The only problem was that I told them while booking through the phone that I wanted to pay the movers by check, but the company charged my credit card the morning of the move, hours before the movers even arrived That being said, the movers themselves were very prompt, diligent, and polite, and most importantly, the price they quoted at the start was reasonable I would definitely recommend to others looking for reasonably priced movers

82 friends 17 reviews 4.0 star rating 12/29/15 I have a lot of good things to say about Dyno Moving and the movers who assisted me in my recent move from LIC to West Harlem on a gross rainy Thursday morning. I'll start with the the positives before explaining why they were docked an otherwise well-deserved 5-star review. THE GOOD: --Their prices are very reasonable. For 3 movers (very fast, efficient and qualified guys) and a van, I was quoted $75/hour for a 2 hour minimum and a $75 travel fee. I was only moving a studio's worth of stuff, and mostly everything was medium to medium-large sized -- no huge cabinets, sofas or anything like that, so I figured it would be finished quickly. Other companies quoted me upwards of $450 for 2 men and a truck, some were flat-rate or hourly. Either way, it was double the price almost every time. --They're very efficient. The job actually did get finished in 2 hours, even considering the light rain. Granted I went from a 2nd floor walkup to a ground floor apartment, but even so, I was pleasantly surprised. From start to finish -- including traveling from West Harlem and unloading, it took them 2 hours flat, for which I was very impressed. There was no stalling or chit-chatting, and they were loading things on their backs to bring down larger items and heavier boxes, meaning all 3 guys were pulling their full weight in labor. --They were friendly and professional. The movers were generally very friendly and did a great job taping things up and making sure things were packed properly if I hadn't taped it up as well myself. I appreciated their going the extra mile to make sure things were done well. THE BAD: --They were super late. For good reason, I had booked a 9 a.m. move for a Thursday when I should have otherwise been working. I planned on being at work as early as possible after my move, so I needed the move to begin on time. The night before I confirmed with the main manager/owner Alex for the 9 a.m. move. The next morning I waited until 9:30 a.m. before finally calling to get an ETA. No one really knew where the guys were and said they'd call back after talking to the dispatcher. I waited another 15 min or so, still didn't hear back. I called again and was told they were just leaving. I was eventually told it was because there was a ton of traffic, for which I could understand, but I explained that I had been waiting nearly an hour. I don't know if it's because there is no deposit or booking fee that they didn't seem to care much, but there wasn't much of an apology for this, which was really disappointing. If anything Alex told me that I "had to understand...it's the city," and that I "wasn't even paying for this time" which I also found kind of unprofessional. I wasn't heated about the situation but explained to him that while I understood that maybe his movers experienced unexpected traffic that morning, I was incurring a huge inconvenience because my move was starting so late and asked for a discount. He refused and then told me that "we could talk about it later." That didn't end up happening and I paid full price after multiple calls to confirm the movers' ETA and the move starting an hour late. Overall, I was impressed with the actual labor and experience but was disappointed with the management and customer service. I'd probably book again with them again should they offer a similar rate because it could've been much worse.

Seka was terrific. Easy to work with, responsive, and flexible. In the past, I've had horrendous experiences with movers-- and have even considered suing. Not the case with Sam and Seka. I rarely write reviews, but they deserve a laudatory one. Highly recommend them.

Fair price movers was one of the best moving companies that I have ever used. Their price was competitive and the quality of the movers was amazing. The movers showed up 20 minutes early, which was a plus for me because I had some serious time constraints, and They finished the entire process in about 3 hours. They were careful in handling my furniture and didn't damage anything. I would highly recommend fair price movers!

Finding Jeff and Raul was the best Christmas surprise/miracle I could have hoped for! These guys were SO careful--probably even more careful than me--moving my stuff: packing it and being careful not to scratch my hardwood floors. They took their time to do things right but didn't waste any time, either. They are clean, efficient, appropriately friendly and I will definitely use them again when I need help moving anything. They had moving blankets, helped me pack a few things. I really can't imagine better movers. They were great with working with my schedule and didn't give me a bad time when I only needed them to move a few things (which turned out to be a lot more things than I thought I had!). Their rate was excellent.

