I almost hate to give this rating for fear that Allen will get so busy he won't have time to help me out when I need it. As a real estate agent, I come across many service providers and I have to say that Allen was the best to work with. He did an excellent job on short notice and worked very hard to accommodate a difficult schedule. Thank you Allen! I will definitely use your services again!

We didn't end up hiring Jon for the job we were looking to get done. It ended up being more of a discussion about what our options were and an estimated bid price. We felt that our project of wall-mounting our 70" TV over the fireplace, concealing wires, etc... might be better suited for someone who specializes in more high-tech wiring solutions. Primarily because we need to have a new electrical outlet installed above the fireplace as well, in order to truly hide wires. This seems to be a little tricky. However, he did stay in contact leading up to our meeting at every point he said he would. Very punctual, reliable, friendly, and most importantly: honest. I would much rather have someone be upfront with what they are capable of, rather than saying what they think you want to hear. THAT is the sign of a trustworthy handyman. I have no doubt he could have gotten the job done, and done well, but we were looking for more than a basic wall mount & regular wiring/installment of components. Based on all of the qualities I stated above, I would recommend him & would even contact him again for other projects.

Reasonably simple flat-panel mounting project, but required more physical skill and more hands than I've got. He was prompt, courteous, professional, responsive and did an excellent job in the time stated for the price quoted. Can't ask for more than that.

Lino was hired to remove a large 4ft x 6ft double casement window on second story, and replace with a new vinyl window. We purchased the window and he took care of the removal and installation. He worked quickly and did a great job. internal and external trim was replaced and painted. This was a difficult installation because of it's location, but Lino came prepared with all the necessary tools, multiple ladders, and even picked up some of the trim materials for me. Additionally he replaced 6 flush mount lights in our home with new remodel recessed light cans, and relocated an outlet and low voltage to another wall in our house for a new TV installation. Electrical and drywall repair were excellent. Lino is a bit quiet, and will not try to sell you on anything you don't need. At first, I was not sure if I had hired the right person, but very quickly found I was wrong. Lino is quite handy at multiple jobs, very clean and punctual, and trustworthy. I would recommend him for many other similar jobs.

Great experience working with Vincent. Honest man and knows his job really well. He wall mounted a tv for me and did the job pretty quickly and charged a fair price for it. I'd surely hire him again to do other stuff around the house if required. Really happy with the work.

My wife and I just purchased our first home in Happy Valley. The home came with a wall mounted 55" LED TV mounted above the fireplace. We purchased a soundbar that didn't quite fit underneath the TV. Dan at R&D AV was actually gave us the best estimate for re-mounting the TV to fit in the soundbar. Dan communicated very well and quickly via e-mail and phone. He showed up early (after calling to make sure it was okay), verified what I wanted to have done and, took some measurements and got it all done in an hour or so. He cleaned everything up and the setup looks great!

Roman basically transformed our entire house! He painted every room inside (walls and ceilings) and the outside trim, as well as fitting in some roof maintenance at the same time. He put in new flooring in each of the bathrooms, along with toilets, vanities, and new light fixtures. He painted and installed baseboards thoughout the ground floor, including some quality touches where the edges were rounded. When we moved to the kitchen, he installed each of our appliances (including mounting the new sink under the countertop). What was turning into an incredible (and expensive) headache when we were trying to set up a purchase of granite countertop ourselves was eased when Roman helped coordinate the purchase from quote to destruction and cleanup of the old formica counters to installation and fitting of the new. I could probably go on to describe other quality touches but the bottom line is this. Roman understood our goal was to prepare the house for sale, and advised us what we should and shouldn't do to maximize our investment. He could have made more money off us, but was clearly concerned with our getting the most bang for our buck. The cost was reasonable and the bonus: he is one of the most detail-oriented people I have seen. And a nice person too. By the time most people have finished with their contractor, there is usually a negative relationship because of dissatisfaction with the work, the pace, and/or the quality. Didn't happen with Roman.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What should you do with a broken LCD TV?

Nationally, the average price range for TV repair is $60-$90. LCD TV repairs are one of the most common TV repair requests. A liquid crystal display (LCD) TV uses the same technology as your smartphone and most computer screens. Images are created on an LCD screen by electric currents that pass or block light through liquid crystals that are encased between two polarized, glass-like sheets. LCD TVs can be very thin and are relatively affordable, making them one of the most prevalent types of TV on the market. If you have a broken LCD TV, it can probably be repaired. Common problems that can be repaired include a blank screen, sound issues, power problems and digital connection problems. Here is one example of LCD TV repair cost:

  • 55-inch Samsung LCD TV repair: $150, including parts and labor
    • The LCD was intermittently powering up and powering off. The main circuit board was removed and replaced.

Can you fix a flat screen TV?

Yes, you can usually fix a flat screen TV. Whether you have a plasma, LED, OLED, HDR, HD or even LCD, TV repair pros can repair your TV. Flat screen TVs are expensive, and when they stop working it can make your heart stop. But TV repair technicians have advanced along with TV technology and are equipped with the proper tools and training for major and minor repairs. If your flat screen is too massive to transport, most repair companies have pickup and drop-off service. For the most common problems, TV repair pricing might range between $175 and $200 on average. Here are examples of the most common problems:

  • Power problems: The TV won’t turn on or will not stay on once started.
  • Digital problems: All connections are in place but you’re not receiving any signal.
  • Sound problems: There is no sound, the volume doesn’t respond to attempts to raise or lower it, or the volume is inconsistent.
  • Screen problems: The TV is on but there is no picture.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.
