"At first, I was as hesitant to hire an online personal trainer. I had never used any type of trainer before, and I was nervous that I'd be stuck with all sorts of exercises that I had no idea how to perform. After I had a phone consultation with Christiana of Wolfess Fitness, I felt much more comfortable, but I still didn't know what to expect. When I started my first workout, I was thrilled to see how easy the process is! She offers an easy-to-use app that outlines the workouts and she even hand picks videos to show you how to do moves with correct form. In the app, you are able to communicate with her to discuss what you like/don't like, any questions about form, etc. She was very quick to respond and always checked in with me to see how I was doing. She is able to resolve any issues or concerns I have about my workouts, and goes above and beyond to help me stay motivated! Last summer, I went on 3 big vacations in a 2 month span. I sent her the information on what equipment the hotel gyms had, and she customized my workouts 3 separate times so that I wouldn't have to skip and lose all the progress I had made. When I discovered I was pregnant in the fall, she worked with me again to customize my workouts based on what my OB/GYN allowed me to do. I have been using Christiana for just over a year now, and I'm thrilled with my results! She is an excellent motivator and NEVER makes you feel bad about yourself. "I began training with Anthony after a minor shoulder injury. I had seen a doctor, everything looked fine, but I was experiencing pain, but I was only offered meds. I’m not a big pill taker and was looking for another option. I met Anthony through a mutual friend. He sat with me, listened to my concerns and suggested some exercises to strengthen my shoulder. He met with me once a week for a month to adjust the exercises and was available by phone any time I had a question. I felt very comfortable around him; he touched me only to correct my posture or movements (which is very important to me, as a woman working with a male trainer), and made sure I understood what was going on with my shoulder. The problem resolved itself after about six weeks! No meds, no invasive procedures. I was very happy and I look forward to working with Anthony again, hopefully without an injury!"

"Jason set the bar high, for any future trainers I will have. He pushed me, encouraged me, and didn't take any crap from me. He wasn't afraid to tell me to shut up and squat (trust me, I need that). Even when I didn't stick to my meal plan, I still had amazing results! I would absolutely recommend Jason if you want serious results, and want your money's worth!"

"Lamar is a special kind of trainer. I say that because whatever your goal is, he goes out of his way to find the solutions that work best for you. He could easily just give you a cookie cutter program and absent himself from your goals; but whether it is using technology or putting his own body to work with yours, he exhaust himself finding the best solution for you. He will meet you at your level and then help you improve and become better at what it is that you do. In my case I have been an amateur martial arts athlete most of my life and in my late 40's I have decided that competing in the open Ultra Heavy Weight Class in Brasilian Jiujitsu would be a blast. But I needed to improve my conditioning. I called on Lamar. Not only did he design a program for me and my specific needs as an older athlete. He also suited up in a Gi/Kimono and drilled with me until neither of us could barely move. The result was both a bronze and later a silver metal in my first two competitions. I could not a have achieved my goals without his help. That is what I want in a trainer . A trainer who cares about what it is I want to do rather than making me into something I'm not. "So I know my way around a gym and have achieved fitness objectives in the past. The picture I’ve attached is me 20 years ago. I’m on a mission to get back to this shape. My best results have been achieved with the assistance of a personal trainer. I’ve had excellent trainers in the past but that required a selection process. I would watch the trainers at my gym work. I would observe their attitude, intensity and work ethic. In time one would stand apart as the best in the gym and then I would secure that trainer because I had high goals and that required a skilled professional. At the time I was at the CLUB METRO Gym in Phillipsburg. I made my selection but the gym moved to a new location and I didn’t like the new location and changed gyms. I’m getting to the point so just hang in there a bit longer. That was 2 years ago- so now I’m looking for a trainer again but nobody stands out in either of the 2 gyms I use. I went to another gym where the training manager layed out my options based on 25 minute training sessions with a variety of packages that did not appeal to me. Not to mention I hadn’t seen any of their trainers in action and 25 min sessions isn’t gonna work for me. I need high intensity training for at least 45-60 minutes. What to do? Finally I just googled “freelance trainers” and boom THUMBTACK pops up listing 5 options. BD FITNESS stood out to me and I went to their Facebook page. I watched a vid of the owner of this fitness studio give a tour of his training facility and the second I saw him I recognized him as the trainer I had selected at The Club Metro two years ago. I was instantly fired up and immediately contacted BRANDON DELGADO and met with him at his facility. I wanted 3 sessions a week- an hour each- Mon/Wed/Fri 10:00-11:00am. He was booked at those times but set me up with his associate DONNY RUNRILL. I’ve had 3 sessions with Donny and the training has been superb. I’ve already learned much and have no doubt that as long as I put in the work and follow the nutrition plan DONNY will get me to my fitness objective. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BD FITNESS Here’s the other bonus. Because this is a private fitness studio you and your trainer won’t have to navigate the obstacles of a busy gym. The most crowded it can get is if both Brandon and Donny are training clients at the same time which is incredibly freeing. I haven’t even mentioned the pricing. Not only am I getting superior training at an outstanding faculty. I’m also getting a great price. It’s win win win.......... I know it sounds like I’m a friend or family member but I’ve never conversed with either Brandon or Donny until a few days ago. I’m just that impressed!"

Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a type of martial art whose basic moves are widely practiced in personal and group fitness regimens. In combat kickboxing, two competitors fight using four points of contact — both hands and both feet — unlike traditional boxing, where competitors are allowed to use their hands. In competitive kickboxing, opponents must remain standing, and no fighting can occur on the mat or ground. Kickboxing has its roots in Muay Thai and other ancient martial arts. Is kickboxing good exercise?

Kickboxing is great exercise. It works your whole body and really gets your heart pounding. Kickboxing combines upper- and lower-body movements like roundhouse kicks and uppercut punches that boost calorie burning. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how much exercise you get. Kickboxing training that takes place in a martial arts studio will involve kicking and punching a sandbag or sparring with a competitor, both of which will sharply increase the amount of exercise you’ll experience in a kickboxing session. Comparatively, a study by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) found that women doing group fitness cardio kickboxing burned between 6.45 and 8.3 calories per minute, or approximately 350-450 calories burned during an hour-long class. This is roughly what you can expect to burn with jogging or similar exercise, but ACE says that cardio kickboxing offers the added benefits of increased strength and flexibility, sharper reflexes, and improved coordination.
