house that had fallen off, and fix some problems with our vinyl siding. Michael showed up on time and completed each and every job to our TOTAL satisfaction, all in a single day! His work is of the highest quality. Michael is quite knowledgeable about all aspects of home repair. I would not hesitate to hire him for any future projects. I've already given his number to multiple family members and friends who need an honest and capable contractor for their projects. THANK YOU MICHAEL!

I could not recommend Dexter highly enough! I needed someone to temporarily disconnect and move a stacked washer and gas dryer from a very tight space in my kitchen so holes in the wall could be repaired. The work also had to be coordinated with other repairmen who were already scheduled to repair the holes. Dexter was available on only 2 days notice. When his assistant was unable to come at the last minute, he arrived promptly and was ready to tackle the job on his own. He pressed the other repairmen into service to assist him and got the job done efficiently and carefully. He waited until the necessary wall repairs were done, replaced the appliances, and allowed me to test them before he left. He seemed quite experienced and comfortable doing the job, and he was extremely pleasant and polite, which has not always been my experience with handymen hired online. I would definitely hire him again for any appropriate jobs!

Edward was super nice and very knowledgeable about washer and dryers. He let me know that I should swap out my gas dryer to be electric. He installed one set in our upstairs unit and it works perfectly! We will be seeing him again soon!

The tech that disconnected our old gas dryer and installed our new dryer did a great job. Didn't rush and did a very thorough job. We didn't have the correct dryer hose luckily he had a new one in his truck. Highly recommend Roosevelt Appliance Repair Service.

I had Pete power wash my rooftop terrace, consisting of cedar decking and concrete pavers . He washed the cedar decking and built in planters by hand. Thoroughly removing all mildew, algae and grim without harming the wood. He used a pressure washer on the concrete pavers which he brought to the job. He did a great job! Fast and clean. It looks great! I would recommend him for similar work. Very pleasant to work with.

Daniel was very professional, punctual, and a pleasure to work with! We had a tough washer/dryer uninstall to do, as the utility closet it was in was very tiny and cramped with a furnance & a water heater. Initially, the job seemed nearly impossible. Daniel was patient & resourceful. He suggested a cost & time effective solution of removing the door frame. He was able to do the additional work at a very reasonable rate & great proficiency. We really appreciated Daniel's pleasant demeanor & "can do" attitude! We are definitely planning on using his services for all future jobs! :)

I have referred this service to many friends and they are all delighted. They stand by their work and are knowledgeable in many brands. When necessary, they think outside the box for repairs. When the manufacturer of my dishwasher claimed the part for my repair would cost $500, All Appliance Matters was able to fix for $30. It’s been two years and no problem. They have also fixed my washer and dryer and provided maintenance. All around great experience.

He came well equipped with the specific tools needed and the "know how" for the job requested- (Air dryer vent/hook up/clean out) and even offered options to meet our needs and budget. Excellent job, from start to finish, on a clothes dryer repair. Scheduled the work late Thurs evening for 10 am Fri. Arrived on time, identified the problem, was able to get the correct part from a local supplier, installed and fixed. Provided good repair or replace advice. Also, trouble-shot the interior dryer light and emailed me a link to the correct bulb.

Was able to diagnose the problem with my stackable dryer (no easy feat considering we couldn't really take it out to look at the back). Saved me a lot of money because another company diagnosed the problem over the phone and basically told me to get a new dryer. Both repairmen were very nice and respectful, taking off their shoes when coming in (MUCH appreciated), vacuuming out my entire dryer's lint and all around the work area, and even letting me know they were going to speak in their native language since it was easier for them to communicate with each other this way so that I wouldn't be offended. Very friendly. Would hire again for sure.

Absolutely the Best! This is my first time using John (JC Home Tec) as well as Thumbtack. I have to say I am beyond happy with my experience from start to finish. John was very quick with responses and a pleasure getting my appointment set up. I was in need of getting my new washer & dryer installed. John showed up right on time and was very quick to get the installation assessed and completed. He made sure that everything was in working order before he was finished. Due to his thoroughness, he discovered that I'd made a mistake with some of the set-up that I'd done prior to his arrival and saved me from destroying my new machines. He took the time to make sure everything was correct before he left. I couldn't be more thankful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND John for any project/task you may need done. He is professional, polite and attentive. Thank you John and I will definitely hire you again! Cheers.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
