I highly recommend Andy for any project around the house. We hired him to make sliding barn doors for our dining room window. They turned out even better than I imagined. Andy had good suggestions on how to make them and was knowledgeable about all aspects. He even fixed a project we had someone else do a few months ago. Andy was very reasonably priced, polite, honest, and fast! The entire project was complete in one week. He is skilled at woodworking and makes sure you are happy with the end result. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

We had Legacy Trim construct some custom shelving in our entryway. They also replaced the crown moulding they had to take down to accommodate the shelves with custom woodworking that looked even better. They did a great job and completed the work both under budget and on time.

Larry was so helpful. He installed a cabinet for me on ceramic tiling in our master bathroom. He even went the extra mile and fixed the mistake I had originally made. Not only that but he came the same day I made the request. He was professional and courteous and I hope I get to use him in the future for some custom made cabinetry!

Chris is a master woodworker. He made our bedroom set, a couple Morris chairs and livingroom set end tables and coffee table. The quarter sawn white oak is absolutely gorgeous. You will not be disappointed with his craftsmanship. Not enough nice things to say in so litte apace. Thank you Chris Grimes for going above and beyond!

My best description of Apache Rose is honest, fair and skilled. Steve and team removed the existing back door to my home and hung a new one. His knowledge, professionalism, attention to detail and pride in his work sets him apart from contractors used in the past for other jobs. I would not trust my home repairs to anyone else. As I told him, I'm glad to have found him.

My experience in working with wood has been a hobby for more than 15 years. Over the years, I have developed a good working knowledge of refinishing wood furniture and repairing minor dings, cracks and chips to like-new condition. I have repaired old and antique furniture to include reproducing molding and finish. I am able to do minor upholstery.

Our services include (and are not limited to): typical interior mouldings, baseboards, crown moulding, door and window casings. We also can offer services on specialized applications of embossed mouldings, buildups, wainscot, coffered and box beamed ceilings. Anything that can be dreamed and designed we can create and install. For example, we have designed and installed hand hewn beams, planking, T & G type ceilings with a variety of different distress patterns both with vintage lumber and designs made to look like replicas. Our full service shop enables us to create a variety of different products for our clients. Our designs range from designed built-ins, closet organizer systems and free standing furniture pieces, to elaborate mantles and kitchens. Door installation is available for all interior and exterior applications. Whether creating and installing the perfect entry door, or a standard interior door, we have the resources to provide and install. Hardware preparation and installation is not a problem for standard applications or specialty mortise lock preparation. For many of our new home builders we set all the manufactured doors and windows as well. Exterior siding installation is also available.

I strive to make every project as if it was my own. I thrive in the creative field of using recycled materials to create new and refreshed pieces. If we agree on a job then I will make sure to leave the customer satisfied and the jobsite cleaner than when I arrived. I have a background in HVAC install, carpentry, and remodelling, along with the computer skills to use CAD software to design and create projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
