My son (7 years old) started to see Nico for weekly German lessons about 1.5 years ago. Nico has proven himself to be reliable, inventive in getting my child engaged, and indispensable when it comes to fostering my child’s German. My son has made enormous progress in reading and writing German and this despite the ever-growing demands of his all-English school. I would highly recommend Nico’s services to bilingual families.

Gabrielle is a charming person. I enjoyed taking French lessons with her. She is a good listener, organized, professional and made our meetings fun to do. She was very helpful in laying out the lesson strategies to meet my language goals. After two months of classes, I feel more confident expressing myself in another language. We practiced short conversations on different topics. It was worth it. I highly recommend Ms. Armenier for French lessons.

Micaela is a thorough teacher. She transcends the Italian language through great books, cultural relativity and provides strong reading and writing comprehension exercises. She caters her lessons to your learning style and is determined to help you understand the culture and language. She is a real pleasure to have as a tutor. I highly recommend her.

I am French and I have been studying German for my work with Benedict for over a year. His level of proficiency is excellent. His level of French is impressive, and I loved that I could speak French with him. It helped me getting a deeper understanding of the German language. His passion for languages and for art, combined with his outstanding knowledge of philology and philosophy are very unique, and I would have never enjoyed that much my German lessons with another teacher. I highly recommend!

Señora Scherba is a GREAT teacher. I had her in 7th grade as a regular school teacher, and her class was THE BEST! I could never wait to come to Spanish class. And besides, I learned so much, 7th grade Spanish was amazing! In 8th grade, I got a different teacher and was devastated. But I asked Mrs. Scherba to tutor me. Now I'm in 8th grade and finishing the first year of high school level Spanish. Mrs. Scherba is the BEST!

Mara is a talented and insightful teacher. During the time I worked with her, my tone and intonation improved considerably. She expanded my musical horizons and gave me essential tools I continue to use in my singing.

        About

Most teachers, like me, are professional musicians who supplement their income by giving lessons. However: I genuinely love teaching and would happily do it even if I didn't need the money. My students can see the passion and excitement I have for my work, and that does wonders in their ability to learn and develop. It is one thing to play an instrument well, but it is another thing entirely to know how to teach it well.

Fluent City classes are geared towards learning, but we also make sure that the process is super fun. Our energetic and approachable teachers create a relaxed environment for you to take on the challenge of learning a language alongside like-minded people. There is a huge difference between knowing how to speak a language and knowing how to teach it, and we pride ourselves on hiring teachers who are ridiculously good at what they do: explaining how the language works and getting you to speak it immediately. Our beginner classes are usually taught by non-native speakers…on purpose! They are often Americans who learned the language themselves as adults. Our teachers understand, firsthand, everything that goes into learning a language because they were once students of the language themselves, which informs the very way they explain how it works to you. Native speakers or teachers with native-level fluency usually teach our higher-level classes.