Movers were 30 min late, but were very apologetic and it didn't hinder the moving. Both were very polite and friendly. They were very very careful and surprisingly fast. I was extremely please. Communication with the company was shockingly fast--they're extremely responsive. Typically I would get a response within 5-10 minutes. They were as flexible as possible given my moving situation and the price was fair. Overall I am very very very pleased and if I move within the area again, I will definitely use these guys again if I can. Best moving experience I've had thus far.

Most movers are late and wishy washy and don't bother to keep you in the loop, at least in my experience. Well, we were scheduled for 9am, and not only were the crew from Tony's not late, they actually showed up a full half hour early, ready and raring to go. Here's how good these guys are. My wife and I had literally been up all night trying desperately to get everything packed but were woefully behind schedule. When Philip and his crew arrived, I explained to them we were late and to please just take everything that was packed, and we would just handle the rest ourselves the next day. As it is, we had grossly underestimated how many boxes we had, and were probably already over the number that our quote had been based on. Instead of being glad they'd have less work to do, Philip actually had his guys building boxes for us and encouraging us to just fill them while they worked so we'd have less to do ourselves the next day. I was exhausted and had already given up, but these guys literally motivated me to get a second wind and I must have given them a dozen extra boxes to take. Probably more. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking, ok, well this is gonna cost me. They have a flat rate, but we had exceeded the estimate by a large margin. These guys took a 220 lb CRT television like it was no big deal. Anyway, when the time came to pay up, a full five hours later, the price was unchanged. I can't imagine how much extra materials they burned through, but they didn't charge us a penny extra. Better, they had our TV wrapped in a blanket, and since our apartment was still pretty much under construction, they didn't want to unwrap it and leave it at risk, so they just gave us the blanket to keep so the TV wouldn't get damaged. This is the kind of place Tony's is, and Philip and his crew in particular. They were the nicest guys you can come across, never had one complaint or negative word to say. Oh, and about that price. It wasn't like some compromise where we decided to pay more for better service. This was a rock bottom price, by far the lowest estimate we could find. I can tell you at least one place estimated THREE TIMES the price. Another, well-regarded moving company quoted us double and said anyone who quotes less will upcharge you at the last minute when you have no choice. Not only did these guys not do that, but they had every opportunity to and chose not to. I really can't say enough good things about these guys. If you have any doubt whatsoever, drop it. I absolutely assure you they are the real deal. By far the best movers I have ever seen in action. I will use them exclusively going forward, and will recommend them to everyone I know who needs movers. You'd honestly be a fool to go with someone else. And I'd ask for Philip, personally, if I had to do it all over again. He wasn't just patient, but went out of his way to reduce our obvious stress. This is the place you want to go with, take my word for it.

My experience with KP Quality Movers was EXCELLENT. This was the ONLY moving company that agreed to give me a FLAT RATE. Everyone else wanted me to count every single item and box and we are talking an out of state, entire house move. Kris & Paul were friendly and professional. Their movers were also friendly and professional and they REALLY were doing their utmost best to provide excellent service. Kris was exceptional with detailed advice on how best to pack fragile items and he even gave us several new boxes including the pricey wardrobe boxes. For Price and Quality you will not find a better mover. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "KP QUALITY MOVERS" !!

Mr Mars was very responsive and timely in providing a quote, which he stood by. The movers were friendly, courteous and helpful. I had them wrap mattresses, which they did at a reasonable extra cost. Mars seems to be a solid organization that I would recommend for smaller, short distance movers like mine.

Hands down, best moving experience I’ve ever had- and I’ve moved a number of times. Tyler, the owner, is extremely responsive and conscientious. The two movers who arrived kept me in the loop as to their exact arrival time (as did Tyler, and they were even early per my request!), and were beyond polite and professional. I felt very comfortable having them move all my personal belongings and would probably only ever use them again. I strongly recommend you cancel the other movers you booked and book Beaumont instead!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
