Rocky is one of nicest people I've ever met. He's great with out child who started lessons at 8 years old and is now 9. We've been seeing Rocky almost weekly for nearly a year. He's flexible, accommodating, patient and encouraging. Since starting with Rocky our child has become grown exponentially as a pianist and loves going for lessons. Additionally Rocky has introduced us to other musicians in the Valley to help grown our son's future! We're very lucky to be working with Rocky and hope to continue for some time.

Pat is fabulous! She has sung with choruses and opera companies, here and abroad. She has it all! Fabulous voice, plays flute and piccolo, and recorder. She has fantastic stage presence! She is so encouraging of her students, is able to pass all of that along to her students and she is the reason that our youngest son has done so well with both getting parts from auditions and onstage. Pat is the most upbeat person I know and she really, truly cares about her students. If you are looking for lessons and or a coach, look no further! She is a fabulous teacher, in every way!

Purchased 4 lessons before a singing gig. Susan gave me more than I expected. She knows what she is doing and really puts a lot of effort in to her students needs. She has kept up with current vocal teachings/skills to share with her students. Excellent. Looking forward to my next 2 lessons. Thank you Susan, you "Rock"

Personal review of Patrick Worley After I retired I decided to play my four string banjo again which I hadn’t played for over 30 years. I decided to do this since my wife plays the harp and this would be a good way to help us do something new together. I went online and did a search for a 4 string banjo instructor and Patrick’s name appeared. I sent an e-mail to Patrick which he responded to quickly and we setup a date to start lessons. One of the first things I noticed about Patrick was his flexibility in being able to come to my home instead of me going to his studio. I requested this since my wife wanted to take Guitar lessons as well and coming to my home made it easier to do this. I was quite nervous since I hadn’t touched my banjo for a long time but Patrick made me feel at ease and we got started. What really amazed me was the amount of knowledge Patrick possesses. I wanted to learn music theory as well as play the banjo and every question I asked, Patrick was able to answer without hesitation. I have to admit that I am not the easiest person to pick things up but Patrick has been very patient with me and will do whatever is necessary to help me progress even if we change course a bit. A few weeks into the lessons Patrick did not have his 4 string banjo since it needed repair but instead brought his Mandolin since it had the same strings as the banjo. The mandolin in fact has two strings each of G, D, A, and E which are the same strings as the 4 string banjo so everything I learned on the banjo would apply to the mandolin as well. This is where my enthusiasm really began to peak since the mandolin sounds great with the harp. I decided to buy my own mandolin and put more emphasis on it then the banjo with the understanding that anything I learned on the mandolin will apply in most instances to the 4 string banjo. Patrick was very supportive of me in doing this. I don’t want to get to wordy here but in only a few months with the mandolin, I was able to play in front of 50 people accompanying someone else playing the guitar. I need to emphasize that I am 67 years old. I received my 4 string banjo in 1964. I never once took the banjo out of my home. With Patrick I was not only able to learn the things I needed to but gained a good deal of confidence in myself to get up in front of people which is really stepping out of my comfort zone. To summarize, I highly recommend Patrick Worley to anyone who is interested in learning how to play the Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, and any other instrument that Patrick knows how to play. Patrick can teach you how to read music, learn music theory, and play the instrument with a very good feeling of confidence.

I've been taking lessons from Tommy for about 6 months now, and it's been great!! He breaks everything down into the simplest form and makes it easy to understand. At the same time, he gives you fun and easy ways to learn the songs you want to play.

Amazing teacher!!! I started guitar lessons with Mike about 2 years ago. I was a beginner (as in I had never played before) and he got me playing immediately and has helped me grow as a musician immensely. He has a wonderful rapport with people and is very patient and understanding. He is incredibly talented and can easily help any level of player improve. I highly recommend Mike Binder!

Sheila is a great teacher and has the ability to excite young children to want to learn music. She's been teaching my daughter for a couple of years now and she still gets excited to go to her weekly lessons. Most children dislike going to their piano lessons but not with Sheila as her teacher

I didn't know what to expect when I started taking lessons at first with Tony. I've taken lessons before and never really got into playing, or practicing. I hated the same weird songs that I used to have to play. Tony has such an amazing approach to guitar teaching. He showed me songs I liked, and would have me focus on parts here and there, and pointing out ways to improve with how I hold my hands, fingerpicking, pulls and slides, etc. I couldn't thank him enough. My playing continues to progress. It doesn't come easy for sure, but Tony hasn't given up on me either!

Michan was a really nice and patient guy when he began to teach me to play guitar. I had never attempted to learn guitar, and thought it would probably just end up being a spur of the moment new years resolution. Until Michan carved into me the passion and beauty of the art of the Spanish guitar, my only complaint is that he left Miami.

Pierce Emata receives my very highest recommendation as a piano teacher. Not only is he an accomplished musician with an impressive knowledge base, but he also became personally invested - from the very first lesson - in our son's success. He did a thorough assessment of Nick's knowledge base and musical skills, and quickly and accurately identified his strengths and weaknesses. We enlisted his services in our son's junior year in high school, to provide advanced training to help secure a place in a reputable music composition program, and to help him be competitive in earning scholarships. Eureka!!! Success on both counts! Pierce is a skilled musician, an experienced composer, and has the true heart of a teacher. He consistently went above and beyond weekly lessons: he helped Nick with two composition pieces for entry into national competitions (great for the college resume), and took it upon himself to contact collegge professors on Nick's behalf. He also did research on some college music programs for Nick and provided helpful insight. I was initially skeptical about Skype lessons, but other than occasional connectivity issues (which always resolved), it was an effective tool for teaching. We would certainly use his services again if we had the need.

Sean was willing to come over to our house for a very reasonable price. He is very kind, and my son loves him. He started teaching my son notes, and after he left my son already began practicing. We're looking forward for the next lesson.

Bob Driscoll has been teaching guitar to my son weekly for about 5 years. He is a wonderful instructor because he has passion for what he does and loves teaching. He teaches adults as well, but he is very good with children. He just connects with people of all ages. He cares about his students; in fact, he feels like a member of the family. In all the time that my son has been taking lessons, he hasn't complained about having to have a lesson. He enjoys Bob's method of instructor because Bob tailors his teaching to his students' abilities and needs. They have fun while learning, which means my son is still studying guitar at age 17 and enjoying it (having quit other extra-curricular activities after a year or so). My son is actually very good and played at his cousin's wedding. Bob is responsible, punctual and always helpful and enthusiastic. I couldn't be happier with his service over the years.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
