My son's teacher recommended Arbor Tutors and we are very thankful. I'm very impressed with the quality and the education of the tutors. It's like everyone here has an Ivy League education.
Highly effective and individualized instruction. My daughter's ACT and SAT scores dramatically improved working with NJ Tutors, LLC.
Frank is awesome, gives clear direct instruction. He is very good with adults who have been away from math for a while.
Jay was probably one of the best tutors I have ever worked with. With most tutors, whether it be SAT prep or regular high school courses, the tutor takes the role of a teacher and treats me as a student. With Jay he made the environment a very casual one; we were not teacher and student, rather an adult and teenager working on SAT prep work. Jay is not trying to impress anyone and his very casual approach lets students fully connect with him and get the most out of the experience. I was never afraid to be wrong with Jay. I definitely believe he is the best tutor I could of possibly had for the SATs and I feel more than confident in my abilities to take them.
I have had the honor and privilege working with Mr. Davis in his role as the Algebra teacher in his employment with the Great Futures Charter High School. In every endeavor, through every challenge and in all situations, Mr. Davis has exhibited only the highest level of professional practice framed in a commitment to promoting the greater good. As former Principal and Director of Special and Alternative Education in the Hoboken Public Schools, I am certain that Mr. Davis’ professional and personal gifts would be an asset to anyone in need of mathematics instruction. Mr. Davis’ bright vision, High School Math expertise, keen intellect and incredible interpersonal skills afforded him not only the ability to asses needs and to identify barriers, but to also weigh, measure and integrate a purposeful plan to effectuate the kinds of shifts and leaps that were needed to achieve his goals, all centered in improving teaching and learning at GFCHS. Mr. Davis has an incredible skill set in bringing both instruction and knowledge, and the results of his efforts have been clearly evident in the development of the GFCHS Mathematics Program. Mr. Davis easily establishes a rapport with children, parents, staff and administrators. He is a loyal, passionate and caring person who inspires others to do better. He responds well to scheduling deadlines and is always prepared. In my over forty years in education, sixteen of which have been in school administration, I can honestly say that Joshua Davis is a standout. I am honored to offer this letter of recommendations on his behalf. Sincerely, Thomas Fitzgibbons
Five months ago, I felt that my five year old should have been further along with reading so I hired Sandy. With Sandy's 26 years of teaching experience, she provides a logical, methodical approach to teaching a child how to read. She also understands that kids, just like adults, can vary from day to day in their mood to learn and perform. She knows how to adjust to my daughter's mood to get the most out of the teaching session. Fast forward five months, I just got out of a parent teacher conference and my daughter has been assessed to be at the top reading level in her class. I give all of the credit to Sandy's way of teaching.
Absolute Game Changer! Highly Skilled, Impactful Teacher John began tutoring my daughter in math at the age of 12. Fast forward one year, I still can't believe that I was so lucky to have found the best, most substantive tutor who truly changed the trajectory of my daughter's academic path. After great success, we continued beyond math tutoring with SSAT prep. John’s talent for SSAT/SAT prep in all categories, particularly essay writing/structure, word problems, etc. was equally impressive. The guy is just amazing. Looking for a tutor can be a daunting task, particularly the first time around. After you do the research and due diligence, in the end, you still just take a leap of faith and hope you made the best choice for your child. What sold me on John was his education, his extensive tutoring experience, and the fact that his bio stressed his commitment to figuring out how your child learns and identifying the gaps in their understanding. This was the first issue John tackled and it didn't take him long to identify all the gaps in my daughter's understanding, bridge the gaps, bring her current with the classwork, and successful going forward. John's effectiveness comes from the fact that he possesses the instructional understanding & experience to give students all the necessary building blocks and a solid foundation. More importantly, he provides a visual understanding and strategic approach for how to tackle problems on their own. This is key. Everything John does is to prepare students to fly solo! Students learn how to recall building blocks when confronted with unfamiliar problems – great for confidence building. When John met my daughter she had a C-/D in math and things were quickly getting worse. She was strong in other subjects but lost in math. She convinced herself she wasn't good at math, didn't understand it, and that's just the way it was going to be. Then came John. Results count! My daughter earned an A in math for the year and her confidence has soared. She now thinks of herself as someone who can ace a math test, and she now understands what is taught in the classroom and is a better student overall. I