I needed someone experienced with light switches and wiring to help me figure out how to connect a porch light switch. The wires were in the wall, but I wasn't sure which ones they were. Someone had instead installed a pair of switches for a fan/overhead light. He figured it out, which was great. He even went to the hardware store and picked up a switch. However, it didn't match the color of the other switch next to it, and he didn't seem willing to go again and get one to match. Communication seemed to be the issue, not his knowledge. So, four stars for doing the most important part of the job I needed, but one star off because, for the amount I paid, I'd really have liked it if he'd realized they should match, gotten two switches of the same color, and hooked them up. I had to make two trips to the hardware store to get the right switches, a time consuming process.
I asked Chris Wilhelm of Compass Home Repair and Renovation to install a utility sink in my basement. I had recently done a renovation restoring a bedroom, bathroom suite along with adding a washer and dryer for a a tenant. I didn't think about a utility sink, as part of that renovation which is a useful thing to have for larger and dirty clean-up projects. I only had a sink. There was no drain, no spigot or faucets. He dropped by my home to get an idea of the job's specifics and returned a week later. Chris installed the sink with a few hiccups along the way (such as trying to figure out how to turn off the water--not his fault--the recent plumbing was unlike anything he'd ever encountered. The sink works beautifully, and he integrated it next to the washer/dryer without taking up any additional space in this storage area. Best of all is the hose attachment, which insures that hard-to-reach spaces can be reached without effort. I've already hired Chris to do some restoration of my porch steps, which is due to be done this Saturday.
Took out our old front porch and built a new one (new design). Brant's craftsmanship is fantastic! He was easy to work with, offered great ideas and added in little details like wrapping the bottoms of the posts to make it all look very finished. John is responsive to phone calls and text messages. Honest and fair pricing!
I posted on Thumbtack about a light fixture I needed hung and a switch installed on my front porch. Dan got back to me immediately and was at my house literally two days later. He arrived 25 minutes EARLY and did a clean and seamless installation of the switch, along with hanging the fixture perfectly. He also picked up some bulbs from the local store to test the fixture for us. I am so used to people never calling back, showing up late or not at all and charging for wasted time that someone like Dan is an anomaly! I am going to hire him for all of our future electrical needs and definitely recommend him!!
Richard and crew got our porch fixed in no time. They came out less than a week after we got the bid and were really flexible with our work schedules. The porch roof no longer leaks and our deck has been cleaned and treated - driveway got cleaned, too. We'll be working with them again soon, I'm sure!
thanks Jon Front porch looks a lot better now
Logan updated porch posts and railings at my home. He was very pleasant to work with and a good communicator. I'm very happy with the results of his carpentry work.
Lino did an excellent job power washing and painting my front porch. He was very responsive, communicated with me about when he would be there, and did a thorough job. I would definitely hire him again.
ABC built a very large covered porch for us. Travis suggested stamping and coloring the concrete and we couldn't be happier! We now enjoy a patio that looks like a marbled color of slate. It's gorgeous and we thank ABC for a great job and competitive price.
We met with several people about staining our fence, and were very impressed with Duane. He was one of the few people who came out prepared with a measuring wheel to measure the fence himself, he had his license number on the quote, and he seemed to really know what he was talking about. We were so impressed with Duane that we asked him to come out and stain our front porch as well. He seems to have knowledge well beyond painting, so I intend to keep his information on hand. I feel confident that when he agrees to take on a project he won't settle for anything less than doing a phenomenal job.
Did a great job with pavers and concrete driveway. Would hire them again, for sure.
Tim and his guys replaced our front stairs and small front porch, sanded and stained the handrails, power washed the back deck and back stairs and applied penetrating oil to all the stairs and both decks. We are very happy with the workmanship, and Tim is a pleasure to deal with. All of the work was performed per the agreed-upon schedule, at the agreed price. He and his crew are punctual and neat. When they were done, the only thing they left behind was a fine job.
