Anna has been tutoring my two nine-year-old twins in writing and reading comprehension since September of this year. She works to help them develop their ideas and improve their writing skills by assigning them readings along with writing assignments. She challenges my kids to understand the deeper messages in books and to define new words and literary devices. She comes prepared to every session on time and with personalized lesson plans. Notably, she helps my kids with occasional homework and test taking strategies. Anna is a kind and caring tutor who enjoys the personal aspects of tutoring and takes on challenges of teaching. She understands the strengths and the weaknesses of my kids and patiently inspires them to grow and persevere. I understand that in addition to English Anna also does tutoring in Math. You will be very pleased with her tutoring style and her personality.

Cheryl is the best English teacher I've ever had. When I came to the USA from Russia, the biggest surprise was the language barrier. I had been studying English since middle school, always had good grades, and I thought I was pretty good in English. Real-life English was clearly different from what I’ve been taught. I didn't understand common idioms and casual expressions, and, most importantly, I was too afraid to speak. Luckily, I took a speaking conversational English class taught by Cheryl and then a couple of private lessons with her. Cheryl is a patient, organized and understanding tutor. She is a great conversation partner and always asks what you are interested in. She focused on my individual needs and encouraged me speak more and express my opinion freely. Also she taught me tons of useful expressions and answered all my stupid questions about American culture :) Of course, my English isn’t perfect, but I see tremendous improvements and I am much more confident about my speaking.

About

Hi, there! My name is Kevin, and I would be happy to help you (or your student) further develop your written and spoken English skills. I've got a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Binghamton University, as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Clarks Summit University. My academic background along with a very friendly, patient, and thorough teaching style have allowed me the opportunity to work with both young children and adults. I offer: Beginning reading and writing skills for young learners. I would be happy to discuss, and work with your goals for your student's advancement. Essay/paper review and help on revision to improve writing. This includes help on grammar and argument formation (logical flow). For speakers of other languages, I provide written and spoken English help. This includes grammar, vocabulary, correct word usage and pronunciation. My students have enjoyed my flexibility in both creating exercises to direct lessons while also being willing to "go with the flow" when the student wants to take the lessons in another direction. In other words, my end goal is your improvement. So, where do you want to go from here?
