Bruce arrived early, quickly diagnosed what we needed and did four projects we asked for from painting to installing a bannister to repairing roof tiles. In addition, he walked the entire roof and fixed a few other shingles that needed gluing. Great job, very fair price.

JR and his crew did an amazing job on my home! First thing, he is very responsive and also keeps you up to date on everything going on. They truly care about their work and do what it takes to make you happy. They ran into several bumps in the road on my home but handled it like true pros. I would have thrown in the towel if I did this project on my own and they just pushed through and got it done. They completely painted my entire house and cabinetry. I am so happy with them and the work they accomplished. Highly suggest them!

The repairs that Mr. Bradshaw done was excellent. I live in Virginia, and the repairs were for rental property in South Carolina. Mr. Bradshaw communicated with me via iPhone and we were able to pick out materials, review the contract, and monitor the work together. The bathroom floor was beautiful and the paint job was perfect. I will hired Mr. Bradshaw for future projects, and highly recommended him. He completed the work on time and provided good quality. He was honest, reasonable, and had great customer services skills.

I have now used Ricky and Paul for multiple projects and will definitely save their numbers for future projects. Paul was able to fix a mold and mildew sheet rock ceiling in my garage, found the leak and patched the nail holes that they found in my roof. They can do just about everything with very reasonable prices! Ricky has now painted multiple rooms in my house and did a great job. He did such a good job, that I recently hired him to paint my moms entire interior (Ceilings, Wall, and Trim) of her new house and an outdoor pergola. He did a spectacular job there too! My mom actually walked in and she wanted to cry it was so wonderful and made such a difference. They were even able to put in a bathroom door for us and did a wonderful job with that too. Cannot say enough about Ricky and Paul. THANKS!

Brian did a drywall and painting job for me in my half bath. He was very professional. He did what he said he was going to do, when he said he would at the price he quoted me. I am pleased with the work he did for me and plan on using him for more projects I have around the house.

I hired Ashbrooke to completely remodel my laundry room. They replaced the subfloor, insulation, sheet rock, rerouted electrical outlets, painted, tiled the floor and built the cabinets and cabinet doors from scratch. The job was done on time and exactly the way I wanted it. The Ashbrooke team was very professional and I will definitely use them for future projects.

We were in a very bad situation where our current contractor wasn’t getting the job done. Renters were scheduled to come in that I had to cancel. Rocco stepped in and took charge and not only finished everything perfectly but corrected mistakes big and small that he found along the way. His attention to detail and ability to get it done right in such a short time was appreciated more than I can express. We very strongly recommend him for your next project. Ours was a total renovation and there was no part of it that he couldn’t do and do well,

The two gentleman were fantastic! They arrived on time both days to finish the job and the quality is better than other crews I have hired. The joints are seamless and they took the time to sand down the dry wall build up and cleaned the floors before leaving. Plus they gave me a discount since I wanted to do the caulk and painting myself to save money. Just make sure to have cash or check since they are a small business. I used Your Dream Home Improvement to install two other doors and it took their crew 5 visits to poorly install 2 doors. Dream Home was more expensive and looks DIY. Versus these guys made the doors and new drywall seamless!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
