Juan installed a fan for me, when most other companies said the ceilings were too high. He was very polite, professional and did an awesome job! I love my new fan! Thanks so much Juan! I would highly recommend him to anyone!

In the end the cleanup of my bare concrete floor went well, but there was a mixup in communication as to what kind of cleanup it was and to what extent I wanted it free of dirt and debris. But the manager and tech worked with me until it was okay.

It's my first time using SWS. I posted my project on Thumbtack for Move in/Move out one time whole house cleaning and I awarded the project to SWS among 4 bids I received based the good reviews and the competitive quote (not the lowest but better than I paid for the same kind of job before). The house is a recently vacated rental home and just had new laminate and tile floor installed so the house is dusty and soiled.Their team showed up on time and did a fair job. Like other review said, they are not using strong chemical so the tough water stain (soap gum) on the shower door could not be thoroughly removed. The new laminate floor was cleaned well, but the new tile floor had residual dust in the form of mop trails (I guess because of the heavy dust it would require a couple of more rinsing and changing dirty water). The manager Mark is a great communicator and customer service guy. He offered to come out the next day to redo the work to address our concern but because we wanted to put the house on the market the next day so my wife decide to finish it up so that we could take picture of the house. Overall I am happy with the service

The work he did for us was very extensive. It included removing the carpet on the whole top floor of our house, including the stairs. Then it was replaced with laminate, added new side boards, and brand new wooden stairs. The whole master bathroom was redone, took out the bathtub and flooring and redone with a full tile shower. We also needed an opening between two bedrooms to combine into a bigger master suite, which included having to open up a wall and install a new opening/door. Everything was done very neatly and beautiful. His work is excellent and very well done!

Infinitely better than most carpet professionals. I would've given 5 stars because his work was nearly flawless except for the seam. I'm painfully aware of it- seems to have been cut just slightly too short so you can feel a gap where the pieces join. Other than that perfect work.

They did an outstanding job. Removed and replaced carpet in entire second floor of my home, showed up on time, did a terrific job, and were very reasonable in their fees. I would highly recommend this company, as he and his son work hard to earn your business and maintain their honest reputation.

Willie and his helper did a great job on my new floor. I put down engineered hardwood and gave him a 4 day deadline to finish the project which he met with time to spare. They showed up early every morning and worked through most of the day. We had a couple small issues with the trim which he addressed, but overall it looks great.

Tell-Projects was wonderful. I worked closely with Zach, with office supervision and communication from Ellie. They helped us remodel our entire second floor living in just under 3 weeks, start to finish! That included demolishing the kitchen and two walls, installing new floors, counters, countertops (quartz), and installing our handpicked appliances. They were very efficient, speedy, and thorough. Throughout the experience, Zach was very communicative, open, and honest. We partnered closely to create a floor plan and the various design choices that go into it. My fiance and I both travel for work each week but we had full trust of Zach and his team to be in the house working. He would send us pictures of the progress each day and was very accessible if we had any questions by phone. We'd highly, highly recommend Tell-Projects for future remodeling projects, no matter how big or small. Price was very reasonable considering the value, and they put no pressure on you to do more than you absolutely need. And of course, there are always little touch-ups here and there afterward to get everything perfect, but Zach and his team were more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure that we felt happy. You can see pictures of our remodeled kitchen here: https://robinsonphotography47.pixieset.com/wilsonstreetkitchen/ Safe to say that we are thrilled!

I had JC Wood Floors sand, stain and finish my existing wood floors on a home that was built in 1951. The floors had small holes through out were there had been screws put in and some of the pieces had shifted. He was able to fix them and get them looking like new. He came on time every day and was detailed about his work. The floors came out absolutely gorgeous.

I hired Ground Art Installers for 2 different projects (Master Bath Remodel and a Outdoor Patio floor) and I am glad I did. Ivan and his team are always on time, great communication, flexible, fair prices and good with my kids on top of all that! Master Bath Remodel - Ground Art installers holds true to their name. They took the extra time to go through my marble and pick out pieces that would flow well together. They didnt just randomly places tiles as they were coming out of the crate. Ivan knew that I was paranoid about my shower leaking (there are many ways you can really mess up a shower install) and he took the time to walk me through his process. He goes above and beyond and takes necessary measures to ensure the showers WILL NOT leak. The tile was laid professionally with a 1/16" seam. He also has a network of people who have similar high standards in the craft they do (he referred me to a glass guy for my mirror and frameless glass shower) who was equally nice, great communication, top quality work and fair price. Patio - Ivan and his team took the extra time to ensure each tile was placed perfectly and even. At first, he initially laid down a pattern and showed me, I said "looks good". He continued on for about 15 minutes then decided it was a perfect pattern so he ripped it all up and re-did the pattern. This is the kind of perfectionist he is. To top all this off, the concrete team that poured the slab underneath failed to slope the slab 100% correctly. I had standing water in the middle of my patio. Ivan found the perfect solution, we rented a tool and he carefully drilled into the patio and slab and tied into a drain that was underneath all of that. It was a very clean solution to a major problem. He thinks outside of the box and really cares for his customer. I cant say enough good things about him and his team. Will hire again for my upcoming projects.

Fantastic job! My family and I are so pleased with the work Immediate Painting did to our home! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a painting company. A couple of the other companies were basically construction companies trying to subcontract that work out for cheap. Eric and his team specialize in painting only and it showed. Glad I found them on Thumbtack!

I needed the tile in my kitchen cut to fit the new stovetop that my home warranty company replaced my old one with. The only problem was the new grills were slightly larger than the 40 year old ones and the warranty company did not cover the tile cutting. After going to Home Depot and getting no results, I remembered using Thumbtack for other projects. Saul was the first to respond within 10 minutes and the only one to respond for 2 days. I sent him pictures, he responded with a reasonable quote, arrived promptly and did a wonderful job. I have already referred him to someone else and he will definitely be my tile guy!

Did great work and price was honest and reasonable. They did the tile work for the dinning room floor, bathroom floor, and bathtub surround. In addition, they replaced the bathroom vanity, painted the kitchen cabinets, and applied epoxy to the kitchen's laminate counter. Levi was responsive to my texts and phone calls, and didn't have any problem with the additional requests made once construction started.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
