  • Katie Hall Ertsey

Hello, My name is Katie and I would like to offer piano lessons. Let me start by introducing myself and my piano background. I am 22 years old and I grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. I attended Northside Christian School for 15 years (preschool- 12th grade). At NCS, I took piano lessons for twelve years and voice lessons for seven years. After graduating high school, I joined the US Army. I was in the army for three years, and ended up getting out, due to having a baby. I am currently in college for my BS in OSH/Environmental Science. I am not a concert pianist with magnificent pieces to play, I can play a number of popular classical pieces. I have composed quite a few songs myself, and a few classical pieces from movies such as Claire de Lune in the movie Twilight, some pieces from the movie Legends of the Fall, and some pieces from the movie Maria Antoinette, and a few more. Playing piano is more of a fun hobby for me. Obviously, the economy has hit everyone pretty hard, and I have been racking my brain for ways to make extra cash on the side. Being a full time student and a full time single mom of a nineteen-month-old is quite challenging, financially. I am fully capable of teaching the basics of piano playing and a little bit extra. I can teach the names of the keys on the key board, the circle of fifths, all scales, how to read music, how to play left and right hand together, how to read key signatures, and the piano lingo, which is in Italian. All I require is that the student has good access to a piano, because practice makes perfect. I have a full key board at my apartment, with weight keys, so it feels and sounds just like a baby grand. My piano will be used for lessons, but the student must be able to practice on his/her own time, weekly or daily. If the student has lesson books already, then that is a plus, but I have beginner and intermediate lesson books that I can give lessons from. I would also be able to help a student that may had taken piano lessons in the past, but stopped for awhile, and now wants to refresh their skills, or if you have a song that you would like to learn, but have trouble reading the music, I can help there too as well (basic knowledge of a piano is required for this though). I would prefer to teach children between the ages of 3-12, because it is harder to teach an adult how to play. If you are older than 13 years old, I will most certainly do my best to teach you how to play; however, it will take a bit more focus, determination, and practice from the adult to learn. I live in Tacoma, University place (off of exit 130 on I-5, off of Lakewood Blvd). I would be free to give lessons any time on Saturday before noon, anytime Sunday after 12 noon, any time on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 12 on Mondays, and 11 a.m. to 12 on Wednesdays. I will be charging 10 dollars for a 30-minute lesson, or 20 dollars for a one-hour lesson. The student should take at least one lesson a week. If you would like to pay for a one-hour lesson, but split the hour into two 30-minute lessons on different days, that is just fine. You may either pay per lesson, weekly, or monthly. I accept money order or cash only (sorry no personal checks), and the lessons need to be paid up front. There is no type of time contract for lessons. You may start and stop whenever you want. If you pay weekly or monthly, you will have lesson units that will never expire; for instance, if you buy six 30-minute lessons at one time, but only use four lessons in one month, those two extra lesson units may roll over to the next month. Also, if you pay for a package of lessons up front, and don't end up using all of them, and wish to stop taking lessons, a refund of the unused lessons are available. Once a lesson has been completed, the money is non-refundable. Also, if interested in lessons, I would like to meet you in a public place for lunch or coffee, before inviting you over for lessons at my house. I'm sorry if this is an inconvenience, but these days, you never know who people are. If the student will be a child under the age of 8 years old, the parent or parents must accompany the child to the introduction meeting and all lessons. Student over 8 years old, may be dropped off for lessons, only at the parents discretion. Parents of children of any age are more than welcome to stay for the lesson. Thank you, Katie Hall

More than just instruction during lesson time, we have a blog with regular articles about music, practice, community, and service to others through music to keep you and/or your children inspired and thinking about the big picture. We do private lessons in voice, piano, or songwriting. Jenna is available for piano lessons in Olympia now, but spaces are limited and fill up fast, so sign up now, secure your time slot and get on the list. She is also available for voice lessons. Jenna began teaching privately nearly 15 years ago after graduating from Berklee College of Music. She has worked with vocalists, piano players, and singer songwriters of all ages. Jenna teaches what you want to know in a relatable and easy to understand way. If you want technical skills and preparation, Jenna can help you. She knows what is required of vocalists for entrance into premier music opportunities. She has extensive experience and education in a variety of styles, from pop to jazz, folk, blues and musical theater. Jenna is also active with the National Federation of Music Clubs. Her students will have the opportunity, if they choose, to sharpen their skills through healthy competition on piano or voice. If you are looking for private lessons with someone you can count on for personalized, professional, and fun learning, then give Jenna a call. We do private lessons in trumpet, trombone, saxophone, improvisation, or composition. Sean-David began teaching privately nearly 15 years ago after graduating from Berklee College of Music. He has worked with trumpet players, piano players, flute players (and more), and teaches what you want to know in a relatable and easy to understand way. As a musician, SD spent years struggling with what it meant to want his own musical voice (and not to sound like someone else). If you are seeking to find your individual voice on trumpet, in composition, on your instrument, or in improvisation, SD would love to help you find it. If you want technical skills and preparation, SD can help you. Sean-David knows what is required of musicians for entrance into premier music opportunities. He has exceeded the necessary standards of entrance to the US Army Bands, Berklee College of Music, and even musical theater positions. SD has a passion for music theory and loves finding ways to make theory, chord scales, and song form easier to understand. If that sort of thing has always boggled or frustrated you, but you know it is important, and you want to learn, give SD a call.

  • Imagine Music

I've been musically inclined since the young age of 2. I have a complete music room equipped with instruments, baby grand, and a two-staff white board for learning that I teach from. I will meet and beat any competitor's 30-minute lesson rate if my rate is not already the lowest around. I prefer beginners age 6 to 14, but I negotiate on age. For advanced music theory, I will teach any age. Let me formally introduce myself to you to show you my qualifications. I'm Laurie Walsh, and I have been singing multi-part music for 14 years and playing violin for 13 years, cello for 8 years, flute/piccolo for 5 years, and piano for 9 years, and I am currently picking up the harp. I have traveled the country competing on my violin and with my voice. I was asked personally to play at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and for the Emperor of China in 2006. I act and sing professionally for my college, and I have received many casting calls for leading female parts in Broadway musicals, such as Wicked, Cirque Du Soile, Side Show, Once Upon a Mattress, Glee, and many more. For my young age, I have accomplished a lot, and I plan to teach music for the rest of my life not only at home as my hobby, but also as a university teacher, along with continuing my acting career on center stage. I can promise you that your child will begin to read music clearly within the first 4 weeks that they are enrolled with me. Teaching music is a God given talent I have received, and I would love nothing more than to share it with your children, so they can experience it, too. Parents are welcome to stay with the child during the lesson; there is also the Lakewood town center right down the road if you prefer your child to be independent. I offer the following: - Private 30-minute lesson is $20 per child. - Group (2-5) 30-minute lesson is $15 per child. - Private 60-minute lesson is $30 per child. - Group (2-5) 60-minute lesson is $25 per child. Discount information is found below. I offer lessons on the following: - Violin - Cello - Piano - Voice - Flute - Piccolo - Music theory - Advanced music theory I will be offering harp lessons once I have learned my way thoroughly around the harp. I also offer a 10% discount on the price of lesson if paid at least four lessons in advance. Unlike most private teachers, I incorporate music theory into the lesson free of charge. Music theory teaches a child about the music staff and the notes that fall on it, and I feel that learning the basic concepts of music theory will be the foundation on great musical success for them. Please visit my website for further details on my services. If you would like to know my schedule, click the calendar tab. I have marked off the slots that are already taken by other students. All contact information is listed on the 'Contact Me' tab of my website.
