I only needed a short privacy-fence and an attached side-door platform with steps and safety rail, but Charleston Workshop treated me and my small project as if it were a major one. They provided expertise, kept their appointments (as scheduled), and completed the planned work on time and on price. In the end, I had a quality fence and a safe platform. I am very happy that I chose Charleston Work shop and will call on them again.

J.R. has been finishing the remodel job on a house I bought over a year ago. I found myself with a bit of a mess. We are nearing the second week of the job and everything he has said he would do, he has done. We have quite a few things that need to be finished before we can sell the home. I am having them fix my roof, replace windows, Paint the entire interior and cabinets, fix drywall, replace a door, some electrical work, plumbing for bathrooms and kitchen, putting in new stairs for the attic and many other small details that need to be done before we can put it on the market. There is still more to do, but I am extremely happy with there work so far.

They removed carpet and installed vinyl flooring and quarter round in 5 rooms. They also installed quarter round in rooms with tile floors. they also cleaned up after a painting job gone bad by another company. Paint spattered on floors, cabinets, counters, etc. they did a great job. They also put together several pieces of furniture and put all the furniture back in place after painters and hung pictures. He also hung tvs. They were totally professional, careful, respectful, and competent.

I needed multi-functional, wall-to-wall cabinet to hide a medium-size refrigerator, microwave, clothes rack, TV, and TV equipment. Brad walked me through the design, wood choices, stain, and all aspects. The finished product is unbelievable as we choose hickory wood that fit the space so well. Brad's attention to detail was so great that he made the wood's grain match up between the lower and upper doors. He also anticipated design problems and addressed them early on. The pricing was great as well as the timeline. I would highly recommend his company.

Bobby made a design for my kitchen so that I have more space, extra storage solutions, easy to keep clean with 4 boys, and it is a pleasure to use every day! I didn't have to spend hours trying to choose lighting, backsplash, flooring, cabinets, hardware, etc He would present a few options within my budget and I would choose one. Couldn't be easier. It took 3 weeks to complete (as it was supposed to) even with having to do major repair work on my second bath due to an unseen water leak from the tub into the wall between the kitchen and bath. Unexpected repair cost for the adjacent bath was reasonable (and looks a lot nicer now, too!). They were always on time, professional, clean and safe work area, and very detail oriented. Once again, very satisfied!!!! I will definitely use them again when doing more work on my home.

Joey did an outstanding job with the bookshelf in our living room. He did a great rough up drawing and then the installation took a day and a half. He incorporated design elements already present in the house so it looks like the bookcase came with the house. I heartily recommend him and already have another job spooled up for him. Friendly, courteous, and professional across the board. His crew were all friendly and professional. I couldn't be happier with his work and price.

Tom is great! I bought a house just over a year ago. He has basically redone my house. He has always been friendly, on-time, cost conscious with materials, and has competitive prices for a professional of his experience. I have always felt safe around him and am comfortable with him in my house even if I can't be there. I would recommend him to anyone! If you are interested in the work he has done for me, see below. Electrical: all fixtures, replaced all outlets and switches, installed additional outlets and cable jacks, rerouted switches, garage door opener. Walls/Ceilings: scraped popcorn and refinished ceilings, major wallpaper removal, repaired holes (big) in walls and ceiling, retaped and finished broken seams, fresh paint throughout (the best painting I have ever seen). Flooring: removed carpet, installed hardwoods, installed travertine tile, repaired subfloor water damage. Plumbing: replaced various water lines, replaced broken water heater, installed new toilets. Misc: removed all old appliances and installed new appliances including a built in microwave, repaired rotted wood on exterior trim, painted exterior door/trim, pressure washed driveway, trimmed tree limbs back from house, installed new towel bars/tp holders, removed plate mirrors and installed medicine cabinets, refinished some cabinets, changed all the cabinet hardware, replaced all door hinges and knobs. Just too many little miscellaneous things to mention!

Michael Feldsein did an excellent job remodeling my old Ethan Allen home entertainment center into a lower cabinet for a flat screen TV. I was very pleased that he used a lot of the original maple in rebuilding the cabinet. I am definitely going to ask him to return later and work on two pieces of family heirloom furniture! He did an outstanding job for a reasonable fee! Martha

Jeff is an unbelievable carpenter. He has built many custom pieces of furniture and cabinetry for me, including an office set, kitchen stools, a custom kitchen island, built in cabinets for our laundry room among other odds and ends. He is one of the most skilled individuals there is today when it comes to working with his hands. On top of all of that, he is also the most fair on price. You won't find a better deal, especially for the quality you are receiving. I would recommend him to anyone with any project, large or small.

From top to bottom, a first rate experience. Clay and his staff of knowledgable staff of professionals were kind, courteous and prompt. The estimate process was refreshing in that we never felt pressured and were intelligently informed of all our options. We chose the refacing process vs replacing all of our cabinets. We saved a lot of money! I must say, the work was nothing short of fantastic. We are so pleased and would highly recommend Clay and Kitchen Solvers to anyone looking to upgrade their kitchen or bath! Thanks so much Clay!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

      How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
