Every Detail Catering provided the food for my baby shower held at my home. Everything was set up and ready within 10-15 mins. The presentation was professional and included everything we needed ( Butter, dressings, syrups, salt and pepper). The food was excellent and there was definitely enough for people to have seconds and thirds. The communication throughout the entire transaction was also very smooth and easy. I would definitely consider using again for future events.

From the moment I was fortunate enough to find Tamara thru a Google search she was attentive and helpful. I was threw a baby shower for my sister in NY; I live in Georgia. I knew I was in capable hands with Tamara right off the bat. Her menu was eclectic and accommodating. Full service! Tamara arrived the morning of the shower 45 minutes early to set up. She stayed throughout making sure the good was warm, the drinks remained full and always had a smile on her face. I would highly recommend Tamara and Amoraco catering for any special occasion one might have...large or small!

chef wayne was great! incredible food, professional and punctual! Dinner was set for 8pm..he was on time despite the NYC traffic.. my husband and I left wayne at the apartment while we ran to the store... by the time we get back (8pm) table was set with candle light and flowers... incredibly romantic... unfortunately my husband and I were running a little late, and had to shower and get dressed...i was totally embarrassed that wayne had to wait on us..every coarse was perfect... we were stuffed by dessert.. our only disappointment was we felt we were over charged.. we set a budget on floral arrangement of 60 dollars.. he spent 70.. he charged us for table cloth, candle holder, and candles 70 dollars...the candle holder was used and not purchased.. he then took everything at the end of the night... we thought we would be paying 460 most for the night and we're charged about 560... not including tip... however other than the unexpected bill we were happy with the service provided.

We had a party in our home for 30 colleagues. Chef Dan arrived exactly on time and brought everything he needed with him. He prepared an array of visually appealing and delectable tasting culinary creations that wowed our guests taste buds and satiated their appetites. The bartender was great and the servers did an impeccable job of constantly bringing Dan's gourmet offerings while being pleasant and unobtrusive. Many caterers provide quantity and some high quality- chef Dan did both at a reasonable price and with a smile on his face. He cooked everything fresh in our kitchen and when he and his staff finished, our kitchen looked as pristine as when he arrived. The party was great fun and a big success. Every one of our guests commented on how fabulous the food was and how outstanding the service. He is our go to guy for any future parties or affairs. kudos and thanks. Mel & Pamela Pratter

There was not enough food. I hosted a baby shower for 35 women. The main course was poached salmon. I was given 2 pieces about 2 lbs each uncut. I saw it wasn't enough and asked my close family to not take any. I was embarrassed by the lack of food. Even all the side salads went. The food was good but most of my catered events i have too much food.

I have two words for Manjar Boutique Catering - Hire Them! Adolfo and his team were nothing more than stellar. We hired them for our wedding. From the initial courtship down to the reception and after, Manjar treated us with professionalism and empathy. There was continuous communication during the months that led to our big day. We did not want your typical "wedding dinner" of mash potatoes and steamed wrapped vegetable. Since my spouse and I are from different cultures, we wanted the food to reflect us. Manjar created a customized menu that did just that. The food tasting was also an experience as well. We felt like we were in a 5-star restaurant with the chef joining us at the table. Once we tasted their food, we immediately signed the contract! On our wedding day, the service was spectacular! We decided to have a family-style dinner where guests would have to interact with each other while passing around food plates. Our guests commented during and after the wedding how good the food and the service were -- which is exactly what we wanted.

Chef Erika was so easy to work with from beginning to end. I was hosting a baby shower, so there was a lot of activity -- but she just came in and quietly created the most amazing, healthy fall meal. It was the perfect way to really spend time with loved ones and not feel the pressure of having to cook all day and time everything perfectly. We couldn't have been happier with the entire experience!

Alana Marie catered my baby shower brunch for approx 35 people. Not only did she create a beautiful menu that considered several dietary restrictions, she brought creativity and fresh ingredients along with a stunning presentation of the food. Will definately hire her again for intimate events and will likely ask again for her to create a menu that considers my budget and the kind if sophistication I was looking for.

I was a little nervous hiring a new person to cater my daughter's graduation party, but glad I made the right decision. The baby lamb chops were a giant hit. I received many compliments from guests on the short rib lasagna, the salmon dynamite, and the grilled vegetables. The chicken bruschetta was cooked perfectly. All of the accompaniments were made with fresh herbs and extremely flavorful. Chef Dave was easy to work with and put up with questions and concerns, answering each promptly. Most of my guests were real foodies and many asked for Dave's card. I will definitely use Chef Dave's Culinary Kitchen again.

Brenda and the Celestial Touch Catering Team are not only friendly, and easy to get along with, they worked for my daughter's bridal shower as if they were doing hosting the event for their own daughter. During my initial consultation with Brenda, we went over food choices at which time she offered many suggestions to give me the best options within my budget. On the day of the event the food was presented beautifully, and was an epicurean's delight. We so enjoyed the food and relationship that was developed that we booked Celestial Touch for my daughter's rehersal diner and wedding reception.

I hired Alex for my daytime Baby Shower brunch on 10/15/16. She was outstanding. After several rounds of collaboration on the menu we landed on sweet and savory options that were delicious. BBQ pulled pork, French toast with marscapone and berries to name a few. My guests loved every dish that came out of the kitchen and Alex was sure to keep serving trays full at all times. I was lucky enough to bring home leftovers as well!!! She's amazing, her food is delicious and I'd love to hire her for another event or just life in general!

Brendan catered my baby shower for over 50 people and was excellent! He talked with us about what kind of vibe we were looking for, took care of dietary restrictions and food allergies (super creative and delicious on that front) and was really fun to have at the party. He is very thoughtful, wonderful to work with and his food is AMAZING. We've also had him help with larger parties to bring some supplemental dishes. We had everything from homemade pita, to brisket, to house made pickles, pastas, salads. I don't think there's anything he can't put a great spin on. He's our first call anytime we need help with food.

Semmentha made "The Prince" theme cake and cup cakes for my wife's baby shower (it had crowns and glitters). For lack of better word, I was simply flabbergast everything came out how I imagined it. Thanks a lot Sem!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
