We were very happy with the service+price combination of Nova Movers and packers. It was very easy to schedule with them in short notice. Workers were very hard working and always had a smile on their faces even though they had a 12 hour stretch of moving heavy furniture. Amine Fettar was also very nice and courteous and responded quickly when we needed additional space and help to move. The only recommendations that I would have is to give a good estimate of the items you intend to move. The initial plan was for them to send one truck with two men and it ended up being two trucks with 4 men as the space and time it would need to move was not well estimated. Although we ended up paying more than we expected for the additional service, we received a very good overall price from Nova Movers. I will definitely keep them in mind in the future and recommend them to others.

I recommend NK Movers, after being cancelled on by another one here on Thumbtack, they showed me professionalism by sending me a contract and calling me every step of the way. We both had some issues with timing but we were able to work together and keep each other informed. In light of my building manager being irresponsible and insensitive, they kept their cool, and helped me remain stress-free, i feel that they cared about making this move as great as possible. Will definitely recommend!

Like most people when it gets to be the end of a move-out month, things get stressful and worries mount about being able to get "all that furniture" moved in time. I was under such stress for the past two weeks...UNTIL TODAY when Po's Moving pulled up. It was not just a godd experience, it was phenomenal! I was simply aamzed at how safely, securely, and most importantly QUICKLY they emptied out my seemingly insurmountable amount of apartment furnishings and transproted them to their destination. Seriously, I don't rave about service these days as usually there's nothing to rave about. Po and his crew however? Well and truly OUTSTANDING. Great personalities (singing while they worked LOL), obviously skilled at their trade, well dressed in uniforms, etc. An absolutely perfect moving experience. Now having said all that, I want to STRESS the thing we all stress the MOST about if we are here seeking movers...the ridiculously high costs. I had no less than 11 movers answer my calls for aid here and Po's beat them HARSHLY on price! I still can't believe it was as cheap as it was for all the work they did and the traveling to my location and all. YOU WILL NOT GET A BETTER PRICE FROM ANYONE on some cases, Po's was over $250 LESS than other quote on here. So please, if you are intensely stressed about your move, and you have a deadline lease-wise, USE PO'S MOVING! I am sitting here writing this with such a sense of relief that they somehow did SO MUCH in such little time! WAY TO GO PO'S A+++++ and 6 STARS if I could!

Available movers were wonderfuli! We had a job that needed next day help and they were able to accommodate us! They were very friendly, helpful and offered us a great price! The 2 men who came to pack up were very professional and knowledgeable. They followed through with phone calls , prep work, and we knew what to expect! They then followed through when the packers were done to see if we were satisfied !we absolutely were!

My two movers were Dewayne and Antoine! They showed up on time and OMG! Very professional and quick. I offered water because those guys really worked hard and steady. When they arrived to my house, I gave them a walk through and told them what all needed to be moved and they just got right to it! I will hire them again. I promise you can’t go wrong. Just be sure you give them the accurate size and info for the job you need done. I probably could have used one more mover to have them finish up in 2 hours instead of 3, but I’m sure it would have cost me more money to have 3 movers! Anyway, I’m super satisfied!!!! THANK YOU DEWAYNE AND ANTOINE ❤️

Yesterday, our movers (another company) cancelled on us around 10am the day we were scheduled to move. We were panicking - we hadn't rented a truck or looked elsewhere at all, as we had the company booked 6 weeks on advance. Thankfully, Strongmove was able to book a same day move with us. Their guys were super fast, really nice, and we would definitely recommend them to anyone moving!

John was great. Extremely communicative pre-move. I didn’t know the first thing about what to move first but John helpfully took charge and was able to get all my stuff moved in no time. The movers stayed a bit longer than their allotted time because my bed was very difficult to reassemble, which they did patiently. I’ll definitely recommend metropolitan movers to friends and family looking to hire movers.

I had an AMAZING experience with My Movers! The movers were punctual, knowledgeable and super friendly. Everything was "I got it." and "Don't worry about it." which really put my mind at ease. They were careful with my belongings and wrapped my furniture and electronics. They know how to pack a truck efficiently and they packed my storage unit like professionals utilizing every square inch. I thought I was going to run out of space but they made it work with no problem! All I had to do was get out of their way! :) I will definitely be using this company again!!

We moved 120 miles. While we packed and moved most of our own small items because of earlier horror-filled moves, this move was practically perfect. We had them move all our furniture. Packers came and boxed up mirrors and pictures, and anything we'd missed. The loading crew arrived early, wrapped everything in blankets and large rubber bands, then wrapped everything in plastic wrap. How could anything have gotten hurt? What surprised us was the happiness of the employees. They worked long days. Lifted extremely heavy pieces. And their laughter rolled through our house like thunder as they packed. Our unloading went just as well. Just as cheerfully. They even worried that I was happy with the placement of my furniture! My opinion of Mover Dudes is that management must do an extremely good job, because the trickle-down effect was happy employees. We'd hire Mover Dudes again in a heartbeat, and recommend them whole-heartedly. We don't know how to rate them on price. We didn't interview anyone else. For the work they did and the large crews they sent, we felt the price was reasonable.

I was so impressed with Iron Jaw Movers when they moved me. All of my belongings were taken care of and arrived in perfect condition. They were very helpful setting up my furniture exactly where I wanted it and were very patient when I changed my mind several times and the guys offered suggestions that were very helpful. They even put my bed and dresser together for me - which would have taken me forever. Highly recommend them!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

        • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
        • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
        • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
        • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
        • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
