Great pricing for a job well done. They had a creative solution for getting rid of the orange peel on my ceilings, so I avoided huge costs and sanding, which would have been such a mess. Already hiring them for more work.

We had Jake install new laminate flooring and baseboards in our home. The experience was professional from start to end. Even through several changes (on our part) prior to work starting, Jake handled it all and provided excellent service! The new floors look fabulous and I would recommend Ausjac to anyone looking for quality work at a fair price. Thank you, Jake!

Rene is the best! He repaired some hardiplank siding, re-fastened some loose boards, and caulked the joints at our house. The best thing, was that he didnt push the paint job on the hardi-plank on us, which was great. He also repainted our condo, repaired wobbly fan (still barely wobbly, but WAY better...I'm thinking it can't be done any better than what they did), AND he repaired some water damaged laminate without having to redo the entire floors! The best thing, he worked with our budget, super about communication via text, phone, or email, and Quick about getting to projects! I secretly don't want to refer him because his schedule may get more busy, but he's been so great. I have saved him on my phone for future projects, and have been referring him to friends. you won't find a better contractor for the price and flexibility.

Greg Vasquez just completed a very challenging project involving the modification of a Laminate Countertop to enable him to install a new Cooktop unit in our kitchen. On a rating of 1-10, Mr. Vasquez earned a 10 PLUS rating from me. He responded promptly to my initial project posting on Thumbtack, always communicated in a professional manner, arrived for our first meeting to discuss the project in a timely manner and provided immediate options that we could consider. Most importantly, Greg is a man of integrity that has earned my total trust, respect and confidence after the completion of this first project. In fact, we have already started the scheduling of other more significant remodeling projects with Greg. Hereafter, I will exclusively utilize Greg for all of our home remodeling and repair projects. Thank you Thumbtack for the excellent referral to Greg Vasquez! George DeLuca, Georgetown, Texas.

Ronny and his crew were outstanding! My wife and I have a workshop in our backyard that I was using as my home office. It was very bare bones, so we hired Kathryn's Carpenters to finish it for us. Ronny came out right away to look at the space, and followed up with a detailed estimate shortly thereafter. It was our first time using a contractor, but their prices seemed very fair. The whole space is now drywalled, with a new window, sliding doorwall and laminate flooring. They even completed the project in less time than was originally stated, and we are extremely happy with the quality of work and how everything turned out. Definitely plan to give Ronny a call for our next project!

I needed to have old floors (mix of laminate, tile, and carpet), and back-splash taken out and have new laminate floors and black-splash installed. The service Simon provided me was outstanding. Overall, he did a great job from start to finish. I am not only pleased with the quality and craft of service Simon provided, but he did so for a more than fair and affordable price, with the utmost care and respect for me and my house. Although Simon is still young, he is the type of contractor you hope for—someone who is honest, trustworthy, takes pride in his craft, flexible and accommodating, and just an overall nice guy. I was a bit apprehensive when I started this project because I am relatively new to the city, just purchased my first home with my husband (while he is serving in the military overseas). I was worried about being overcharged, and taken advantage of. I met Simon after meeting 4 other contractors, and I immediately knew he was the guy I was looking for. He gave a great competitive and detailed quote. He was very straightforward with the work that would need to be done, without trying to up-sell me (like some of the other contractors). As some of the other reviews have mentioned, Simon has help on some days, but typically does all of the work himself. While he doesn't have a large team, the timeline Simon offered was comparable to other contractors that had larger teams (who might or might not have been trying to up-sell me with other work that was unnecessary) all while without cutting any corners, and maintaining quality work. I had some bad luck with the delivery of the laminate (not related to Simon) that got delayed by two weeks, but Simon was very patient and accommodating the whole way through. The original plan was to have a 3-week timeline to get everything done before move-in, but the delay with the laminate delivery caused the timeline to be shorten to a few days before move-in. In response, Simon worked extra hard for the first two days to get my living room and master room completed so I could move in to a livable space. Simon was thoughtful, and cared enough to do what he could to help me. He's the anti-thesis of the stereotypical contractors that just care about getting paid. Simon went above and beyond, and I now have beautiful new floors and kitchen back-splash. I highly recommend Castilleja Surface Solutions, will definitely be keeping in contact with him for any other future jobs.

Tony was my salesman for my laminate plank flooring. He was very patient with me while it took me several weeks to decide on a product. I loved them so much, I had him redo my bathrooms too...and now they are adding carpet upstairs. Great prices, fast installation, and great customer service.

Marvin was contacted me on here and was able to give me a free estimate the same day. He gave us a very good quote and was able to start the work the next morning. He and his partner removed some vinyl flooring that had been installed incorrectly and were able to recommend an affordable laminate that looks great in my living room. I was very impressed by the speed and efficiency with which he works. I explained the time crunch that I was in and Marvin was able to complete the entire job in just one day. The floors look fantastic and they gave a lot of attention to small details like the matching of our baseboards and transitions, cutting the transitions flush with each other and the wall, and they were meticulous in their cleaning. This is by far the best experience I have had with a contractor in Austin. I would hire him again and I would recommend him without hesitation for any renovation or remodeling project.

From start to finish it has been a pleasure working with Albert and his team. He came to our home to give us the estimate and we knew by his professionalism and demeanor that he was the man for the job. He was very knowledgeable about his product, and his prices were extremely good for the level of work. The crew sent out to install our flooring were a couple of wonderful gentlemen, and very good at laying flooring. We would recommend them to anyone and we will be using them for any projects we have around our home! Thank you Ezell and Sons!

He was very professional and checked with us in between his work to make sure we liked it. The door he installed was different from the one he took out and caused a gap in between the floor and the door. He was able to cut a piece of extra laminate and made it look like it’s always been there. He was great!

We had Anthony build a composite deck for us in December. It looks great. Its exactly what we wanted. The price went up a little from our original estimate but I kept making changes to the original plan. His father in law did come help out and made sure everything was done right. This might be a new business but it seems they are working very hard to ensure they do a good job. The only thing that would make it better would be a scale drawing of the completed project before the project is started to make sure we're on the same page from the beginning. I'm going to have them build an addition to the deck they just finished in the spring. The rates were very reasonable and quite a bit lower than some of the others quoted.

First of all, there is a review under David's profile that is not in any way associated with him, but Thumbtack says it cannot remove it. David installed ceramic tile in three rooms, a hallway, entryway and bathroom in my house in three days and his work is immaculate. When he removed the toilet he noticed a leak in the tank, went to Home Deport, got the parts and repaired it himself. He was very patient with me in that I had not even selected the tile when I contacted him. He is very methodical and when the job was complete, he cleaned the area and removed all the old flooring. He also installed vinyl laminate flooring in the master bedroom, another living area and two bathrooms in two days and did an equally amazing job. David also does all kinds of other work (painting, electrical, fence repair, etc.). I can't recommend him highly enough.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
