We hired them for a local move within the city, from a 3 bedroom home to another 3 bedroom home. They arrived when expected and worked hard the entire time. They were efficient, polite, and skilled at fitting large furniture through doorways and avoiding dings and low-hanging light fixtures. I would recommend them to anyone looking for local movers.

We got their help for local moving - we had 4 folks with 2 trucks (26 ft I think). They were very careful with all our stuff and floors and doors for our new house we moved in. We could tell they cared and worked very hard. They were able to move everything out and in half day (6 hrs). Everything went well. Thanks!

As a minister since 1973, I have been involved in many moves over the years. RED CARPET MOVING was, BY FAR, the very best I have ever witnessed! Elijah immediately responds to inquiries, his estimates are truly competitive or below anyone, and he is a first quality person and a gentleman. In addition, his crew of Lionel and Jose were polite, hard working, and I could not believe how fast they had us moved from our apartment to the home we rented. They worked together as a crew with tremendous efficiency and did not stop---even for five minutes. I got tired just by watching them work so hard and so fast. Believe me people, if you need a local move or you want to move to Nome, Alaska or New York City (New York City...really) Elijah and RED CARPET MOVING are the first people to call! You will not be sorry you called the BEST at the LOWEST PRICE! I believe in them so much feel free to call my cell number for my personal recommendation. Rev. Gary at 903-204-8434

5 Star Billiards representatives were amazing. They were prompt, professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer questions. The work that they did moving, rebuilding bumpers, and recovering is extraordinary and my pool table looks like it just came from a showroom floor. I would definitely recommend them.

I have been on thumbtack for a few years now and used pro services on here multiple times but this is the first time I really felt complete satisfaction with the work done. Starting from ease of scheduling the move with Jackey to punctuality, work quality and professionalism shown by Martin with helping us with move was excellent. We sold our house and we were having to move our luggage to a storage place and an apartment and the whole process went very smoothly and efficiently. Martin went above and beyond the work they were hired from including making time to come back the next day to move furniture that had to be dumped and offering a complimentary move-out clean on top of it! I already know who am going to call for moving services when we are ready to move into our new house. Well done! Great job!!

They were able to schedule me for a same day move. They were running late, but they did reach out to let me know. Everything they could move, they did. It took the whole 3 hours I reserved (with 3 guys), but I have A LOT of stuff. There is no way I could have moved all my things without hiring them. I was on a serious time restraint. The payment app is the only thing I didn't like. My bankcard didn't like it either. I eventually got them cash and all was good. I would use them again for a local move.

Easy process to set up. The two bellhops contacted me before and showed up on time. My only complaints are that it is a little bit pricey. $120 for 10-15 min of work moving two couches from downstairs to upstairs seems too much. And then when they moved the couch upstairs they put a hole through my wall....which was the primary reason I wanted to hire professionals instead of doing it myself.

I have had my fair share of horrible moving experiences and expected nothing less than that when I hired Big Tex Movers to move me from Burleson to downtown Dallas TX. Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was from the moment I started speaking with the owner, Andy, via Thumbtack. He was extremely professional, pleasant, and straight forward. It seemed too good to be true! Then when my movers arrived, I met Patrick and Christopher and they did an amazing job! They were hustling the entire time. Running from the truck to the pick up, never stopping, never sluggish. They were well groomed, polite and very kind. They took extra care of my belongings, like they belonged to them. These hard working gentleman did this for 5 hours straight! None of my furniture or belongings were damaged and there were no hidden fees. What I was quoted by Andy was exactly what I paid. They charged by the minute! That is unheard of in their industry. I highly recommend this moving company if you're in need of an honest, hard-working moving company. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to everyone in the Dallas area. Thank you so much Andy, Patrick and Christopher!!! Y'all made my move so easy! A++++++++++++++++++

The moving guys were about 15 minutes early. The only break they took was while driving the truck. Moving furniture out of an apartment, making a stop to a storage unit, and moving into the new apartment took only 4 hours. Very courteous, can't wait to hire them again on the next move.

Super nice, super fast and did an awesome job for us. Truly lifesavers. We thought we could handle getting all our tree limbs cleaned up on our own, but ran out of time and it was too much for our local curbside pick up. After we reached out, we arranged to have it done within a few hours. A huge relief!

Hired Guidance Moving to move our business office to a new location. A team of 3 showed up and got right to work. They quickly disassembled our desks and wrapped them for transport. They were all very polite, hard working professionals. I often worry about such services when there is an hourly rate involved as people sometimes "milk the clock" but not these guys! They did not slow down until the job was finished. Everything was handled perfectly. The rate was great and the quality of work was exceptional. If you are looking for movers, look no further, these are your guys! I will hire them again in the future!

These guys did a great job on very short notice. I couldn’t be at the property, but without my asking they started sending photos of their progress. This was voluntary accountability that made me feel comfortable with their work. I could see by photos they were the right people for the very fast job I needed on a property with a new tenant moving in with in hours. They were punctual, professional and I will hire them again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
