My Wife and I have had a wonderful experience with Scott. We were going through a rough patch, and decided for the first time that we should seek outside help. It was one of the best decisions we could have made. As it was our first time in therapy we were both nervous going in, and didn't really know what to expect. Scott quickly eased our nerves, and we were able to make progress right away. His adaptive methodology has suited as well. He has a keen focus our needs, and has been able to adjust on the fly to address whatever it is we're going through in the moment. Even though we're back on a great trajectory, we still look forward to continuing our sessions with Scott. We always leave feeling better, and having learned something to apply to our relationship. We highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their relationship!

Terry is a phenomenally gifted therapist who guided me through the darkest point in my life. Intuitive, caring, authentic and wise beyond words, she held a strong, safe container for me to fall apart during and after my divorce and put myself and my family back together. Her deep presence allowed me to trust her as my guide, and I consider her an angelic arrival in my life. My ability to co-parent smoothly with my ex-husband and raise two healthy well adjusted kids is due to the work we did together during our break up and directly after. If you are ready to release your grief and sorrow and step into a full, juicy, amazing life, Terry will be there with helping hands and open heart.

I have chronic pain in my hip and neck. Dr. Clark was very attentive to my specific needs. One of the bonuses of treatment from a chiropractor is that he could feel where I was having sympathetic pains that I didn't even tell him about. It's more than just a knowledge of basic anatomy. The difference is an understanding of the musculoskeletal system and his holistic approach. For the first time in months, I am pain free (48 hours and counting without my pain medication!)

Dana is one of those rare gems of a therapist; she has her heart fully engaged and has the amazing insight and intuition to be able to help you where you need it most. I've referred at least 5 clients to her-my closest and dearest family and friends- and had incredible feedback. She is very loved! Her intelligence shows in her gentle, caring therapeutic processes. She walks her talk; again I find this to be very rare. I trust her completely and feel 100% at ease sharing anything. She has great empathy and is extremely supportive. I highly recommend her for any situation. You will not be disappointed.

Shantika is very kind & professional - I was very skeptical of this whole Reiki thing, though I've been investing quite a bit of time into learning about energy healing through books, the internet, other people, etc. I was really hoping for something, but not expecting and, likely, not believing anything could actually happen. I've been living with SEVERE pain for years that has been life-altering in innumerable ways & realized this morning, when starting to cry, I had suddenly stopped, looked down at my wrists, and realized that I was not feeling the agonizing (hell-ish) pain that becomes especially bad when I become emotional. My body has felt incredibly odd ever since, which I'm thinking might be what it feels like to be in less pain than I have become so use to over so many years. It has been only one day, so I don't know what to think or make of it all quite yet, but so far this one day has felt pretty unreal...Not pain-free, but something is definitely changed & I will absolutely be going back.

There are so many counselors, healers, therapists, lifestyle gurus and professional advice-givers out there that it's easy to feel overwhelmed by all the choices. As a mother of three, I've spent who knows how much time and money looking for effective support for my family's health, only to find superficial, time consuming programs that may produce short-lived results (that require constant re-upping to maintain any effectiveness), but never really get to the heart of what we need. Nothing I've tried has come close to the kind of immediate, deep affect that working with Krista has provided. Her methods are so gentle and intuitive that it's hard to believe the powerful results. Within a week of our first hour-long session, my energy and sense of well-being were raised dramatically. I felt clearer and more confident in my body's ability to heal and was amazed when the results started reaching beyond the original issue for which I had sought her out. Five years later, I don't hesitate to turn to Krista first for all of my and my family's health questions, from nutrition to mental/emotional and relationship dilemmas. Her compassionate manner and truly holistic approach have given me the support I've needed to overcome blocks and reach my goals, without the confusing and often guilt-inducing yo-yo effect I've experienced with other practitioners. She understands that our lives aren't cookie-cutter and our issues aren't compartmentalized, and so is able to invest in the whole client and get to the actual root of a problem, instead of just temporarily easing the symptoms. If you've tried all the healthy living fads, diet programs, all the different therapies, alternative and conventional, and are still feeling stuck, please set up an appointment with Krista, and get ready for a breakthrough!

I'm committed to the best possible care for my clients. To me this means that I'm focused not only on outcomes but also process - ensuring that clients feel as though they are progressing towards their goals, that they are learning about themselves and their relationships, and that they are gaining and implementing effective tools for life. I want to make sure that what we do together is sustainable, realistic, and achievable. When obstacles appear, I'm not afraid of identifying and tackling them in order to reduce the chances of falling back into old, destructive patterns. Finally, I have a high standard for the work that I do because I recognize that others' lives and relationships are being affected by the counseling process.

I offer massage therapy sessions from 60 minutes to 120 minutes. Relaxation massages are available, and many upgrades are available as well.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

    • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
    • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
    • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
    • Overcoming addictions.
    • Managing chronic illness.
    • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

    • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
    • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
    • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
    • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
    • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
    • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
    • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
    • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
    • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
    • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
    • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
    • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
    • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
    • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
    • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
    • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
    • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
    • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
    • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

    How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.
