We had Mike install laminate flooring on a long stairway, a loft/hallway and a master bedroom. The job turned out incredible and he certainly pays attention to detail. In the stairway the job required some precision cuts and calculations and it turned out like a piece of art. Mike is truly a professional and a true craftsman. Besides doing an incredible job he was extremely neat and even vacuumed the driveway, If your looking to have some laminate or real wood floors installed look no further than Ashton Flooring.

Royal Carpet Cleaning is much more than just carpet cleaning. If you have old sheet vinyl floor, they will remove it and install your new sheet vinyl flooring, and they will do it at a very reasonable price. People that do this kind of work are hard to come by, so if you were thinking about replacing that old sheet vinyl floor I strongly recommend that you give Royal a call.

We had Robert do a whole house remodel. M&R services repaired Sheetrock damage in the home, painted the ceilings, walls, closet, garage. They installed baseboards, hardwood flooring (not laminate,) tile floors in the kitchen and bathrooms, and carpeting in the bedrooms. They also did an epoxy flooring in the garage. An extended set of double crown molding was installed. Six ceiling fans were installed and light fixtures throughout the house were updated. An evaporative cooling unit was installed in the garage. Kitchen cabinets were replaced with lights mounted underneath. I love the way the work was completed. Robert and his crew were polite and helpful in explaining the process. They were always on the  lookout for small things which can hold up the process. I will utilize Robert and his crew on my next home project.

I was very happy with the work Johnny and his work force completed on my house. They did a total remodel to our kitchen which included cabinets, countertops and installation of all appliances, sink, garbage disposal, microwave, stove and refridgerator. They also added some walls in areas that we requested and painted the entire interior of our 1900 Sq. Ft. house which was done in several different color schemes. Their work was done very professionally and was completed on time. We are going to have them come back to re-do all our flooring when we are ready for that phase. We have attached before and after photos of our kitchen.

Eric and his father installed laminate flooring in my home. Although the project isn't finished yet, so far they've done a very good job. They are nice to work with. I look forward in completing the flooring project in July. I would recommend Eric. He's dependable and honest.

I don't write rave reviews about too many contractors here in the Las Vegas valley, but Elias Trim, Elias and his Jonathan and their entire crew, is the real deal. A jewel in the desert, really. We had to replace our entire laminate floor (living room and family room due to a flood) and we selected Elias Trim to do the work. Not only did he replace the laminate floor expertly and professionally, but we were fortunate enough to be able to re-use the portion of the old laminate that didn't get water damaged, to cover our stairs and upstairs hallway. Elias did custom, specialty trim along BOTH sides of the staircase and the upstairs hallway based upon a photo I liked he had here on Thumbtack from someone else's job. Meticulous craftmanship, when they said they were showing up at my home, THEY DID!! Hard workers aimed to please and very fair priced, kind, and respecttul of my home. Honestly, I wouldn't call anyone else for any other flooring job I might have in the future.

Where do I begin... I've done several remodel projects in the past in the Midwest where I had a team of people who I knew the quality of their work but being new to the area I was nervous about hiring someone to replace my dated poorly installed floors. I contacted a couple vendors on Thumbtack and Osley responded immediately. We met, he measured the floors and gave me a great price to do the job. I had several other estimates but I felt good about him and decided to give him the job. Boy am I glad I did... because of the quality of his work, I had him redo the guest bathroom (LOOK AT PICTURES!! 😀😀) He did a beautiful job on everything-- complete bathroom remodel, kitchen backsplash, floors (porcelain and laminate), window treatments, painting, baseboards, fireplace tile, etc. I couldn't be happier!! Would I recommend him for your next project? ABSOLUTELY 😀

Dave was so friendly over the phone and his prices were fair and reasonable that I hired Dave to touch up the finish on a small kitchen's cabinets and was so impressed by his attention to detail, work ethic, cleanliness and neatness that I ended up hiring him for all the other projects I needed done on my rental home. He completely painted the interior with custom colors, refinished the kitchen counters, and installed laminate flooring and baseboards. He repaired broken toe kicks and a warped cabinet door. Dave even repaired all the noticeable patched holes in the walls prior to painting them. I was so pleased by Dave's quality of craftsmanship he presented that I will continue to utilize his services.

I used Helping Hands in January 2016 to install tile and laminate flooring in my new home. Lalo was great and very accommodating with my requests. Floors turned out beautiful and work was completed in a timely manner! Have since used him for various "handy-man" jobs and been very pleased with quality of work. To top it all off, his labor charges are considerably less than others and his quality of work is top notch! Definitely recommend this company for help with home improvement and handy man projects!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

      • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
        • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
      • 620 square feet of maple floor:
        • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
        • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
          • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

      • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
      • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
        • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
      • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
      • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
        • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
      • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
        • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
        • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
        • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
          • Includes removal of the dura rock.
      • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
