Hire Dan, you will not be disappointed! I could not be more pleased with the quality of work and how pleasant and easy to work with Dan is. I found him very knowledgeable and competent about what he does. He arrived as he said he would, and completed the job quickly and efficiently in the time estimated. His quote was also right on. I am busy making a list to have him come back and do some more work in the house. Dan remodeled a small bedroom to be use as an office. He changed it from a deep color to a fresh light peach and blue. He took the needed steps to get a smooth, even coverage. He added a room fan, where there was no fixture, removed wall-to-wall carpet, and installed a laminate wood floor. He was careful to cover the entryway and stairs as they were going in and out in “the winter weather”. He accommodated a couple of unexpected little extra things that came up while he was here. I really am loving my new room and will continue to hire Dan as needs arise.

Mark helped us get our house ready to be put on the market. He completely remodeled our bathroom along with our kitchen. On top of installing tile floors and back splash he helped with many other projects. Once we sold our home we had him install vinyl plank flooring in our new house. He is reliable and gets the job done in a timely manner. Mark is very friendly and easy to work with. I highly recommend!!!!!

David installed basement steps and door in my very old home and both are excellent. He installed them exactly how I requested. After seeing how great of a carpenter he is he installed laminate flooring in livingroom and dining room with excellent trim work- remember house is very old and nothing is level. Both rooms look beautiful. I certainly recommend David especially for his professionalism- he's on time, works hards and truly respects others.

We discovered mold in the basement wall and underneath laminate floor few weeks after we moved into our new house. Unfortunately this was missed by the home inspector. We had redo the full basement (1350 sq ft). This included dry wall, new ceramic tile, fireplace, theatre room, electrical work etc. Tim helped us during this painful times. He was able to find the source of the problem (water leak) which I think needed a lot patience and detective work. He always gave us a honest opinion and has a vast wealth of knowledge that you can not get on the internet. Not only is he pleasant and personable, but a stickler for perfection. He followed up on every last detail until the job was completed. The result was outstanding as we now have a basement with a very modern look. Since then we used his services numerous times and also refered him to my friends who shared a similar opinion.

Mark and his crew installed a beautiful white vinyl fence in a day-and-a-half. Mark was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and had a "can-do" attitude. The guys he had working were also quite professional and extremely hard workers and very respectful to my family members. They were fussy, in a good way, and spent time making sure the job was done right. Simply put, they took pride in their work. In addition, they were able to work around problems such as digging through annoying roots without adding any additional costs. I was especially impressed with Mark checking in to make sure everything was getting done right and pitching in when his crew needed an extra hand. Probably the best compliment I can give and something I feel potential customers should hear is that Mark is a man who keeps his word. When he says he will show up at a certain time, he does. When he gives a price quote, he sticks to it. If you were like me and worried about finding an honest contractor, put your mind to rest--Mark Immel is your man! I will definitely use Mark and Total Home Maintenance in the future.

The job entailed replacing damaged boards in the middle of a large floor of laminate flooring. Thought not the least expensive, his experience, timeliness, and courtesy easily made him the right choice for the job.

Hiring Gary and complete flooring concepts was an awesome experience. From his initial estimate , he walked me through the process that it would take to go from my old linoleum floors to some upgraded luxury vinyl tile.He gave recommendations on products that were built to last but wasn’t pushy. True professionals, and I can’t wait until he does my 2nd floor carpet replacement. He’s my “go to” flooring guy now!

I could not be more happy with the product and installation provided by Len Pritchett, owner of Floor Coverings International! I purchased carpet, laminate and ceramic tile. Len provides incredibly helpful customer service and the three different installers were some of the best I have ever experienced! I will definitely use this company again and highly recommend Floor Coverings International to everyone!

We’ve leveraged the experienced professionals at G.S. Flook for multiple jobs during our transition from our old house to our new house, from vinyl siding and outdoor deck maintenance & repair to custom electrical work and indoor entertainment room design & consultation. We couldn’t possibly be happier with every job completed by the G.S. Flook team – they clearly take pride in their work and walked us through every step of the process while providing guidance and recommendation as needed. We appreciated the fact that they are perfectionists who won’t settle for anything less than superior quality in every way. In addition to their professionalism, the other reason we have recommended and will continue to recommend G.S. Flook to all of our friends and family is their personal touch that separates them from other companies we have used in the past. They exuded trust, kindness and generosity in every single interaction with me and my family. We look forward to doing business with them again in the near future.

Mr. Marshall does commercial and residential jobs. I have utilized Mr. Marshall’s services for many projects including plumbing, carpentry, and heat pump problems. In my kitchen he has installed a dishwasher, stove, new sink and faucet, a water filter system, a vinyl floor and also painted and caulked the walls. He also replaced two water damaged doors with new handmade cabinet doors that matched the existing doors perfectly. In my bathroom he installed a new vanity, faucet, toilet, medicine cabinet, custom shelving, a shower rod, and done repairs to the tub and shower faucet. Other jobs he has done for me include installing a central vac which I love, replaced and relocated my water heater to a more suitable location in my home, completed a beautiful tile job in my entry way and deck repair. Mr. Marshall is skilled with his work and is a problem solver. He has been able to complete difficult jobs that other contractors weren’t willing or able to complete for me and also for friends who I referred him to. He is skilled at dealing with inspectors, permitting and is able to cut through the red tape involved in dealing with county organizations. As a single woman I trust him to do the work I need fairly and correctly and I have referred him to several friends who have also become repeat customers. He has done basement waterproofing, well/septic repairs, and ran gas lines for friends of mine. I highly recommend his services

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
