They did a great job. Were very professional, fixed the hole where I had a plumbing leak repaired and a long crack in my ceiling. I could not even get other contractors to return my class, but Rosalio Gamez promptly returned my call and did a great job. I would highly recommend him!

I have worked with three different contractors on various projects over the past four months...this gentleman (Josh) was a pleasure to work with and I will be calling him again for additional services. He reviewed the area of concern on a Sunday, gave me a quote and had the job finished in less than 3 hours at the price he quoted.

My roof suffered some hail damage last year and after filing a claim with my insurance company, I started searching for reputable roofers/general contractors. I reached out with my inquiry on Thumbtack and Matt Snow was one of 5 contractors that reached out to me promptly. Of the contractors I met with, Matt quickly made it to the top of my list. His courteousness, professionalism and reasonable estimate gave me just the confidence I needed to make my decision on which contractor to work with. Not knowing much of anything about roofing, it was a bit daunting to choose a contractor in the first place but Matt kept things simple. Not only did he provide a free inspection/estimate but sat down with me and reviewed the insurance claim, answering any questions/concerns I had. He also walked me through anything I didn't understand about the claim and at no time made me feel obligated to his business. The deadline for my claim was just a few weeks away and I was very concerned about the amount of work and time it would take for my roof to be completed and for my claim deadline to be met. Matt understood my sense of urgency and communicated his availability to me as well as providing me an accurate detail of how long it would take for the work to be completed. On the day of the job, his fellow contractors (he works with a team of two others) showed up promptly at 7:30 a.m. and started the work. I dealt with Matt directly, from start to finish of the project, and I appreciated there being no confusion or need to repeat myself to anyone else. I was charged for the roof after work on it had been started and Matt checked in a couple times throughout the day (it was a one day job) to keep me posted. Matt and his team are very reliable in my experience and wholly professional. Professionalism with courtesy go a long way in my book and Matt definitely defines that. This is an honest, transparent (reasonable rates and itemized invoice) and hard-working business that definitely wants to earn their customer's loyalty as much as their monetary business. My roof was a small job that didn't require a lot of hands but Matt and his team of two worked around the clock and delivered. I could hear them on the roof for the duration of the work and have no doubt as to how dedicated they are to getting the job done and done well! I also got the impression that no job is too big or too small to have Matt's full attention and dedication. Matt will work with your time, budget, claim and concerns. I highly recommend City Wide General Contracting and can't say enough great things about Matt and his team. This is a lengthy review but I wanted to cover all the bases of what I look for when hiring an individual/business. I am a first time homeowner and had no personal/direct experience with property damage and insurance claims prior to this. Matt put my mind at ease and made this process a bit more pain-free. I hope this review will be very helpful to anyone who is like me and wants to ease some of the stress that goes along with seeking reliable, reputable and courteous businesses. If you need roof repair or any General Contracting work, definitely consult with Matt Snow and City Wide General Contracting.

I'm an ex-contractor (very picky), the couple of times I've hired trades to help me with some of my home projects I've always ended regretting it. Decided to take a chance on Willy (Wilfredo), so I hired him to stain 240 ln. ft. of fence. The guy surprised me! Punctual, clean,detailed...a complete professional! And his quote more then fair. Hope to be working with him again real soon.

I had to have a railing replaced at my apartment complex and between placing the thumbtack request to having it completed took less that 3 days! Amazing work and he left the railing looking like one of the original rails. If we ever need fencing work done, we will call Cody back. For someone that works with contractors on a weekly basis, Braughton and Son's did a perfect job and I recommend them to anyone looking for quality work.

After working with several contractors my wife and I were done! We tried one last time thru Thumbtack and found CJ. Awesome job painting the interior of our home! Lowest bid we found, fastest turnaround and CJ was happy to fix a couple of minor issues even after we paid in full. We now use CJ for everything we need.

Eric was great to work with from start to finish. First, since he’s a one man show, his price can’t be beat. Second, he’s well aware of the contractor stereotypes (unreliable, poor communications, paying upfront, etc) and does everything to combat this and make it a great experience. Third, and most importantly, he holds himself accountable for his work and ensuring expectations are met. If I can’t do it at the house, Eric is my first call. Thank you for bathroom renovation!

My husband and I are very pleased with the work that Chong and his workers completed today. Not only did he give the best quote we could not ask for a more professional contractor! From the day he showed up to give an estimate till the day the project was complete he was on time every morning and worked through the day with his team. His workers were very polite and made sure everything was picked up the last day. I highly recommend Chong and already asked him to come back to do more work.

Paola did an excellent job for me! I had him do some drywall repair and not only was he able to come out quickly to do the work, he did a really nice, clean job. I'm very picky with contractors and I was extremely impressed. Everything we talked about and he quoted during our initial meeting to determine the scope of work was done well. I will absolutely hire him again and will refer him to anyone I know that needs work done. Very dependable and friendly and responsible.

I just moved from Savannah Georgia to Dallas. I needed my condo renovated. The person who lived here literally smoked 6 PACKS of cigarettes a day. I thought the color of the walls were intentionally painted a mustard yellow. The entire condo had carpet. Including the kitchen and bathroom. I had to stay here in that mess first 2 weeks before I found Brian. I will tell you this, I have never in my 54 years on this earth found a more pleasant Christian man who says and does what he tells you hes going to do. He is honest, WAY beyond fair on pricing. He actually shows up on time. Never called with excuses (my car broke down, my helpers didn't show up, etc). If you have ever worked with contractors you know what I mean. He came over for a consultation and within an hour I had a professional bid sent to my email and each item was broken down. He actually saved me money. (Not kidding). I wish I had before pictures.... he had to kiltz my condo 3 times to get the cigarette stain of my walls. The paint turned out BEAUTIFUL. This company goes beyond and above. He definitely makes sure you are happy with his work. He stays in touch every day after he leaves the job to let you know what was done and if I had any questions. WHO DOES THAT? Look, I could go on and on but then you would probably think I am either related to him or getting paid to write this review..... I'm neither. I'm a VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER and I am pleased to let him know how much I appreciate his proffesionalism. If I could give him 100 stars I would. Thank you Brian. You were truly a blessing. God bless you. Tami Tompkins Morgan

We had a tree pushing up a section of our patio so I went through Thumbtack to find a contractor. I want to commend Adalberto for being very prompt to respond back to us. Even though we are still in the process of completing this project, we have been very impressed with Adalberto's work. We have worked with several contractors for various jobs, Adalberto has been the most professional one that we have worked with in a long time. Very refreshing! He shows up on time, answers and helps us understand any questions we have and he is eager to please the customer. When he is done for the day, he cleans everything up before he leaves. We have acreage, so there will be other jobs that we will definitely give him the 1st option to do the job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
