How much are cello lessons?

Cello lessons are a great way to anchor and guide your cello practice, regardless of your skill level. The cost of cello lessons will vary, depending on the reputation and experience of your teacher, the length and frequency of your lessons, and where you live. How hard is it to learn to play the cello?

Taking cello lessons can be a rewarding experience for students young and old. The rich sound of the cello is well-loved in classical music and is found in all genres of contemporary music from modern folk to rock. As with any instrument, how hard it is to learn to play cello depends on the practice and dedication you put into it. It’s true that some people are naturally more adept at learning instruments than others, but with lessons and a daily commitment, you too can learn to play the cello.

Cello lessons can be a smart investment, especially for new players. Even professional cellists benefit greatly from ongoing training, but for those new to cello it’s especially important for forming a strong foundation for playing. From the proper posture to understanding finger positions, regular cello lessons give you a benchmark to measure your daily practice against. With a professional cello teacher guiding you, the sky’s the limit.

I came to the cello as an adult beginner. I could not have found a better teacher than Juliette. I feel very fortunate. It is clear from the start that she is a superbly trained cellist with a keen eye for detail and a deep reservoir of patience. Even over Zoom, she’s able to pick out the beginnings of every bad habit. She makes herself available for questions in between lessons and is always ready with pointers and advice. I highly recommend Juliette as a cello teacher.

Vivian has been a fantastic cello teacher for my 10-year-old son. He picked up cello to join a strings program at school, but was a year behind his classmates. We wanted to get him up to speed quickly. He has ADHD and is not always the easiest to teach, but Vivian was patient and focused on helping him learn proper technique. He was frustrated at times, but she was able to bring him along and, in a few short months, he has gone from knowing very little to playing confidently with his classmates. Most important, he really looks forward to the lessons! We also took him to see Vivian play at Carnegie Hall, which blew him away. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
