Joshua Balok is by FAR the best trainer I have ever had the privilidge of working with! I have had some personal trainers in the past, but for a variety of reasons have not stuck with them...that was until I found Joshua. He has an exceptional way of keeping me motivated, and I now find myself actually looking forward exercising! He really is an incredible person first and foremost; and he continues to change my life for the better in every way. If you have the need for any kind of spiritual advisor, life coach, or personal trainer look no father. Do yourself a favor. Get Josh! It will be the best decision of your life! He has single handedly changed mine!

I was impressed with how much Angela understood what I was trying to accomplish. We were able to come up with a plan that was actually workable for me to see the changes I want. I appreciated that she will have phone sessions also. This was my first experience with a Life Coach and I was happy with the progress I have made with Angela's help.

Hope is an excellent life coach and has helped me deal with many issues throughout our time together. She really does love helping people, I feel like she is really invested in my progress. Her joy at my success makes me feel good after the pain of growth. I mostly work with her on general life issues, but one of the many sessions we've done together is Career Clarity. During this session I was finally able to recognize what career path I wanted to take. It took me 35 years to find out what I want to do when I grow up, but at least I made it :) Thank you Hope!

Jennifer has been doing a wonderful job in coaching and guiding me as I kept hitting blocks in my business. Her insights have been uncannily accurate, and working with her has made me see how building a business can be a pleasurable journey, rather than a seemingly never ending list of tasks. I feel so fortunate to have found her and have had the opportunity to have worked with her. I have kept hitting breakthroughs in my business thanks to Jennifer's insights and advice.

Scott Goyette of Fitness 4 Mind and Body has been working with my 20 year old son for the past several months. My son is a college student who really had no plans for his future. He wasn’t completely sure what he wanted to study and he found succeeding in school to be a real challenge. He was opposed to being coached, but agreed to ONE meeting with Scott. That one meeting was all it took to convince him that he could benefit from working with Scott. Scott has helped him to develop a mission statement for his life and to lay out a plan to succeed on it. He is helping my son to identify his particular challenges and finding ways to overcome his obstacles. Scott has been extremely effective and getting my son to see things from a different perspective and act in a way that brings about positive change. The more my son succeeds with Scott’s help , the more he wants to grow and change – and the more he believes he can. Scott Goyette has been a true blessing.

Learn to dance with your fire! As your trusted life coach and transformation strategist, it is my mission to be your advocate and to strive to elicit the best from you. I will work with you to move you towards your goals in healthy and inspiring ways. I will hold you accountable and challenge you to grow and do more than you think you can do. I might push, pull, and stretch you in ways you might find unexpected and perhaps uncomfortable, but like a good workout, once the (growing) pains subside, you will be stronger, healthier, and brighter inside. I will be exclusively focused on you and your goals, not mine. I will be your partner and confidant, with respect, optimism, care, and joy for all you are and wish to accomplish. Whether you're a talented, productive creative (artist, writer, musician, etc.); an entrepreneur or business owner; or a stable, capable, strong person wanting to live a truly full, rich, successful life with bipolar disorder, Asperger's, anxiety, or OCD, we all have one thing in common: a fire inside of us that illuminates and drives all that we do. It's not always easy living with this kind of fire! As much as it sustains and inspires us, it can also be hard to control, and sometimes damaging, if not handled with skill, respect and attention. Do you feel as if you're stuck in your path to a richer, healthier, more fulfilling life or career? Are you ready to assess and change old, rigid habits and learn ways to make your fire and drive work for you instead of against you? Our coaching partnership will help you move towards a deeper sense of total wellness, new creative and professional accomplishments, and healthier attitudes and habits. I will guide you towards understanding your motives, your needs, your dreams, and the most rewarding paths to a successful, illuminated life. I will help you to really listen to yourself and will be your guide on your inner journey towards strength, stability and happiness. Through this process, you will learn how to better manage, respect, and love your body and mind. You will learn how to dance with your fire! Note: I am a member in good standing of the ICF (International Coach Federation). I am currently working towards Professional Coach Certification, expecting completion on 2/2014. I am working through an ICF (International Coach Federation) accredited program, the highest accreditation and certification available in this field.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

    • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
    • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
    • Defining your career goals
    • Creating a plan for job searching
    • Improving networking strategies and skills
    • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
    • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
    • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

    Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

    • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
    • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
    • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
    • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
    • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
    • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
    • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

    What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
