My younger son takes guitar lessons with Frank Enea every week. He works really well with kids and my son loves his lessons. It is easy to see how much Frank loves music and seeks to instill that same love of music in his students. He is able to quickly assess what works and what doesn't work for each individual student and tailor his approach to the student in a way that works best for him or her. He was also able to refer my older son to a great flute teacher.
I studied saxphone and Jazz Music Theory privately with Allan for 5 years. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding Saxophone and Flute technique and also has a great familiarity with the piano. But aside from his technical excellence, he is outstanding teacher which in many ways is more important than technical knowledge. This means he can explain concepts and provide examples that are appropriate for a student's playing level which allows them to progess in a linear fashion, maintain their interest in music and bolster their confidence. He is also very patient, supporitve and enthusiastic about music; characteristics that are so important in creating a constructive learning environment. I highly recommend him.
David Markowitz is an exceptional musician and teacher. Throughout my eight years as his student, he expanded my musical horizons, especially with regards to classical, jazz, and Irish flute, and nurtured my lifelong love for music. David consistently pushed me to the limits of my technical abilities, expanded my knowledge of music theory (jazz and classical), and helped me develop my skills in improvisation and performance. I was inspired by the diverse selection of music that he brought to our lessons. Whether we were rehearsing a movement from Carmen Fantasy, sight-reading a bebop duet, or learning an Irish reel, he taught with deep knowledge of technique and historical context. He additionally helped me prepare for my NYSSMA festival solos throughout middle and high school. David supported my musical interests with challenging material and was personally invested in my growth as a musician.
Kevin has been my sax teacher for three years. I have a lesson once a week. He is a great music teacher--he knows how to teach. He only points out mistakes when he knows you are the level where you will be able to fix them. I am making great progress with him, week by week. I am always looking forward to our lessons. You will too. Moshe
I have been studying music and learning to play the saxophone with Mary for a year. I have been through many music teachers in my life as I used to play the piano since i was 10 years old. Most of the music teachers I have found are only interested in teaching how to play the instrument. Mary not only teaches the finer things about your instrument of choice but brings to it her overall knowledge of music theory, holistic studies, and her love of God and is able to wrap it all together where you know without a doubt music is definitely a gift from God. The one thing that truly amazes me about Mary is she takes the time to gets to know you, your personality, what techniques enable you to learn the best, your experiences and background and is able to intertwine it with her knowledge and experience and brings about a whole new understanding that I have never experienced before with other music teachers. What touches me the most and demonstrates that Mary really is concerned about the individual coming to a wonderful understanding about music is that she prays for each of her students before a lessons and ask God to help her communicate what that particular person needs to understand that day and how through music she can glorify our Lord and Saviour. I truly am blessed to find and work with Mary. She definitely brings about a whole new world in music.
My son has been taking flute lessons now for over a year. He is musically inclined . Loves to play , has played piano as well for 4 years. The marker of a good teacher is keeping the enthusiastic student enagaged. Challenging them to do better , play better , practice more. It takes a calm, persistent, gentle person to teach music , and my son is blessed to have such a teacher in Ms. Amy. Well worth the time and effort. His tunes make me tear up.
I find Ms. Steckler an outstanding music teacher. Patient, enthusiastic and nurturing. Ms. Steckler conveys a deep knowledge and communicates a profound love of music. We adore her.
I give my students support and encouragement as they learn all about music and musical styles. If they would like to, they have the opportunity to play in seasonal recitals and also at retirement communities.
