I was very impressed with the rapid response to my request for help with my project. Zeev called right away and came to my house the very next day to assess the damage done by birds that had pecked through the mesh covering the vents under the eaves of the roof and were pulling insulation out of the attic. He was on the job a few days later and within a few hours had all the vents recovered and eliminated my bird issue. He was very professional and very reasonable. I will definitely be calling him again.

Thought I paid to much for work performed. But I do not have a good basis for that judgement due to lack of experience hiring work to be done. Arrived next morning. Did job quickly and cleaned up afterwards. Pleasant to work with. Did everything needed. Did no damage to roof. Cleaned gutters, swept off roof, installed drain screens. (I specifically did not allow pressure washing.) Glad I hired someone to do this as I am now too clumsy to move around on the roof. I have fallen off my ladder 3 of the last 5 times I have used it. So anything over about 8 feet high I should get someone else to do it.

I had a leaking roof around a vent pipe. I made an appointment for an estimate and they came out on time, made an accurate and good estimate, and did the repairs within 2 days. They did the repairs and took photos to allow me to review their work. They far exceeded my expectations and I was very satisfied with their work. The leak was immediately fixed.

Professional and able to handle any extra issues uncovered after removing flooring from a toilet leak. Fixed a drain pipe in crawl space, connected dryer vent and unclogged it in crawl space, installed better support for bathroom floor, leveled out bathroom floor, fixed the toilet leak, replaced flooring with new vinyl, and textured parts of exposed bare drywall due to the floor being leveled out.

Serge and Alex are excellent at their work and do a very high quality job. I had a very complicated mess with a roof leak that destroyed my stucco and all the supporting beams. They fixed everything on time and under budget. I would highly recommend their company and service. They went out of their way to get things done in a timing fashion and came back again to make sure everything was perfect.

Don was great. Very communicative about what he's doing, when he's doing it and, as an added bonus, how it all works. I really appreciated that he coordinated much of the process with NW Natural. And then there were little things, like adding a light in the furnace room or offering to fix the broken attic opening where the furnace vents. All around, a great experience where I didn't have to worry about anything.

We are so pleased with our Koala-T Exteriors experience! A rep showed up at our door offering free roof inspections & estimates. It just so happened that we were in dire need for a new roof so I took him up on the free apt. I was impressed that the apt was same day. The rep who came to our house, Jarrett Rheaume, was very professional and friendly. He went over all the details and answered all our questions. Jarrett made the whole process easy and comfortable. We were blown away by the fact that our roof could be finished within the next week! And to top it all off, we are impressed by the 50 Year/lifetime warranty, which is transferable to new owners if we ever decide to sell. It was also a pleasure speaking with Dustin (owner) over the phone regarding our questions about financing. The group of guys who completed our new roof were respectful of our home and made sure to clean up all materials. They finished our roof in 2.5 days and it looks amazing! Also, we now have more roof vents which will make a huge difference in keeping our house the right temp. No more stressing about the roof for many years to come. Thank you Koala-T Exteriors team for a great experience, a quality roof, and your professionalism.

I was recommended A Team Construction by my brother when I had a leak in my roof and needed it taken care of quickly. Allen came out and we discussed options of color and style for our new roof and scheduled a date. Not only were they fast but I had chosen a different color shingle then what I previously had, which meant the vent caps would no longer match, Allen had recommended I change them for a more uniform look but I didn’t want to spend the extra money, (I had a new baby at home and money was tight) so he went to the hardware store and bought matching paint to cover the vents at no additional charge because it was his name on the work and he wanted to put forth a good final product. I highly recommend A Team Construction and I will for sure be using them for future remodels.

Great company to deal with. They did exactly what they promised in a single day. Replaced all the sheeting since the old stuff had black mold on it; followed up with some nice architectural shingles. I particularly appreciated the fact that the guys protected the plants that were around our house, plus our heat pump. After all the work was done, they used a rolling magnet all around the house to make sure any stray nails were out of our yard and away from our one and three-year-old boys. Thanks so much for all the super effort! UPDATE: I've since had Cascade work on our second house, and their work was again superior. Arturo (foreman) explained everything that he was doing, and went beyond what was promised. He and his crew installed new roof vents since the current bath fans weren't even hooked up. They even noticed that the chimney wasn't properly sealed around the flashing, so they cleaned that out and sealed it properly. Overall, their work is excellent and they DON'T cut corners. A+ work yet again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
