Tyrone is a true professional! It was a pleasure to work with him! Everything was set up and we finished even earlier than we planned. He has an amazing attention to every little detail and he will take an extra step to get the things done. The video that we shot turned out great! I couldn't ask for more! I'll definitely work with Tyrone again and suggest him to everyone who needs to get a quality product in a timely manner!

Absolutely brilliant team. Great service before and after the event. Our highlights video could not be better - we will cherish it forever. I would not be surprised to see these guys in the credits of Hollywood blockbusters in a few years - get them as your wedding videographers now before they are famous. For the amount of hours they spend planning and editing as well as the filming on the day - they are exceptional value. Could not be happier.

I had to accommodate a last-minute shoot request in the Dallas area and was scrambling to find a videographer. After my first phone call with Richard, I felt at ease and knew my project needs were in good hands. He is professional, detail-focused and provided very helpful tips and suggestions along the way. Thanks, Richard!

Ali and his son are amazing and super hard working. When you use sites like this, it's always scary if you'll end up with the right person, but they are amazing videographers and photographers. I'm so enthralled by my beautiful pictures and the amazing extra work he did on them. Made my special day memorable and 100% more special. I highly recommend them.

I hired Darby Media to help me build out my visual branding for my website and keynote speaking business. Derrick was simply incredible. Super professional, always fading into the background without my audience even knowing he was there. He has a complete suite of services, multiple cameras, photography, video, drone, etc. I’m especially impressed with his video editing abilities. He created a spectacular highlight reel complete with testimonial and background music. Derrick shows up early and stays late. Since hiring Derrick for my original event, I’ve since hired Derrick to work on several other projects. He’s now my go-to videographer!

James was a great help for our company at the last minute. Very professional, would and hopefully will use him again for future events in the Texas area. (Does send response emails sometimes late in the evenings, but I can't hold that against him, videographers can have crazy schedules.)

Alex was great to work with from the start. He picked up the slack for us when we had to cancel our other videographer just 1.5 months out. He was able to get us a great deal and produced his work in a very fast turn around. We are always pleasantly surprised when young adults show such value and attention to their work detail. We could only suggest that other couples remember to give Alex both a timeline and information on parts of your ceremony/reception that are very important- this really helps him know what to include in the video. Overall we love the decision we made to hire Alex.

When I started to look at videographers & photographers 4500Films was the first website I went to. I knew from watching one video that 4500Films was it! I had to have Mel & Cyndee photograph & take video of our wedding! From the very beginning Mel & Cyndee were amazing! My bridal pictures were an absolute blast with the two of them acting silly & everyone feeling like one big family!! I couldn't have asked for a better team. Our wedding pictures are absolutely stunning. The video is breathtakingly perfect! My husband & I couldn't be happier! We can't thank 4500Films enough for capturing ALL of the perfect moments from our big day!!

This was the first time I had hired a videographer and had no idea what to expect. I hired Tim to document my daughters senior piano recital. Tim was very professional throughout the entire process, from the first contact through delivery of the final product. His professional conduct and approach should be the standard that all others follow. He discussed the details of what I wanted prior to committing to a price, which was far lower than I expected and would have paid. He suggested we set up the day before and do a sound check, which turned out to be a tremendous benefit and on the day of the performance was setup and ready to go well before we arrived. The final product was delivered in less than 4 days from the performance and exceeds my expectations.

Possibly the most ethics driven photographer-videographer-cinematographer-post production service in the DFW area. Clinton Curnutt's Phat Armadillo Productions brings something to the table that most people in the business don't even understand, artistic and aesthetic flair. Phat also brings something else that most businesses understand but don't provide, commitment to getting the job done right the first time. If you're a band, you NEED this guy and his service. In fact, no matter what business you're in, Phat is worth every penny.

Caleb Davis is an incredibly hard working and enthusiastic individual. I wish that I could have him on every shoot and set that I am working on. I hired him to be the Director of Photography for short film that was a run and gun production. There were many obstacles that we faced, and Caleb met each of them with a positive and willing attitude. Caleb brings a life giving energy to each and every project that he is a part of. He is an incredible Editor, DP and a fantastic Director.

My wife and I got married on 11.03.12. J&J did a FANTASTIC job on our wedding video. They were on time; they were courteous and great to work with. They had multiple HD cameras and captured lots of moments that we were not able to see or enjoy during the event, which makes our video that much more valuable to us. A short time after the ceremony they contacted us and asked us if we had any song suggestions which we sent to them and they used perfectly. We would not hesitate to use them again and we would strongly recommend them to anyone that might need a videographer for any occasion. GREAT job guys!! Look forward to using you all again as our children start to have events in their lives.

Brady Clayton is a 5-star individual, both as a videographer and as a person! When we watched the videos he made before deciding to have him shoot our wedding, we knew within just a few moments that we wanted him to capture our special day and we are so glad we made that decision! The wedding video he made for my husband and I took our breath away and he was so easy to work with from start to finish, and he always got back to our questions really quickly. He was very attentive to our video wishes as a couple, very professional on our wedding day and he's hands down the funniest guy we've ever met, so it's very easy to just relax and be yourself when he's around. I cannot recommend him highly enough as a videographer! Hire him, you won't regret it at all!!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
