We hired Giovanny for the replacement of our front porch steps, a large sidewalk area, driveway paving (remove asphalt and install concrete) and Belgian Block work in our garden areas. It was a very expensive undertaking, but we couldn't be more pleased with the results. He and his crew were here early every day and even worked on a Saturday. Including one day off due to rain, the entire project was completed in 10 days! They are hard workers and excellent craftsmen. We were delighted with the great job they did of cleaning up at the end of each day. I will post pictures as soon as our front railings and columns are reinstalled. We've received numerous compliments from our neighbors. If you need masonry work, call Giovanny! We highly recommend him!

If you need someone to take interest in your project, be dedicated, sincere and really complete the project on time look no further than Ruperto and his crew. He and his team are all service team from painting , installing flooring to installing Sheetrock to drywall to completing a basement to recess lighting. We had a very tight timeline and needed someone to work with us closely to finish the project. Ruperto was honest on things he can do, very straightforward , highly sincere ( worked weekends so he can complete the project) , very reasonable on prices and never said no. We just lucked out finding him and his crew. We started out asking him to paint the house and eventually knowing the kind of guy he is we had him renovate the whole house!! If not for him we would not have moved in on time. His work is great, he output is spot on and he is very involved in giving suggestions, ideas and where to buy materials. At the end of the day he is a genuine and a kind person who cares for his customers. Happy to share more details if required and one can contact me at chelgriy@gmail.com.

After a recent poor experience with a contractor on this site, we were a little gun shy! But James and his crews are definite pros. We had them install 2 vinyl tile and 1 ceramic tile floors. It was completed in the time he gave us. They were clean and courteous. And the work was done to our satisfaction. Will definitely hire him again

Mr. Lopez was prompt, communicated clearly and did a neat job right on schedule. The job included removing a deteriorated cellar ceiling, installing new sheetrock and painting a large and complex area of ceiling. It looks good and we appreciate that he was always on time and considerate.

Tom was very prompt and professional. His crew were nice, competent and tidy. His price was appropriate. He communicated in a timely way. Tom was able to assist in design ideas. I hired him for 2 paint jobs and ended up having him return for interior porcelain tiling and a brick porch repair. I highly recommend TNS.

9we were very impressed with Nertil when he came to give us our estimate. He was right on time, met our cat and dog, and told us exactly what would be needed to complete the job. We decided to use London Construction that same day. We made an appointment for 11/16. Nertill and his assistant arrived promptly and set to work. They completed the job quickly and professionally. Before he left, Nertil instructed me on the initial maintenance of our new tile flooring. Not only did the two of them clean up thoroughly, but the pyramid also swept our front steps. I intend to work with London again in the near future.

This company takes care of your property like it is their own. Honest, detail oriented, professional. Mold is serious and if you don't get it ALL removed, it will return. They used special products so the mold can't regrow. Bleach doesn't work. They repaired/replaced my bathrooms and kitchen. walls and flooring. They saved so many Sandy flooded homes. So many are forever grateful including me.

Sam was very courteous and knowledgeable of the work I was having done which was laying down laminate flooring. He not only does this but he is a jack of all trades. He works very well with you and always in contact. We both had some delays which more was on me , & he was very understanding. I would definitely recommend him and use him again. To sum it up...he was fantastic. That's very hard to find. I had a good feeling as soon as I met him, and I met with many.

Chris and his guys did a great job ripping up my rugs and installing vinyl plank flooring. From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with him. At our first meeting, He is very personable and honest. When he came to do the work, he worked quickly and meticulously. And when they were finished, they cleaned everything up and put all the debris out to curb, which the garbage men took the next day. I couldn’t be happier, and will definitely hire him again in the future!

Renovation to my kitchen was exceptional. The selection of new cabinets, flooring, appliances and the backsplash were guided by their professional experience. The workers were skilled and knowledgeable. Work was done in a timely manner and I look forward to using All Remodeling again in the near future when I renovate and update my master bath. I am satisfied with everything that was done.

Klarens and Izmir did quality work laying down laminate flooring, painting the whole apartment, and regrouting our bathrooms. They provided good suggestions throughout the job and were very responsive to our requests as well. They did miss our move-in deadline by a few days and were sometimes busy with other projects, but when they were here they worked hard, often quite late into the evening. Would hire again, especially if not under time pressure.

Martin Aranibar came to my house to give me an estimate. I already had the flooring which was vinyl and cork. I purchased the flooring online specifically because I was looking for pet-friendly flooring. Martin measured my living room and told me I had to order reducers to put around the fireplace and between the rooms without the flooring. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I found his quote reasonable so I ordered the reducers, received them within a week and booked the job the following Monday. The crew arrived around 8:30 a.m. and were finished by 1:30 p.m. They knew exactly what they were doing, did a fantastic job, cleaned up after themselves and brought the old carpet as well as any other debris out to my curb so it could be picked up the next morning by my trash collection company. During the instillation I received a message from their office to make sure the job was going well and after the work was completed I received another message asking if I was happy with the job advising me to contact them with any concerns or questions. I love my new floor and when I have the funds to buy more flooring I will not hesitate to hire Toscano Flooring to do the job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
