I couldn't have been more happier with my experience with H&R roofing and siding. After receiving five quotes from other contractors, I decided to go with H&R, not only were they the best quote by far,.. Ray from H&R proved to be genuine and professional. Ray took the time out of his busy schedule to meet with me and my mother and explain in detail the scope of my flat rubber roofing job in detail. He put a lot of our anxiety to rest. He stayed in constant communication with me before, during and at the end of the roofing project. He also expedited our job to accommodate our request to have it done as soon as possible due to our roof leaking every time it rained. His crew led by his partner Rolando were great and professional. I would not hesitate to use H&R again for any other projects and would recommend them for anyone looking for a honest, fair, and professional contractor.

Justin installed a new roof on my house. He and his crew stripped two existing layers of shingles, installed a new asphalt shingle roof, installed a new ridge vent and soffit vents. The roof looks great and no more leaks! Justin was very professional and knowledgeable. He answered any questions I had. I would recommend Justin to anybody looking for roofing or exterior renovations!

Erik Kortz and his company are a pleasure to work with. His crew is talented, professional and efficient. Erik is like no other contractor: he listens, provides input and effectively creates solutions. I am pleased to continue my professional relationship with Erik. Too often people comment on public Internet forums with negative commentary. Few take the time to share positive experiences, but with Erik and Stella Home Services: I sincerely can share that I will never hire anyone else but them. Whether it be for something small like furniture construction or elaborate like an entire remodeling. I've hired Erik personally and my company employed him to remodel our entire cafe. This included interior and exterior work, roofing and masonry. I fully endorse Erik.

I sent in my request at midnight and the next day in the morning they were here and said they could actually do three out of three projects where I thought they only could do two out of three projects. They were so nice and did great work very polite and very reasonable Replace basement windows fixed lag bolts under the deck and did some roofing work. I'm selling the house and the new buyer wanted all of this done and for years I've been trying to find someone just to do the basement windows Good people. Good job. Good price. And right on time. What more could you ask for?

As a frequent Thumbtack user, I've had a lot of contractors work on my house including other painters. Cleynira Construction and the owner Cody are by far the best we've ever used. They painted the outside of our 1950 colonial and it looks fantastic!! Cody also used his construction skills to remedy some tricky wood rot in some decorative detailing areas near that I thought would be very difficult to fix. If you want superior quality work at a very competitive price, I highly recommend these guys. I'm extremely happy with their work and I will rehire them at every opportunity.

Edward was very responsive to my call and was very patient in explaining in details about what needs to be repaired and the repair/replacement options. I was very informed and was quoted a good price and decided to hire them They added fascia apron to fix the leak between gutter and fascia. Two days later it rained to test their work. The gutter now works like it should and I don't see any single leak any more. Edward and Dennis also has their invention of a 'soft wash' machine, which softly sprays some chemical and use water to rinse the vinyl of the house. Boy, was I happy to hire them for that job! The house now looks like brand new. The wash worked like a charm. If you are thinking about cleaning the outside surface of the house, try them!! Edward and Dennis are also very personable, very easy to talk to and works very hard and carefully. I trust their quality and will highly recommend. I wish every contractor will be as easy to work with as them.

I was very impressed with Julio. He came to my house on a Sunday to give me an estimate to fix my ceiling that was damaged from a roof leak. He quickly determined that my roof was fine and I just needed to replace a rubber gasket around my vent pipe and replace a small section of my ceiling. The price was really good and I was thrilled that I did not need to fix my roof. His crew shoed up on time to start the job, and these guys were awesome. Frank was in charge and he even cleaned my exhaust fan in my bathroom free of charge. I will hire them again, and have already recommended them to my neighbors.

Pete Sanderson, the principal at Cornerstone Roofing, has done a number of jobs for my wife and me, and has been terrific in all cases. He responded when we had a roof dam during the terrible winter of 2015, to clear the roof of ice and snow. He then was engaged to install heating coils to assure that the roof did not have another roof dam. He also repointed our chimney during the same project. He also served as the project manager to repair the internal damage that resulted from the roof dam and consequent leaks and did an exceptional job of restoring the rooms that were damaged and making the interior of our house exactly as we wanted it. He worked well with our insurance company and delivered the project on time and on budget. We have since engaged Pete and Cornerstone for other projects and have been most please with the results. I am happy to recommend Pete Sanderson and Cornerstone Roofing without hesitation.

Ive known Shane McGuire the president of Northeast Roofing Contractors LLC for 24 year since middle school. He started in highschool and never stopped. I watched Shane go from residential, to the union after college to become a master of his trade, in commercial, or residential roofing. My roof is by far the most beautiful one in my neighborhood. Yes, Shane is my friend, but Regardless of relationship, Shane puts his name on every job. His company thrives through great reviews, and word of mouth. I left an 18 year career to work with him, because his workmanship and business ethics speak for itself. The company's no preasure consultations, are educating and very informative. Do not take my word for it. Do your own research and decide for yourself.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
