Rachel is an awesome teacher! She is very thorough and well rounded with her teaching. She also used several different books as well as different composers to learn from. I also love group lessons and playing for old folks homes. This has been the best experience in private lessons that I have ever had. Something Rachel could work on is maybe not going over on lessons...oh wait! I appreciate that because she never wraps up a lesson until Inunderstand the concept fully! She's great!

I grew up classically studying and performing the violin with Callen since we were 4 years old. We were taught well, and we were taught HOW to teach. Callen devotes a lot of her time and passion into her teaching. She was trained very well and has been trained in how to be a very effective teacher. She knows what it takes.

I really love working with Dr. Starr. I have never walked out of his class without learning something new. One thing I really appreciate is that he takes the time to explain the violin/viola method he teaches. I gain a deeper understanding of technique once I know why. I have had many "Oh, that makes sense" moments. Another thing that makes class fun is that his personality is very buoyant, because he is very jovial yet earnest. He has never lost his frame of mind, considering I am a teenager. He always looks for my full effort and expects the best from me, which is something that has helped me personally. I took practicing lightly before I learned how to practice effectively. I highly recommend him to anyone who is thinking to take violin/viola lessons.

My five year old daughter began violin lessons with Sarah four months ago and I have been thrilled with the progress she has made in such a short period of time. Sarah is wonderful to work with. She is kind, positive, fun, encouraging, and knowledgable ... all of the qualities necessary for a successful and positive learning experience. I'm happy that my daughter's introduction to music lessons has been a great one, and I'm excited to see how far she goes with it!

About

I have been playing the violin for 20 years. Beginning at age 5, I studied private lessons with a variety of accomplished violinists including Richard Ferguson, Diane (Worley) Austin, Ted Ashton, Jean Tweet, and received private instruction from Julliard graduate Eric Grossman while attending a young adult strings camp. I received a music scholarship from BYU-Idaho my first year and was accepted into their Music Performance program, where I participated in music theory class, private lessons, master classes, chamber music quartets, and performed in the Symphony Orchestra (directed by Robert Tueller). I stayed involved in music by performing regularly with the Rexburg Tabernacle Community Orchestra (directed by LaMar Barrus and Kevin Call), teaching private violin lessons, continuing to take private lessons with Richard Ferguson, and performing on several occasions in local and state level pageants.
