"For the past three years my high school aged son has taken piano lessons from Bulent. In all that time he has been consistently patient, kind, enthusiastic and inspiring. Bulent used every minute to provide the best instruction, correction and encouragement. His love of music is evident as he often shared suggestions and links for video and live performances. His rates are quite reasonable for individual instruction and he is accommodating to scheduling conflicts. I recommend him unreservedly! I have read some of the other positive reviews of Bulent and I can attest to the truthfulness of all of them - there is no exaggeration. Bulent is a remarkable human being and a wonderful teacher." As an adult learner with limited spare time (but a desire to become conversational in Spanish) I was looking for a tutor that would keep me accountable and help me progress in the language but also be enjoyable and easy to work with. The format of the lessons are great. While there is new material each lesson we also cover previously learned topics to help keep it fresh in my mind. I also feel as though I'm taught in such a way that the information really makes sense to me....the context is applicable and real life. I came in with a limited knowledge of Spanish but within a short time felt more confident and accomplished. New Way is also very organized and professional from a business standpoint....Gmail calendar invites for the classes keep things structured and I'm send additional material videos and homework to help Advance my learning. I highly recommend Alejandro and New Way!! Overall this has been an excellent time and financial investment for me!

I have played (poorly) guitar off and on for many years. I have finally decided to start from the very beginning... Bertrand has a teaching style that works incredibly well for me. He is teaching the fundamentals in a loose and fluid way that makes it fun and 'musical' from the start.. He reads me (for lack of a better term) and uses that info to guide me along through the lessons. He thinks ahead and I have found myself having a lot of "aha!" moments when things came together and I can see in hind sight how he was leading me to this point with out necessarily have said so directly. He records parts of the lesson that might be helpful to me and sends it via email. This is a great resource and I have built up a sizable library. Bertrand is a true artist and he takes great pride in his work and genuinely takes delight in watching and helping me grow with the guitar. Having tried a lot of "self teaching" methods, I can say that the old saying is true, at least for me. There really is no substitute for a GOOD teacher. I feel very fortunate to have Bertrand as my teacher.

When I set up my first guitar lesson with Nick I wasn't sure what to expect and was really nervous to be learning something so unfamiliar. I quickly found out that I had chosen an extremely patient, understanding and encouraging music teacher. Not only does Nick have the knowledge to back up his music experience but he also has fun ways to help you remember small lessons along the way. In a few short weeks I have built both confidence and passion to play the guitar and have completely shocked myself with how far along I have come. I truly believe Nick can help any dedicated aspiring musician no matter what level of experience they have.

Couldn't be more pleased with the work I have been doing with Jaime. I have been playing guitar for about 10 years casually, attempting to take lessons off and on but quitting due to the "dryness" of material. Jaime has fixed that problem completely, offering lessons in which we can be super-productive, while at the same time have fun. I've only had about 5-6 lessons and I can already see a big difference in my playing. Super punctual, super responsive, super fair pricing, just hire him already and be satisfied with a great teacher.

Jessica is wonderful. I have only had two lessons, but she has made it a point to get to know my strengths and weaknesses and we are working together on piano and vocal training. She has great energy and is extremely knowledgeable. I feel comfortable and confident with her guidance.

Main Street Martial Arts is an excellent business. I am a student at RISD with no history in marital arts and was searching around Providence for a good martial arts dojo this winter. Main Street Martial Arts was by far the most impressive, professional, welcoming, and exciting organization I found, bar none. Werth Sensei is an incredibly thorough and motivational teacher who is wholly dedicated to the art of Aikido. It is extremely helpful how he integrates the beginning students' practice with that of the more senior students. All in all, the Aikido classes are nothing less than exquisite, and you can't find better instruction than you do with Werth Sensei. I am also enrolled in the exhilarating Olympic Tae Kwon Do classes there. It is a ton of fun and is expertly taught by Abtin Timothy, a Team USA Olympic Gold Medalist in Tae Kwon Do. The community at MSMA is so incredibly helpful and fun to be around. Werth Sensei generously worked with me on the monthly price to make it affordable for a full time student, which is something special you will not find at most dojos or gyms in the area. I could not recommend the classes at MSMA more highly. Even if it is one class per week, the lessons and the people there make the entire week better, ESPECIALLY if you have a normally hectic and stressful schedule.

I started lessons with Bill to learn classical guitar after 5 years of self-taught electric and steel string acoustic playing. My playing has improved immensely since I started working with him. Not only has he introduced me to classical guitar but he has taught me how to effectively practice to constantly improve. Bill has a wealth of experience and knowledge to draw upon and I cannot say enough good things. A++

Amy is an incredible teacher - she breaks down singing technique in an easy to understand way and shows me that my voice is way more capable than I thought it was! She provides very practical exercises and examples that help me better understand the mechanics of singing, and provides helpful feedback whenever I fall off of my technique. Most importantly, she makes lessons fun! I highly recommend taking lessons with Amy.

I can't recommend Jacob highly enough. Not only is he a super nice guy, but he is an excellent teacher. He is patient, dedicated, and very talented. He really listened to what I wanted to get out of lessons, and catered his lesson plans to my desires and goals. He even put together some really helpful videos for me (on his own time)! so I could continue learning at my own pace. Jacob is also very flexible with scheduling. I couldn't be happier with my choice to higher him!

We weren’t sure our 6 year old son was ready to start piano lessons but we thought we would try it. Liana is so professional and treats him like a little grown up. As a result, he acts like a little adult with her and focuses on what she asks of him. In three months, he has learned the notes on the treble and bass clef, is learning the values of the notes and actually tinkers around at home with creating songs. I recommend giving Liana an opportunity to show you what she’s capable of teaching. To top it off, she is a very nice and kind woman.

Simply stated, Adam Levin is my esteemed teacher who has made the challenge of learning how to play classical guitar not only exciting but a pleasure from day one! Adam is a world class virtuoso guitarist whose enthusiasm, patience, and teaching talent enables him to transfer his knowledge of technique and interpretation to a student without being overbearing or overwhelming. My lessons with Adam are a source of inspiration to me, making me want to practice and come to the next lesson! I highly recommend this true gem of a teacher … you cannot make a better choice!

My son has been taking lessons here for 10 years and is part of the All Star Band which gives kids/youth the opportunity to experience being in a band and putting on a live show. Lessons have helped him grown into a better musician and given him confidence. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. The instructors are great... I recommend them to everyone who asks where my son takes lessons.

It was through a friend/neighbor's recommendation that my son started piano/voice lessons with Sunny five+ years ago. Since then, we have recommended Sunny to many of our friends and neighbors with children of all ages, from school age to high school. She's an outstanding teacher, patient but firm, and a very talented musician in her own right. My son has grown into a fine musician and performer, thanks to her encouragement and guidance.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