asked my daughter to explain what specifically John does for her and why is he a good tutor. She made the following comments about her experience with John: • I can understand everything he explains and shows me how to do better than I can with my teacher. • He creates a visual picture for me that helps me understand problems and see the logic. (This is key!) • He teaches me about strategy and when to use it. • He constantly goes back and reviews and his reviews are really good. • He teaches me how to approach problems I don't think I understand at first but then I realize I do know what to do. • He is better than all my teachers. On a more personal note, I think John also made her feel good about herself. He has a quiet, understated demeanor and makes kids feel comfortable. He relates easily to kids and has an intuitive sense of what they need and how they learn. My daughter actually looks forward to every session. She wants to do well for herself and for John. They look at her homework and tests together and get ramped up for the next challenge. Outstanding teacher and outstanding outcome. John is truly a game changer! — Caroline 91 lessons
I think any adult who pays to study a test just goes to show how important the test is to the person who may be feeling uncertain about him/herself or perhaps some aspects of the test. Hence, I believe the greatest value of a tutor is his ability to motivate his students to the next level of learning and to feel confident in tackling the test. And that is exactly what I found in Fred. I was feeling apprehensive after attempting some questions on the mock GRE test. But now, with the support of Fred, I feel very confident and that confidence motivated me to want to do my very best. So from the bottom of my heart.. Thank you Fred for sharing my journey to a self actualisation need.
I contacted Robert after being impressed by his tutoring philosophy. Having only a few months of being tutored by him, the end result was getting to the 98th percentile from the 93 percentile for me. Robert is one of the most patient tutors I have ever had (I have received tutoring since 8th grade), and he explains everything clearly. Follow his logic and do not be afraid to ask any questions about anything. He is an expert on the whole organization of test prep, and he will provide you with the most useful websites for additional test prep. In addition, he is knowledgeable about other subjects as well, which is why I continue to seek his help with my issues in college such as time management and study skills. While working with Robert on the ACT we spoke about other areas of my education as well as my college plans. I came to realize that Robert took a sincere interest in my overall well-being, and consistently made suggestions that invaluable to me on many fronts. Within a few weeks I began to call upon him to help me with my educational plan and college applications. Together, we developed strategies to strengthen my application and Robert helped me to develop my college essays. We went through the trials and tribulations of the college application process, and every step of the way Robert was there to help guide me. Even today, as a freshman at an Ivy League university Robert was there to help me with course selection in addition to many of the challenges an incoming student faces on a college campus. One thing that struck me the most is his ability to understand people, especially how one person responds to different situations. This is important because he is able to understand what is exactly preventing someone from achieving the best of their ability. For example, there was a specific component that I was struggling with my coursework, and he helped me overcome that problem after identifying a specific study limitation that I did not know I had. Over time, he has become a mentor for me. Truly you will be very lucky to have Robert as a tutor because he goes above and beyond for you, and young adults need someone to guide them through difficult times.
In my life at age 40 I have met few people that have sacrificed the basics in their life and refinanced their own expenses- to be certain they have funding for making themselves completely available to dedicate their life teaching students. Yvonne has shown me every step of they way she is paving a new road for many kids and young adults. Even as an adult - you can learn a great deal from her by paying attention to her emotional intelligence and calm level headed approach to challenges in this life. Creating and finding alternative routes in problem solving and changing perspectives on how individuals learn and process information- is one of many talents she has to share. If anyone wants their life- or the life of their child to be enriched - Yvonne Thevenot will take anyone who tries to new level of achievement in any productive aspect of life they choose. As I have seen her progress with students of all ages I realize it is only a matter of time until her name is recognized nationally and internationally among educational leaders and organizations. It brings me a huge sense of hope for many lives without her, would remain unchanged in our future. It is a blessing that I personally know of her focus, drive and perseverance. The reward she gets is seeing others succeed at whatever they have the desire to do, because without her unique approach and guidance their lives would have remained unchanged and uninspired to be confident enough to reach for new heights.
