I LOVE taking piano lessons with Aleta Barber. She is a natural teacher. Although I have had years of music in elementary and high school, as well as private lessons as an adult, she has introduced me to ways of learning I've never been exposed to. I feel so fortunate to be working with her.

About

Piano Lessons-I am super easy to work with. Most teachers can teach you how to read music. I go beyond that. Yes I want you to know how to read and know the fundamentals, but I also want you to know how music works. There are really few people that are going to just play classical. Most students want to know other styles. So we introduce you to chords and scales and show you how to apply them into the music, or lead sheet. Essentially sort of approaching music backwards. We see the chords and the melody, and then we talk about the different approaches or methods to make the music sound the way we'd like it to sound. I give you a more of an "everyday" approach to music, rather than just learn how to read music. Piano Lessons-I love to see growth and happiness in the students. It's great to see a student go from not knowing anything, to being able to start picking up music that they want to play and being able to do it! Performing-I love people coming up and saying thank you to me or my group. There's a satisfaction knowing that not only did we have fun playing music together, but it made a difference to the people attending the event as well.

My experience with music spans over 30 years with teaching, performing, directing, arranging, and composing. My performances range from local musicians to Grammy winning musicians. I am one of the few musicians that have perfect pitch (Only 20% of musicians worldwide have this ability). I always enjoy helping people reach their music goals, and I am confident that I can help you reach yours! Interacting with people is the best part of my job. I have the best job in the world doing what I enjoy and sharing it with people!

About

I teach weekly lessons in voice, piano, saxophone, clarinet and trombone to all levels and ages, tailoring each lesson to the needs and abilities of the individual, with breaks that generally follow the school calendar and recital opportunities twice each year. I pride myself in offering a caring and supportive environment and helping my students understand what makes practice perfect. I am currently accepting new students for fall lessons. Learn the best technique! Improve your skill and understand music from the inside out! Prepare for an upcoming performance! Develop a discerning ear! Learn from a certified music teacher! Just off Carpenter Road in Lacey, WA! Lessons are provided in my studio. Students are offered recital and performance opportunities each year, so they have a chance to share their new-found skills with family and friends. Performing for a live audience enhances students' excitement and joy and gives them a goal to practice for. I always strive to balance high-quality education with fun! Music has fascinated me as far back as I can remember. I have been involved in music since grade school. I enjoy a wide variety of music styles and have studied many instruments as well as music theory, so it is natural for me to enjoy music and music-making, but my real passion is teaching music to students one-on-one! It's so much fun to see them grow as musicians and really enjoy it from the inside out! Watching them work hard and then truly succeed is one of the most rewarding experiences there is!

About

Hello, I am able to teach piano to groups and individuals of many different personalities and a wide age range. I also teach uniquely designed and age appropriate Pre-School Piano Lessons for the beginner aged 3-4 years of age using a variety of activities in the lesson, including piano playing, rhythm tapping, listening and discerning musical patterns and pitches, and simple composing. I have seen the benefits of starting a child as young as 3 years old using coloured notes and fun characters to aid in reading music, with those children gaining an enthusiasm for music and piano playing that lasts for years to come, as they continue to progress. I will show students the most efficient way to practice and use their hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders in a relaxed manner. I also recognize the importance of integrating theory knowledge and technical work with the repertoire learnt so that the student understands the music better, and can perform it more expressively and easily. I have helped many students achieve wonderful results in both written and practical exams, ranging from the Preliminary Grade up to the Licentiate Diploma level. Another unique aspect of my studio is the computer lab, in which the students complete assignments from the teacher, helps to reinforce various concepts introduced in the piano lesson, and adds more fun to the learning process. Using software such as Music Ace Maestro, Children's Music Journey, Piano Suite Premier, Alfred's Interactive Musician, Auralia and Musition, students enjoy playing games that build music reading ability, train their ear, revise music theory information, and encourage creativity in composition. I love music of all styles, whether it is classical, jazz or contemporary, and enjoys teaching any student who is eager to learn and improve their skills. I am friendly, patient, and committed, and who care about the progress of each of my students. One of my greatest joys in work is seeing the smile on a student's face when they finally master a piece, finish a book or pass an exam with flying colours. Li-San also finds satisfaction in correcting or improving piano technique, re-sparking interest in piano playing, and strengthening the weak areas of a student's musicianship, as she has had experience teaching students who have transferred from other teachers due to problems or lack of interest in music with a previous teacher.