We met Dewayne from Finish First over the winter. We were looking to add some character to our downtown Vancouver home that had been rebuilt by the previous after a fire in 2001. The home just didn't quite fit. We had other contractors quote us ridiculous prices to pretty mush rip everything down and start from scratch. That would have been both wasteful and expensive. When Dewayne arrived, he was the most creative at coming up with ways to give the house a facelift that would be both impactful and budget conscious. My favorite thing by far is the cedar ceiling he put on our covered front porch. I would have never thought to do that and it's beautiful. The cedar ceiling and the updated columns on the porch really changed the profile of the home. In addition to that he custom designed metal hand rails for the front steps (we didn't have any before and it made me nervous!) the rails complement the home and are very sturdy. We also had them put nice wide trim on the windows, singles, corbles, a new front door, and two coats of some very overdue paint. Not to mention some concrete work to fix our sidewalk and build a small retaining wall to level out the front yard. Quite the transformation. We're looking forward to having Finish First back for some additional projects. Dewayne and Mike are really upstanding guys and we'd be happy to recommend them to anyone. In fact, we already did and they are doing some custom cabinetry work for one of our friends.
Geoff was great. Estimates were accurate and honest. The work was finished in a timely manner. Easy to communicate with when there were options to consider about my porch. Very knowledgeable and when we found surprises (wood rot!!), provided several alternatives for a range of prices. Flexible and accommodated my reuse/repurpose ethic. I will work with Geoff and his team again for sure and on bigger projects as well.
You can't go wrong with Sector 5 Pro. They built a wonderful back porch for us. I can't say anything the least bit negative about this company. Would recommend highly.
I had Alex and GeorgeWorks replace our front porch with ipe wood. His estimate was very reasonable and the quality of work was superb. He was prompt and professional in his communications and he and his father were able to complete the work in one day. I noticed that removing and replacing the existing framing wasn't necessary, it could have been used again (a lesser contractor may have)--Alex on the other hand, not only replaced it, but did so with a better quality wood because it was the prudent thing to do considering the predicted longevity of the ipe wood. Thank you! Also missing from the existing deck was flashing--some contractors would opt to leave it that way when replacing the porch, but Alex decided to install a good quality flashing, again, without changing his original estimate. I very much enjoyed working with Alex. He is friendly, professional, uses high quality materials and he and his father take pride in their work--rightfully so! I'm loving our beautiful new porch.
I hired Upwards Construction to rebuild my front porch. David and his team are professional and easy to communicate with. He provided me with several choices in his bid and built exactly what I wanted. My new porch is beautiful.
We have wanted a covered entrance to our house for years. We called the builders we trust most: Built in Oregon. They found an architect who specializes in houses built around 1940 and she designed an addition that looks original to the house. The original plans called for a wooden, painted hand-rail down the front steps. We wanted a cedar railing. Andrew and his team built it custom on site; it is period-true. It is absolutely gorgeous. People walk by our house now and stop to comment on its beauty. What I love about Built in Oregon is how well they communicate and how fair they are. They respect my budget and do hand-crafted, superior work. They are respectful of my property and clean the work site every day. I have nothing but the highest praise for them and will look to them any time to do work on our house.
Brittany redesigned our front yard this past summer. Her design blueprint and consultation were professional and well thought out. She combined our design aesthetics and requests with her landscape expertise all in one affordable package. Brittany even contacted a local fence builder and oversaw the design and installation of a custom fence for our yard. We have had so many compliments and we couldn't be happier with our beautiful new yard! I would recommend Brittany and Blueprint Earth Collective to all of my friends - and I have!
Jim and Paul Meyers are brothers and it is a family business. They do all the work themselves and their craftsmanship is excellent. The wood they used was top quality. Jim and Paul were great at listening to my idea and making it happen. They will give you suggestions but never try to force you into anything. I was really nervous about hiring someone. A large deck and front porch is an expensive project. I had 6 different contractors come out, including a family friend. So glad I chose Jim and Paul. I will be using them again for a project this summer.
Had my front porch deck painted and it looks great. Already received several compliments.
