Great experience with The Mover 123 and the owner Kingsley. Scheduled an in house analysis and hired them on the spot. Our move came in under budget and way under what other companies estimated. Very happy we went with them. We have moved several times before and no other company stands up to the services we received from the movers. Entire group professional, friendly, hard working and made us laugh. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Recommend absolutely!!!

It's a rarity to say that moving was a pleasure, but in this case it was. They were on time, fast, and efficient in getting everything loaded. Speed did not mean a lack of quality either. They made sure everything was secure and safe before loading on the truck. Once at the new location, they were able to get everything unloaded and in my place in quick time as well with the same care. All this and at a great price too! In fact they came in under my projected budget! I highly recommend this service for any moving project you may have. I won't hesitate to recommend them to friends, and if needed, use them again.

Rob and his son moved some heavy furniture out of my apartment and took it to the dump for me. Rob was quick to reply and communicate with me about the job and was even able to come with less than a days notice! They were both so friendly and professional and were finished in less than 30 minutes. Moving is a nightmare and they made it so much less stressful. Hands down the best choice, I will never call anyone else.

Hard workers at a fair rate. They were very careful with all things, communicative about placing of items in the new place, and best of all we came in under budget! Beyond that, what stood out most is their integrity. The job had the potential to go sideways in the beginning but Giovanni made sure I was taken care of, even coming down to my house to meet with me, discuss everything, then stay to help out! I will be booking these guys for sure next time I need to move. Highly recommend their services!!

I did not end up hiring any movers for my project and decided to move my things on my own, but I would have chosen Tranzambezi for sure. They offered unparalleled value for the product and even worked with me on price in order to fit my budget. Shout out to them!

We started the paint job in our living room then found it was too big a job for us, so we contacted Thumbtack. Curtis responded right away and came out the same day and discussed the job with us in Saratoga Springs. We had the house torn apart and part of the living room painted so were anxious to get someone who could come right away. He was great to work with and did his best to meet our expectations and schedule. He painted the living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room in about four days. The painting turned out beautifully and very professional. He was timely, conscientious, hard working and did a great job. We were so pleased with the quality of his painting and his willingness to work with us throughout the project. He was not the cheapest bid we got, but felt that his work was well worth the money and a fair price. We would certainly use him again!!

I throughly enjoy working with companies that are this responsive. I was able to easily reschedule a time that worked for me. And one of the very few moving companies that don’t charge a minimum 3 hour charge. I had them move two heavy pieces of gym equipment from my garage to my basement.

I agree with other reviewers that there is a bit of a disconnect in the office and my estimate was significantly off from my final price. There is also a bit of excessive overwrapping but I can understand why for a long distance move. Rose and Jennifer worked to ensure my final price was closer to the estimate and within my budget. William in logistics ensured the truck arrived within the timeframe I needed for a very specific and tight move due to a work start date. I would say what makes Great Nation great are the moving crews. Eric ran my pick up and did an excellent job securing my items and documenting everything that was loaded into the truck. Fred and Carlos went out of their way to ensure my delivery came on a specific day that was out of their time range. They were pleasant and worked extremely hard even though it was probably an inconvenience for them. Fred was on the crew for my pick up and was familiar with my items and my moving situation and just an absolute pleasure to work with. Even though there were a few hiccups I still 100 percent recommend Great Nation if you are looking for a fast and efficient move with great movers who care. A lot of long distance companies want you to wait weeks for your items. For a NJ to FL move I had my move completed in 4 days. I would definitely use Great Nation again in the future and would say any issue I experienced would happen with any other company. I called after another moving company bailed on me 2 days before my move. Great Nation was able to jump in and coordinate my move, deal with my high stress level, and make sure all issues were handled to my satisfaction. A+++

I highly recommend the guys at Lyons Services. They were able to accommodate my last minute request to do a local move and were punctual, friendly and professional. From my first impression I could tell they were good hearted, hard working guys. They were careful not to damage either property as well as my furniture. Twice they found jewelry underneath furniture and brought them to me, which was awesome, of course! Again, according to my experience with them, I can confidently recommend them for your loving needs!

Scott and Tony were great! They worked hard and were very professional. They were a little late but called beforehand to let us know. The quote given (by Marisa in the office) was accurate and there were no hidden charges or up-charges when the men came. The men made the adjustmentment for their being a little late with no charge to me. We very much appreciated their help with our move and I would highly recommended them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
