Nicole was the perfect choice for my wedding makeup. She traveled to my home for the pre-trial and helped me choose the best look that would work with my wedding dress. She gave suggestions but also listened to what I wanted. On the day of the event, she was calm and professional. My photographer even commented that Nicole was faster than most other makeup artists she had seen at weddings. Thank you, Nicole!

ToCarra is absolutely amazing. She did a fantastic job on my bridal and my bridesmaids' makeup for my wedding. She made us all look glamorous without looking unnatural. I had so many people stop me during the reception commenting on how good everyone looked! Not only is she incredibly talented, but she's really personable as well. She's hilarious and down to earth, and kept everyone calm before the ceremony - me most of all! She also had her work partner Katie do our hair, which was a godsend because I don't know how you would do 6 people's makeup AND hair in such a short amount of time. They are a great team, and Katie is awesome. She's also very personable and talented, and is able to work wonders even when you don't know what you want your hair to look like. My bridal hair was absolutely stunning - some of my guests thought I had extensions put in because of how full and detailed it was! I can't recommend these two enough! Thanks, guys!!!

I hired Noemi to provide bridal makeup and hair services for my recent New Years Eve wedding. Not only were the results amazing, but Noemi was also a true delight to spend time with as she helped me get ready for my big day. We had correspondence to collaborate on my look the weeks leading up to the event, and she totally nailed the boho-vintage look I was hoping to achieve with my hairstyle and makeup. Noemi was also very accommodating to other members of my bridal party that had a few last minute schedule changes for their hair and makeup. If you're looking for a true professional with a calming demeanor and bubbly disposition for your hair and makeup services at any event, look no further than Noemi!

I’m so glad I found Jessika during my very last minute search for a makeup artist for my wedding. First of all, her personality is amazing and all my bridesmaids could not stop bragging about her. Second, she asked and listened to my preferences during my trial and it reflected well on my wedding day after seeing my final look. My girls were impressed by how everything turned out as well.. and that was one of the things I was worried about. Lastly, with the quality of work Jessika provided, her services were affordable and worth every penny. Thank you for your lovely work, Jessika! It was a pleasure meeting you and we hope to work with you again soon! — Theresa

Finding Molly at the open house of The Creek Haus was the best thing I could have done. I had used another makeup girl for my engagement photos and was not pleased with the outcome. After meeting Molly, she assured me that she could give me the look I wanted. She delivered with flying colors. She did AMAZING on my makeup for my bridals. She was so sweet and didn't even complain that she had to be at my hotel room at 5 am to start since it was a sunrise shoot. I still have people brag about how flawless my make up was. She also did the makeup for me and my bridal party the day of my wedding. She had other weddings that day, but still managed to get all 6 of my bridesmaids done, in addition to me and my mother within the small time frame we had. I never doubted she would make everyone look beautiful. She was very professional, sweet, and honest about what looks she felt would be best. I don't have my pics back yet, but I def plan to share so everyone can see what an amazing artist she is. She is extremely talented and I would use her again in a heart beat. Her pricing is extremely fair, especially for the end product you will get once she is done.

Marie was very patient - we did two makeup trials and she was really receptive to everything my mother wanted for my bridal makeup while still staying true to what I wanted myself. My bridal makeup stayed the entire day (from 9 am to 2 am the following morning), in spite of all of the sweating I did (I danced A LOT at my wedding) and looked great in all of my photos (which were taken in natural lighting). I had also been looking for a clip for my short hair for my wedding and I couldn't find anything and then I saw that Marie makes hair accessories and she just happened to have the absolute perfect hair accessory that matched my wedding dress. She also gave me a great haircut!

Dominique did both my bridal makeup for my wedding & bridal portraits. I can't say enough positive things about my experience with Dominique. She listened my ideas about what I wanted, gave suggestions on what she thought we should do, and was super friendly and professional. Everyone was wowed about my makeup, I received compliments on how pretty it was whenever anyone looks at photos from those events. You can't go wrong with choosing Dominque for your event & production makeup needs.

Nisha is truly an artist. Nisha did a beautiful job on my henna for my wedding events. She traveled to my house which was so convenient because it is difficult to get around while the henna is drying. Her work is flawless, intricate, and detailed. She is so fast too but that does not compromise the quality of her work. She is a lovely person and enjoyable to talk to. When you spend 3+ hours sitting next to someone, it's a huge plus when they are nice to talk to! I received so many compliments on the henna design Nisha created for me. She is really good at copying any design that you wish for. She can do both traditional designs and more contemporary styles as well. My family was wowed by the intricacy and quality of the design. She offers a great price for the kind of quality work that she does. Nisha also helped me put on my sari the next day and did a beautiful job. I would highly recommend Nisha for your bridal henna needs, or even just regular henna! You will be so pleased at the value, speed, and beauty of her work.

my number one priority is to make my clients as happy as possible. I listen to exactly what they want and ask questions to be sure we are on the same page. When doing makeup I always want the bride, bridesmaid or talent to be as comfortable as possible. I always ask the bride what they want, schedule a time to meet before the big day to try different looks, look at magazines, catalogs, etc to get ideas from the bride. I like to get to know the bride before I just jump right in and start working on the.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.
